- Ugly Dave Gray was born on December 26, 1933 in Manchester, England, UK. He is an actor, known for Gettin' Square (2003), The Young Doctors (1976) and The Ernie Sigley Show (1974).
- His unique stage name came from his wife, who joked that her husband was so ugly, he made her look attractive.
- [on asking to leave The Young Doctors (1976) to work on Blankety Blanks (1977)] I had to go to Crawfords [sic] and hand in my notice. They were furious because they'd built up my part. I suggested my character leave town, to leave the door open. But I had a heart attack behind the bar and died! It was their way of telling me 'You're never coming back!'
- [on co-star Graham Kennedy] He was gay and had his boyfriend but when it came to work we were inseparable. Graham was very difficult to get along with. We'd been doing Blankety Blanks about 3 months, and one night Graham had a siphon of soda water. He walked around the panel and pointed it at me. And I said, 'You wouldn't dare' and he said 'Wouldn't I?' I was getting fed up. There had been a few situations where he was taking the piss out of me and I was getting fed up. So the following week we went out for dinner and I didn't say a word until we'd finished dinner, sipping on a red wine, and I said, 'I realise Blankety Blanks has been fantastic for my name, I couldn't have had a better shop window. But I'm not there for you to take the piss out of me. And I realise what I'm saying might cost me my job, but I don't care. You love sending people up, but don't do that to me on national television. If you ever do it again I'll walk off the set.' He said, 'Dave I wouldn't upset you for the world. You are my backstop. When I'm stuck for anything to do, I know I can throw to you. I rely on you so much.' I don't think anybody had ever spoken to Graham like that. From that day, we got on like you wouldn't believe.
