Goyer Wants Magneto On The Back Burner

10 November 2009 3:56 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

I could write an essay on everything that was wrong with X-Men Origins: Wolverine. As a comic book film, it ranks somewhere between the never-meant-to-be-released Fantastic Four movie from 1994 and the straight-to-video Captain America movie from 1990. There was simply nothing there to enjoy. That opinion solidified, the entire time the Wolverine origin was being punted around, a Magneto back story was also in the works, but it now seems that it will be a few more years before we can facepalm while attending another X-Men related disaster. In an interview with MTV, writer David Goyer (who ranges from Batman Begins to Jumper) has backed recent statements by producer Lauren Shuler Donner, saying that Fox is a bit confused where to go with the franchise, and that the project should be placed on the back burner. Goyer also seemed to give the impression that he no longer cares much about the »

X-Men Origins: Magneto Screenwriter Agrees with Producer: Not Anytime Soon

10 November 2009 1:16 PM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Last month, X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner proclaimed that X-Men Origins: Magneto is the furthest X-Men movie from production, possibly getting made in "five years." Today Magento screenwriter David Goyer told MTV that he agrees with Shuler Donner.

I tend to agree with her. [Fox is] still trying to figure out what they want to do, whether or not they'll do a different X-Men movie next or another Wolverine movie next. If they want to make Magneto, that's awesome. In the meantime, I'm just going to move on with my other projects. Even taking FlashForward aside, I'm booked up for another year and a half. I have no complaints.

Despite the movie's production woes, that hasn't stopped fans from creating a concept trailer that uses footage from all three X-Men movies. Check out what they've dreamed up.

Exclusive: David Goyer's 'Magneto' Origins Story Is A Ways Off

10 November 2009 12:30 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

From Splash Page: Recent comments from "X-Men" producer Lauren Shuler Donner have cast some doubt on the future prospects of "X-Men Origins: Magneto," the David Goyer-penned origin story focusing on the mutant menace's early years.

Donner said that while Goyer's script is "brilliant," the chances of the movie actually making it to theaters are dwindling. Certainly, it's on the lowest rung of an "X-Men" ladder that already consists of a "Wolverine" sequel, a "Deadpool" solo movie and "X-Men: First Class."

Speaking with MTV News, Goyer's thoughts regarding the "Magneto" adaptation surprisingly mirrored Donner's own—in other words, the "Batman Begins" scribe believes that "Magneto" should be on the back-burner.

Goyer has doubts over Magneto, but see master of magnetism in two new trailers

10 November 2009 7:07 AM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Last Month, producer Lauren Shuler Donner indicated that the prequel X-Men Origins: Magneto was "at the back of the queue" of potential X-Men movies and said the film may not even get made.

David Goyer, who reworked Sheldon Turner's screenplay for the film and is set to direct, has spoken about the project to MTV and echoes Donner's views.

Goyer, who is also the showrunner of FlashForward, said: "I tend to agree with her.

"[Fox is] still trying to figure out what they want to do, whether or not they'll do a different X-Men movie next or another Wolverine movie next. If they want to make Magneto, that's awesome.

"In the meantime, I'm just going to move on with my other projects."

He added: "Even taking FlashForward aside, I'm booked up for another year and a half. I have no complaints."

Mendes Not Approached For Ghost Rider 2

10 November 2009 12:11 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Ghost Rider star Eva Mendes is doubtful she will return for a planned sequel to the 2007 comic book movie, because she's yet to be approached by filmmakers.

The Hollywood beauty portrayed Nicolas Cage's on-screen love interest Roxanne Simpson in the action film.

She had previously ruled out reprising her character for a second installment of Ghost Rider, insisting she would only ever consider the job if Cage was also on board for the project.

Mendes said, "I think it was a great experience, and I was so proud of it. It was fun... but I think it's done. But look, hey, if it's Nicolas Cage again - I'll do anything with him."

Screenwriter David Goyer recently confirmed he was working on a Ghost Rider follow-up - but Mendes knows nothing about a sequel.

She says, "I haven't heard anything about that." »

'Magneto' Film Dead, for Now

9 November 2009 9:35 PM, PST | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

Despite a brilliant script, an 'X-Men Origins: Magneto' movie may not see the light of day anytime soon. But you won’t hear David Goyer complaining.

The writer/director, who is currently attached to a number of superhero projects, including Ghost Rider 2, a possible third 'Batman' film, and 'Super Max' (which would revolve around Green Arrow), has enough work to keep him busy for quite some time.

"Even taking FlashForward aside," Goyer told MTV, referring to the weekly television he produces and occasionally writes and directs, "I’m booked up for another year and a half."

Lauren Shuler Donner, producer of the 'X-Men' movies, did not exactly give the Magneto film a vote of confidence last month. "I'm not sure that film is going to be made," Shuler said in an interview. "The studio has a wealth of potential stories, and they have »

FlashForward's executive producer David Goyer has revealed that several new characters will be introduced later this season. Speaking to MTV News, Goyer confirmed that the Somalian boy from episode three will be making a return as an adult. "We have already written that character as an adult," he said. "We're hoping to have a certain actor play him. We haven't nailed it down yet, but we're crossing our fingers." Michael Ealy will also be arriving in the role of Miles Fogel, who Goyer said will be a "new thorn in Detective Benford's side". (more) »

'FlashForward' actor discusses game-changing death

8 November 2009 1:31 PM, PST | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

The following article was originally posted on hyperMosaic.com by Sam McPherson. You can read the original article there.

In this week's episode, "The Gift," Agent Al Gough committed suicide in order to prevent his flashforward from coming true. While this event effectively ended his character, it also opened up a variety of possibilities for the other characters who hoped to escape the inevitability of their flashforwards. However, it also opens a myriad of questions — Is death the only escape? How much do these changes affect the future they saw?

Lee Thompson Young, who played Gough, spoke to Zap2It about his thoughts on the character's death, and what it meant for the future of the show.

"He basically changes the entire world because he's the first person to defy Fate," Young said in the interview, which can be read in full here. "He found a way to change the game. »

David Goyer Talks ‘Ghost Rider 2′

7 November 2009 11:00 AM, PST | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

Marvel has a long list of comic-to-film projects that didn’t pan out so well. Ghost Rider is one of them. That may be the most diplomatic way I’ve ever put that. Ordinarily anything having to do with Ghost Rider has elicited a rage in me that leaves me angry. . . Hulk angry. So why am I so calm this time?

Well, as we’ve already covered here at The Flickcast, Ghost Rider is getting a sequel which could have been as craptastic as the first film. However, the script for the new movie is from one of my favorite writers David Goyer (Batman Begins, FlashForward).  Recently, MTV caught up with Goyer and asked him about the Ghost Rider sequel:

“It’s not exactly a reboot,” said Goyer, “I hate to say it’s more realistic, because he’s got a flaming skull for a head, but it’s a »

New Characters Coming to 'FlashForward'

7 November 2009 10:28 AM, PST | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

The following article was originally posted on hyperMosaic.com by Sam McPherson. You can read the original article there.

If you haven’t already caught on to it, FlashForward is getting into a habit of playing its hand slowly, especially as far as cast goes. As opposed to many other serialized shows, where most of the main characters were introduced in the first episodes, FlashForward means to add to its main cast gradually. We’ve already seen this in the introduction of characters like Gabrielle Union’s Zoey and Dominic Monaghan’s Simon, and we should be seeing it in the future, according to showrunner David Goyer.

“We’re introducing quite a few new characters down the line,” Goyer told MTV. Among those characters is the Japanesse woman from Bryce’s vision. “…her name is Keiko,” Goyer revealed, though he was deliberately tight-lipped about any more details, instead simply telling »

New Characters, Actors on the Way to FlashForward

6 November 2009 1:16 PM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

On this week's episode of FlashForward, viewers bid farewell to Al and said hello Blue Hand associate Jeff Slingerland (Callum Keith Rennie).

The latter won't be the final new character introduced on the series, not by a long shot, says creator David S. Goyer. He told MTV:

"We're introducing quite a few new characters down the line. We have already written [the Somalian boy from episode three] as an adult. We're hoping to have a certain actor play him. We haven't nailed it down yet, but we're crossing our fingers."

Goyer also hinted that Michael K. Williams (Omar from The Wire) would take on that adult role, which would be incredible.

Then there's Miles Fogel a new addition to be played by Michael Ealy.

"He effectively becomes a series regular with [episode ten]," Goyer said of Fogel.

Goyer also confirmed that Slingerland would turn up a couple more times this season; and that episode nine will take Bryce »

Exclusive: David Goyer Is Moving Forward With Green Arrow Spin-Off 'Super Max'

6 November 2009 11:30 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

From Splash Page: Earlier in the year, David Goyer provided a much-needed update on "Super Max"—the Green Arrow-centric movie that would feature DC's Emerald Archer wrongfully imprisoned in a maximum security jail for supervillains—by saying that a new writer would be coming aboard the project.

Shortly thereafter, however, a potential game-changer came in the form of "Supermax," an almost identically titled horror project with a very similar premise to Goyer's planned film. Given that news, we recently explained why "Super Max" should be a priority for the newly formed DC Entertainment.

But according to Goyer, the arrival of "Supermax" isn't necessarily the end for Oliver Queen's prison sentence.

Exclusive: David Goyer Teases Future 'FlashForward' Characters

Last night's episode of "FlashForward" took one character off the board while introducing another in the form of Blue Hand associate Jeff Slingerland, played by Callum Keith Rennie of "Battlestar Galactica" fame. It's a tradition that fans of the ABC series should get used to, as executive producer and showrunner David Goyer told MTV News that there are plenty of new characters waiting in the wings as the episodes progress.

'FlashForward' Episode 1.07: 'The Gift'

5 November 2009 8:46 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Episode Title: "The Gift"

Written By: Lisa Zwerline & Ian Goldberg

Synopsis: The specific intentions of the Blue Hand become clearer as agents Mark Benford (Joseph Fiennes), Demetri Noh (John Cho) and Al Gough (Lee Thompson Young) dig deep into the organization's seedy underbelly. But that's not the only difficulty that Noh and Gough have to contend with, as each agent deals with the life-or-death implications of their experiences during the blackout.

Changing The Game: Well, how about that? Despite having a very vivid flash-forward — and a shared one, at that — Agent Al Gough was able to commit suicide, meaning that the deaths of those without flash-forwards isn't quite as set in stone as we were initially led to believe. How is this going to effect Demetri's attitude going forward? How does it possibly derail the Mosaic Investigation? The only thing we can say with any degree of certainty is that the flash-forwards aren't inevitable scenarios. »

Ghost Rider 2 'aiming for Casino Royale feel'

5 November 2009 6:17 PM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Batman scribe and FlashForward showrunner David Goyer recently revealed that Sony studio chiefs were dusting off a Ghost Rider screenplay he wrote nine years ago to make it into a film.

The first Ghost Rider movie in 2007, with Nicolas Cage as a biker who sells his soul to the devil and is transformed into a supernatural bounty hunter, was indeed hellish.

But, nonetheless, it managed to make a reasonable $238million globally (on a budget of $120million) and a further $103million from DVD sales in the USA alone.

Goyer's script will be slightly toned down from its R rating to get a PG-13 classification.

He has now spoken a little more about the project, telling MTV: "It's not exactly a reboot. I hate to say it's more realistic, because he's got a flaming skull for a head, but it's a bit more stripped down and darker. It's definitely changing tone.

David Goyer Explains Marc Guggenheim's Exit From 'FlashForward' TV Series

5 November 2009 3:41 PM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

From Movies Blog: A few weeks back, Marc Guggenheim departed his role as co-showrunner of "FlashForward," leaving the job solely to co-creator David Goyer. The move came as a surprise to many, considering the critical approval that the show has received. Goyer himself touts tonight's episode as the best installment yet. Sure there are challenges, but that is true of every show on television.

Many have wondered how Guggenheim's exit might effect the upcoming slate of episodes. Goyer has a great background in film and TV; his writing on Chris Nolan's "Batman" films revived the ailing franchise and he executive produced the underrated TV series "Threshold." "FlashForward" is his biggest TV project yet, but he brings a lot of experience to the table and will be fine without Guggenheim.

Besides, Goyer told MTV in a recent interview that the departure was hardly a surprise—indeed, it was always part of the plan. »

Secret Identity: Who Should Play Catwoman In 'Batman 3'?

5 November 2009 1:02 PM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

In all likelihood, we're still quite a ways off from any real news regarding a third "Batman" movie from director Christopher Nolan—if he's even returning to the franchise, that is—but that's not stopping us from wondering which Dark Knight villain we should see in the inevitable sequel.

There's no shortage of rogues to choose from, but the one I think is an absolute necessity is Catwoman. Given the state of Bruce Wayne's life after the events of "The Dark Knight," this feels like the perfect time to introduce Selina Kyle—the woman who could either help mend Bruce's fences, or bring all of the walls tumbling down.

If Nolan, David Goyer and the other folks at DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. decide to go the Catwoman route, I think that these five actresses would be great for the role.
