In World War 2 he was a prisoner of war in Germany from 1940-1945.
While in a German POW camp he starred in, produced, directed and even wrote many plays while a captive.
Committed suicide by leaping from a height while in hospital.
Received a leg wound and was captured in February 1940 at Dunkirk. Was even listed as killed in action for a while.
Was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in British army in 1940.
Specialised in playing quiet, but determined authority figures, particularly policemen, military officers, barristers and politicians.
Studied acting at the Stratford Shakespeare Theatre.
Was on the shortlist for actors considered for the role of Bennett in Doctor Who: The Rescue. Ray Barrett won the role.
