The Beverly Hills Temple of the Arts at the Saban Theatre, the largest arts and entertainment synagogue in the U.S., is offering complimentary seating to striking members of the Writers Guild and SAG-AFTRA and their immediate families for its High Holy Day Services on Rosh Hashanah (September 15 and 16) and Yom Kippur (September 24 and 25). Tickets for non-Temple members for both services normally cost $500 each.
“As an arts and entertainment industry synagogue, we feel it is our moral duty to support writers and actors in our community and pray for a quick resolution to their current strikes,” said Rabbi David Baron.
Guests for Yom Kippur, Judaism’s holiest day of the year, will include Cristiano J. Zeledón, a former U.S. Marine who will recount how he was wounded during a Russian missile strike in Ukraine while providing volunteer humanitarian aid there; Aron Bell, 96, who will share his story of how he and his late brothers,...

SAG-AFTRA members have pressed pause on film and TV production for the past three weeks, aside from some greenlighted indie projects, in an effort to get Hollywood studios and streamers, or the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), to offer them a fair deal. Last week, the Writers Guild of America received a request from the AMPTP to reconvene negotiations after a more than three-month strike, and SAG-AFTRA members are hoping to be next. While calls for fair compensation, AI protections, revenue sharing, and updates to health care...

Even though songwriter Diane Warren hasn’t won yet at the Oscars in the Best Original Song category after 13 nominations, what it does underscore is the continued high regard and esteem which the Academy holds her in.
Even more so, Warren’s resilience in staying sharp with her craft. And it was resilience which inspired in writing “Somehow You Do” for the Mila Kunis-Glenn Close drama Four Good Days.
In an underrated performance that completely turns heads, Kunis plays a struggling heroin addict who is trying to get back on track, and Close the tough, but compassionate mother who looks to steer her daughter.

In the first season of “Stranger Things,” the quartet of young men (“the party,” to use the parlance of Dungeons and Dragons) is clearly a direct homage to the show’s love of Stephen King (many of King’s narratives revolve around similar friend groups). But it’s the addition of Eleven to the group — the “mage,” as Mike likes to refer to her — that aligns the show with an even more common trope.
Nearly any child of the ’80s and ’90s will fondly remember, as a part of their youth, watching cartoons. And for boys, there was a lot of fun to be had in identifying with certain characters. You could be a “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” fan, but more intellectual types might consider themselves to be Donatello, while a more rebellious boy might prefer to don the red eye mask of Raphael.

Netflix has released a full trailer for their upcoming animated series Stretch Armstrong and The Flex Fighters. The series was inspired by the classic late 70's-early 80's action figure that kids could stretch. The series has a very different kind of tone and vibe as the original toy, but it looks like a fun series that the kids will enjoy.
The story follows a high school student named Jake Armstrong and his two best friends Nathan Park and Ricardo Perez and they are accidentally exposed to an experimental chemical that forever changes their lives. They are transformed into unlikely heroes who embark on a series of adventures.
Stephen Davis, Chief Content Officer and Executive Vice President, Hasbro Inc. previously had this to say in a statement:
“Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters is the first Hasbro brand to receive a Netflix original series order. We have been waiting for just...

Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for Hasbro's upcoming animated series Stretch Armstrong and the Freedom Fighters. The series was inspired by the classic stretchable action figure from the late 70's-early 80's. I had one of the toys when I was a kid, and although the first part of the trailer touches on that classic toy, this series is going to be something very different. It's a series that looks like it could be fun for the kids. Watch the trailer and you'll see what I mean.

One of the many great things about comic books is that the medium allows for crossovers to occur, a lot of which we’ll probably never see in live action cinema or even animation due to an unbelievable amount of red tape. Case in point: back in 2015, we finally saw Batman meet the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in a team-up that had previously only went down whenever we were kids playing with the various action figures we owned.
Thankfully, we’re getting an official sequel now thanks to a real life team-up involving DC Entertainment, Idw Publishing and Nickelodeon. Granted, there was also the recent miniseries dubbed Batman/Tmnt Adventures, but that involved the animated versions of the characters, not the comic book iterations, and was a different beast entirely. But, rest assured, Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II is a sequel in every sense of the word.

The Tick, out now on Amazon Prime Video, is huge fun. Here's how the show achieves what its creator envisioned 21 years ago...
In 1994, I was about to be a freshman in high school. Despite being “too old” for cartoons, there wasn’t really anything else on television on Saturday mornings while I was waiting for wrestling to show up on my television screen. I remember most of the cartoons I saw only in the vaguest terms: the creepy face of Louie Anderson’s gargoyle animated child or a screaming purple cat. I know the name of both shows because I looked them up prior to writing this article, but I couldn’t tell you anything about them. However, one show I watched regularly in the mid to late 90s stuck with me well into adulthood, and that’s the 1994-96 animated version of The Tick.

I'm sure some of you remember the classic Hasbro toy Stretch Armstrong, which first came out in the late 70s. I remember having one of the toys when I was growing up in the 80s. It was a toy of a superhero that could stretch. At one point, Hasbro was looking at adapting Stretch Armstrong into a feature film and Taylor Lautner was attached to star. Thankfully that didn't happen.
Instead, Hasbro opted to adapt the toy into an animated series called Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters and that series is coming to Netflix.
The story follows a high school student named Jake Armstrong and his two best friends Nathan Park and Ricardo Perez and they are accidentally exposed to an experimental chemical that forever changes their lives. They are transformed into unlikely heroes who embark on a series of adventures.

Animated series Stretch Armstrong And The Flex Fighters is due to hit Netflix in November. Here's your first proper look at it...
A few years back, Hasbro were hankering for a movie version of Stretch Armstrong to grace the big screen. It was part of a bunch of properties they were developing, along with various board games and toy lines. They even linked Twilight's Taylor Lautner to the lead role, and tapped Breck Eisner to direct. At this point, it looks like that project is a lost cause.

If you were a fan of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon series, you're gonna love this new series of action figures that Neca just revealed! It's a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive box set that includes Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael. It also included the villains Shredder, Krang, and a couple Foot Clan thugs. The figures are all based on the designs from the classic cartoon series that we all grew up watching.
I use to own all of the original figures and I'm sure I've still got a few of them buried in some boxes somewhere. I'd love to get my hands on one of these sets! I really love the look of these figures and they would make a great addition to any collection.
Neca has released some additional details for the set that you can read below. I also included more photos of them for you to check out!

I'll admit, I didn't know Virgin was coming out with its own fiber internet connection, but I'm not surprised. The surprise comes from the epic commercial they released to announce it! It starts off in a futuristic tunnel as we see French Revolution type running through it chased by flaming arrows shot by an unknown assailant. Then it gets crazy. An incredible race scene ensues, getting more crowded as it goes. The characters are references to movies and television shows like Game of Thrones, Mad Max, and The Dark Knight. We do get a cameo from one licensed character, Donatello from the Nickelodeon cartoon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Turns out they're all racing inside a fiber cable line held by a Virgin Fibre installation guy, who thinks he hears the commotion inside the cable. The commercial ends with the following tagline.
"The best entertainment deserves awesome wi-fi. This is Virgin Fiber.

Mondo recently announced a Nickelodeon-themed gallery art show that they are putting on called A Nick-Nick-Nick-Nick-n-Nick-Nick-Nick... Nickelodeon Show! and they've released a couple of posters inspired by their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. They were created by Ciro Nieli, who is a producer and director on the show, and as you can see they have a very unique style to them. They have a very sketchy feel to them and they are filled with notes, which is actually kinda cool. The first poster features Casey Jones and the second is of Metalhead, who is a fifth robot Ninja Turtle created by Donatello.
I also included a few other pieces that they teased featuring Ren & Stimpy by Florian Bertmer, Tmnt by Sachin Teng, and Rocko's Modern Life by Dave Perillo. The art show takes place from December 9th to the 17th at Mondo Gallery in Austin, Texas.

The last couple of Growing Up Geek posts I did were focused on some of the early films that I made when I was growing up. I still have a few I want to share, but I’ve hit a snag with some of the video transfers from Dv to DVD to digital. I’ll eventually get these awesomely embarrassing videos up for you to watch, but I want to keep the Growing Up Geek show rolling forward, so here we go!
In the early '90s, I was growing up in Glendale, CA. I spent a lot of time working and hanging out at a local stage theater, going to the movies, hitting up the local comic book store, and spending hours and hours at the local arcade. This article will focus on arcade life, because I was kind of an arcade rat for a few years.

Can you bake a nerdy cake for around a fiver? Enter our competition! These 4 writers' entries get the ball rolling...
People have a right to cake. That's why Madeira sponge is at the top of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.
With the imminent demise of The Great British Bake-Off in its current form, Den Of Geek saw a gap in the cake-based competion market and duly filled it. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Geeks Bake Things!
The idea is simple: make a nerdily themed cake for something in the area of five pounds (we're not expecting receipts but don't go mad), send us in a picture to denofgeek@yahoo.com and you could win something brilliant out of our cupboard. The deadline for entries is one week from today, Tuesday the 27th of September.
Four writers below tried it, and here's how they got on...

Channelling the spirit of summer school holiday classic Why Don’t You?, Den Of Geek decided its writers should just switch off their television sets and go out and do something less boring instead. That thing would be to construct a home-made Dalek to the best of their abilities, using a budget of £5* and items purchased at their local pound shop.
Here’s what happened.
*We were allowed to go up to £7 if required. Anyone that chose to go up to £7 definitely did not cheat - Lm

I’ve got an incredibly fun Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles short film for you to watch that was created by Invader Zim creator Jhonen Vasquez. The short features Donatello and Raphael fighting in a battle that escalates into ridiculousness.
We see the two characters battle in all sorts of ways that include playing video games, eating hot dogs, jump rope, and even a bake off. Of course, the Ninja Turtles wouldn’t be the Ninja Turtles without Shredder and his Foot Clan goons making an appearance.
This is a standalone short that isn’t connected to any other Tmnt project that is currently in development, but it’s still a lot of fun, so enjoy!

Anyone who’s nostalgic for the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle” cartoon series from the ‘80s and ‘90s will appreciate a new animated Tmnt short from Jhonen Vasquez, the creator of Nickelodeon’s “Invader Zim.”

The San Diego Comic Con exclusive is a six-minute cartoon entitled “Don vs. Raph,” and it features an epic battle between the brothers over who is the better fighter. While the heroes in the half-shell are known for being equally goofy as they are masters of martial arts, Vasquez’s short sees Donatello and Raphael compete in some pretty bizarre activities after beating each other to a pulp and deciding fighting won’t settle their score.

Dr. Martens has announced that they are launching a new line of boots inspired by the characters from the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon series (not that shitty film franchise that just keeps getting worse).
The boots come in four styles and they are available in sizes for men, woman, and kids. If you're a hardcore Ninja Turtle fan, and you want to boldly rock your fandom, these are for you!
Below you'll find some additional photos with descriptions and a promo video.
Leonardo Leonardo stands for respect, courage and Kick ass moves. His boot has the phrase ‘Cowabunga!’ and a glow-in- the-dark slime splatters across the toe. Donatello stands for Skate, sleep and eating. His boot features two different expressions on each toe, a purple removable face mask and cartoon turtle shell patterning up the side. Raphael stands for being lean, mean and green. His boot has glow-in-the-dark ooze dripping down on the sides,...

The antics of Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Donatello were always going to be perfect for a franchise. Not only does it give a chance for adults to take a nostalgic trip down memory lane to their infancy when they used to watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in cartoon and movie form, but it allows them to introduce the heroes in a half-shell to their offspring, too. But what are the chances that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows will be followed by another sequel? Well, according to its cast, that.s the plan. I had the opportunity to sit down with the cast of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows last month, where I asked them about the potential of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3. And having only just made his debut as Casey Jones in Out Of The Shadows, Stephen Amell admitted that he is...

“Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover” is a proverb whose simple existence proves the fact impressionable souls will do so without fail. This monthly column focuses on the film industry’s willingness to capitalize on this truth, releasing one-sheets to serve as not representations of what audiences are to expect, but as propaganda to fill seats. Oftentimes they fail miserably.

It wouldn't be a third person brawler game without some character specialties. That's exactly what Activision is showing off in the Character Trailers for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan!
These trailers show highlights of each turtle and what they bring to the team. Leonardo’s determined focus, Raphael’s explosive attacks, Donatello’s calculating genius and Michelangelo’s wild energy are on full display. Not to mention, the environments and enemies that the Heroes in a Half Shell will encounter.
Activision has worked really hard, marketing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan. So far, we've seen a couple of gameplay trailers, a villains trailer, and now character trailers. That's a lot of content for most video games. Perhaps, they're trying to pounce on the hype train, as Tmnt Out of the Shadows approaches. It's a smart move for the developer. Especially, since the game looks really good.

You know how every year when spring rolls around you get that compulsion to turf out, e.g., those sweaters you’ve had since high school (high school, for heaven’s sake! That was an eon ago, back when you thought skater style was rad)? And those old magazines, and maybe a set of silverware someone gave you once but you’ve since replaced with a nicer set?
Well I always get that compulsion after Christmas. Possibly because I don’t have a ton of storage space, and inevitable I’ll return from Christmas break with some awesome thing that I have absolutely no place for. And thus, the turfing out begins.
It always takes me awhile, and I like to blame this on my grandmothers (who I loved dearly, by the way). You could not imagine two more different houses when it came to aesthetic than those of my...

Your favorite heroes in a half-shell are going to have to demonstrate some big-time turtle power to dominate all of the villains in PlatinumGames’ upcoming “Mutants in Manhattan.” The “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” are back — but unfortunately, so are most of their biggest foes, including BeeBop, Rocksteady, Krang, Armaggon, and an apparently never-ending slew of Foot soldiers. And oh yeah, Shredder is ready to get it on too, after laying in wait for the opportunity to take down Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael. “Patience is the greatest virtue of a conquerer,” a menacing Shredder voiceover opens the trailer, which hit.
