British actor Dominic West has lent his voice to a provocative new film from Save the Children, highlighting the role of the UK Government in fuelling the devastating war in Yemen by approving arms sales to Saudi Arabia and other states fighting there.
The 60-second film, Made in Britain, is shot in the style of a glamourous high street advertising campaign, set to the rising score of Elgar’s Nimrod.
Smooth, beautifully lit shots of a racing green shape emerge in silhouette from the darkness.
Intricate details of a highly engineered metal shape then gradually come into view as Dominic West begins narrating the first few lines of a commanding, patriotic poem.
Sleek and fast, unstoppable machine.
Symbol of our engineering might.
Understated, painted racing green,
A micron-perfect casing milled in bright metal.
Export of our island kingdom,
Power, wrapped in burnished aluminium.
The final few seconds of the film...

Blac Chyna is back, appearing in a new Nsfw music video … but is she sending a message to Rob Kardashian?
The 29-year-old mother of two makes a cameo in rapper Belly’s explicit video for “P.O.P (Power of Pu**y)" wearing lingerie. She stares directly at the camera as the rapper says, ”She took you for everything, you let her do it again.”
As previously reported, Kardashian, 30, shared multiple nude photos of her on his social media accounts last month and accused her of cheating and using him for money, jewelry and plastic surgery. The model was granted a temporary restraining order against him on July 10.

Director Robin Campillo didn’t have to do any research for his new film, the Cannes competition entry 120 Beats Per Minute, which focuses on the impassioned AIDS activists within the Paris chapter of the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power (Act Up) in the early 1990s.
“I actually lived through this time,” he said today at the official press conference for the film, following its first press screening this morning. “I was an Act Up militant in the ‘90s,” he said, and he witnessed the ravages of AIDS first-hand, recalling, “I’ve dressed up a boyfriend on his death,” a...

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film and TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Monday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best film in theaters right now?”, can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: Inspired by Baby Groot’s “Mr. Blue Sky” dance sequence at the beginning of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” what movie has the best opening credits sequence?
April Wolfe (@awolfeful), La Weekly
Hands down, it’s R.W. Fassbinder’s “The Marriage of Maria Braun.” I watch the opening sequence at least three times a year and show it to every filmmaker I can. I love any film that begins with a bang, and this one does quite literally: We open up on an explosion that rips out a hunk of brick wall, exposing a German couple in the middle of a rushed marriage ceremony.

When a story has all the right elements to draw an audience in – political intrigue, emotional drama, philandering government officials – then it’s only a matter of time before it finds its way onto a screen of some size, somewhere. Such is the hope of producers Ron Senkowski and Michael De Luca, who have just acquired the book Collateral Damage: Petraeus, Power, Politics And The Abuse Of Privacy, written by Jill Kelley.
Jill Kelley is an American socialite and Honorary Ambassador to the U.S. Central Command Coalition whose stalking complaint to the FBI in 2012 sparked a controversy that toppled the CIA Director, General David Petraeus. More than just a political scandal, however, the episode highlighted the issue of privacy with regard to government surveillance – as Jill Kelley explained to Deadline.

When The Shield exploded into WWE in late 2012, they made an impact not seen for years. Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns made up the three hungry rookies from Nxt who proceeded to run roughshod over the entire locker room, from John Cena and Ryback all the way to The Rock and The Undertaker.
Fast forward to 2014, and the powers that be seem firmly committed to the push of Roman Reigns. Despite being the most inexperienced of the three, in the last four months he has tied the all time record for Survivor Series eliminations and broken the record for Royal Rumble eliminations set by Kane in 2001. He’s also the member most over with the crowd by miles, and his split from the group is expected either in time for Wrestlemania 30 or very shortly after. Los Angeles — The Oscar-nominated features "5 Broken Cameras" and "How to Survive a Plague" represent documentaries in the truest, purest form of the word: They capture a spark, a moment in history, and they make us feel as if we were there, too.
Both films were shot by regular people who happened to be witnessing an uprising. They're by amateur photographers who had the foresight to record everything – long before such a practice became the norm with the advent of the iPhone and YouTube – from the mundane moments of their daily lives to scenes of violence, upheaval, death and eventually some sort of victory.
They're very different films from very different directors on very different topics. "5 Broken Cameras" is a collaboration between Palestinian farmer Emad Burnat and Israeli director Guy Davidi featuring years of footage Burnat shot in his occupied village of Bil'in, a place that became a sort of symbol for nonviolent resistance.

David France has been a top investigative reporter for decades, covering everything from the sex-abuse scandal in the Catholic Church to the struggles of war veterans for the likes of Newsweek and New York magazine. But at age 53 he embarked on a second career as a first-time filmmaker. The film chronicles the birth and growth of AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power and...

And that’s what he’s telling as many Academy members as possible between now and February 24, when he’ll find out if How to Survive a Plague wins the Oscar for best documentary.

AIDS activist Spencer Cox, a longtime member of the AIDS community, has died. He was 44.
It was confirmed to the New York Times by his brother Nick that Cox had passed away from AIDS-related causes at the Allen Hospital in New York City. Mark Harrington, the executive director of a group Cox helped form called Treatment Action Group, says that Cox had struggled with an addiction to methamphetamines and stopped taking his AIDS medication months ago.
"He saved the lives of millions, but he couldn't save his own," Harrington says.
Born in Atlanta in 1968, Cox moved to New York City after studying at Bennington College in Vermont for three years. It was after he moved to the Big Apple that he discovered he had HIV. In 1989, he had joined the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power, also known as Act Up, and then went on to help form Tag in 1992.

This movie is an excellent, engrossing, and necessary document to an important period of history.
Living in New York City in the late 1980s and early 1990s, I was familiar with Act-up. At least I thought I was.
Act-up is the acronym for the Aids Coalition To Unleash Power, an organization founded by gay activists to pressure the powers that be to help them fight the deadly disease ravaging their community. Their accomplishments have benefited every citizen of the United States, gay and straight, and they deserve our recognition and gratitude.
After watching this movie, I felt old and sad. Old because I remember how frightening AIDS was. I remember learning of the deaths of artists I had just discovered, like the fashion designer Patrick Kelly and disco diva Sylvester. I remember exactly where I was when I heard Freddie Mercury had died. Having dated some “confused” guys,...

Bollywood actor Imran Khan Friday vowed to file a Pil against the Maharashtra government.s decision to scale up the minimum age for liquor consumption to 25 years, calling it .illogical.. .I am in conversation with my lawyers. I hold an Overseas Citizen of India (Oci) card, so I.m not eligible to file a Pil (Public Interest Litigation). It will be filed on my behalf,. Imran told reporters here. .I.m taking this step because I.m troubled by a growing perception that young people need to be managed, that they need to be handled. People feel we are incapable of making rational, informed decisions for ourselves. .As members of a democratic society it is our right and sometimes our duty to stand up and ask whether our government is doing the right thing. .The decision by the government to raise the legal drinking age from 21 to 25 is illogical and counter productive.

Her anti-gay platform has alienated parts of her family. A mentor she described as a "great influence" has a history of addresses to white supremacists. A book she collaborated on advocates theocracy. Rep. Michele Bachmann's impressive performance at Monday's debate has catapulted her near the front of the Gop pack, but the radical roots of her ideology remain poorly understood. Glue a wig to your head and put Eminem on speed dial because it's Elton John week on "American Idol X: Ballads Or Bust."
The Top 11 returned to primetime because Casey Abrams was saved last week. ("Saved" in the "Idol" sense, mind you. Lord knows if he's accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.) It wasn't covered too thoroughly by the major news outlets, but as Pitchfork enthusiastically points out, Congress passed the Local Community Radio Act this weekend. The hard fought legislation vastly opens up the radio spectrum to independent stations and diverse voices.
The bill is a victory for progressives and independents who seek to add their voices to the airwaves, currently dominated by right wing personalities with varying degrees of mental stability. The bipartisan legislation passed through the House, and then the Senate with the help of Democrat Maria Cantwell and Republican John McCain. They put to rest a decade long battle against the entrenched National Association of Broadcasters lobby which fought to keep the likes of Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh kings of the airwaves, and keep the bill from coming to the floor.

Tonight, we got the first part to what could be the explosive week we were supposed have had last week. I feel optimistic about the good times ahead, how about you?
It is Day 48 and we rewind back to the eviction ceremony when Matt dropped the bombshell of the Diamond Power of Veto. Brendon is hella pissed. Britney and Ragan are ecstatic. Enzo and Hayden are fearing for their lives. Why? Well apparently, the two Brigade members had given Matt his walking papers earlier that day and were ready for him to leave, which could put a sour taste in the once ‘dominate’ Brigade alliance. Matt knows this, Hayden and Enzo know this, but Matt doesn’t retaliate. Instead, he chooses to make them squirm.
Fast forward to the events after the Hoh competition, Ragan and Britney celebrate the win, while Brendon sulks and Enzo tries to do damage control with Matt.

In today’s world, it is all to common for Hollywood to take an outdated movie and make a modern day remake, but few dare to come up with something new and put it into an outdated movie!
Don’t quite follow me? That’s understandable. I’m talking about writer/director Christopher R. Mihm and his great films, produced in the last few years, which are shot as a monochromatic tribute to the B-grade, drive-in movies of the 1950s. Mihm has come out with a movie a year starting almost four years ago with The Monster of Phantom Lake.
The Monster of Phantom Lake, Mihm’s first film, was released in March of 2006 to make its mark on the world. Black and white and clocking in at 97 minutes long, the film is a true homage film, immersing the viewer into the blaring din of clichés as rubber monster suits...

Away We Go - Giveaway
I appreciate this film as a quiet examination into the lives of two people who are surrounded by chaos.
What’s most fascinating about Away We Go is that Sam Mendes went from Revolutionary Road to this. From a depressing portrait on suburban life to a picture that dabbles in a little drama and a little comedy the movie works because of co-writers Dave Eggers (A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius and the upcoming film Where The Wild Things Are) and his wife Vendela Vida.

Ask around to homeowners who have looked into capturing solar energy on their roof, and they will likely tell you there are several problems with the standard solar panel. The cost to install can be prohibitive, making it far from a smart investment for many houses. The solar panels are bulky and heavy--it's basically a glass box suspended six inches above your roof. Plus most solar panels are made from materials like glass, silicon wafers and aluminum that are not always sustainable to produce or easy to recycle. And, to be honest--because this is your home we're talking about, and you do care--they're just so darn ugly.

Buzz Focus recently had the opportunity to sit down with "Tyson" documentary director James Toback. This is how he describes his new film, which makes its limited release this weekend, April 24th. James, who is a long time friend of Mike Tyson, answered a few questions for us about his film and about knowing the infamous former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. So where did the idea for this film come from? Did you approach Mike or did he approach you? I brought it up; basically the idea came from a scene filmed in one of my earlier movies, Black and White. (Tyson is) alone in the gym and Power comes up to him and says, “I got this guy who’s going to rat on me, ruin my life and get me locked up, what should I do?” Basically Mike says first, “if he’s going to hurt you, you gotta murder him.

Definitely my most anticipated movie of 2009, Niki Caro's The Vintner's Luck has all the makings of a winner! With an impressive cast led by Gaspard Ulliel, Jeremie Renier, Keisha Castle-Hughes and Vera Farmiga, it is the unforgettable tale of Sobran, a French winemaker, and his life-long relationship with an angel named Xas. - - - - - - Xas is played by one of today's most talented young actors, Gaspard Ulliel, while Jeremie Renier (The Child) will play the winemaker. Those who have read the book were absolutely thrilled when they heard that the French star had got the role. However, speculation remains as to whether Gaspard has adjusted physically to the role, as Xas is described in the book as incredibly masculine, a bit bulky even, with long, flowing hair at the back. I recently read a comment that raised a lot of issues: I think Gaspard obviously has the looks part down,...
