Anne Marie has been chronicling Judy Garland's career chronologically through musical numbers...
In 1957, a golden opportunity landed in Judy Garland's lap that looked, at first glance, like a lawsuit. In fact it was a lawsuit (and a counterlawsuit) concerning a contract she'd signed with CBS. Garland (on the advice of hubby Sidney Luft) had signed a $300,000 contract with CBS for three years of TV specials in 1955. However, only one special had ever aired. In 1957, Judy sued, which caused CBS to countersue. The result reads like something out of the rejected musical version of Adam's Rib: in 1961, Judy & CBS decided to put aside their differences (and lawsuits) to sign a new contract for two new specials. The first of these aired just a year later in 1962.
The Show: The Judy Garland Show (CBS, 1962)
The Songwriters: Lionel Rand (music), Ian Grant (lyrics)
The Cast: Judy Garland, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra,...

"Livin' on a Prayer" rocker Jon Bon Jovi appeared on "Katie" Friday, talking about his daughter Stephanie Bongiovi's heroin overdose in November. He describes finding out about the incident as "the worst phone call ever."
Stephanie was in her dorm room at Hamilton College in New York at the time. She and a friend, Ian Grant, were later charged with possession of a controlled substance, though the charges were eventually dropped. In New York, you cannot prosecute someone who overdoses on drugs, or the people that help them get medical care.
Jon says Stephanie is "doing great now," and thanks fans and supporters for their thoughts and prayers. He says he was surprised to find out how common that level of drug use was in the modern day, saying, "There is a lot of pressure on kids these days. There's access to things my generation didn't have." Luckily, Jon is...

Remember that one year (2001) when the list-happy AFI (American Film Institute) decided to compete with the Globes and the Oscars in year end prizes? No, that didn't last long. But there's another AFI, The Australian Film Institute, that has been around for a long time and is in no such danger of being a one-off. This year, they're all about the amazing family crime drama Animal Kingdom which they awarded with a record breaking 18 nominations. Sure, the film is in danger of being way overhyped for people who are coming to it late (which is just about everyone given the sorry state of international distribution for dramas of virtually any kind) but for those who can slough off the "omg" raves, I guarantee you'll think it at least an insinuating and well executed crime drama.
