The Outsider Episode 1
HBO, as networks, go, doesn't have a particular brand save for excellence. No matter what the show, HBO wants it to be good, and it wants it to win awards. For beloved critical favorites like The Night Of and the first season of True Detective, however, HBO succeeded wildly at both goals. From the opening overhead shots of a small, sleepy town in Georgia to the final shots of all involved looking wrung out and miserable, HBO's Stephen King adaptation The Outsider looks to carry on that fine tradition of well-written procedurals anchored by stellar acting performances.
The premise of the show is very simple. A local child in the community named Frankie is discovered dead in a park.

HBO's TV adaptation of Stephen King novel The Outsider showcases a crime drama with a supernatural horror twist.
Stephen King’s novel The Outsider is becoming a drama series at HBO, which has given the adaptation a 10-episode order.
The story of The Outsider puts a mind-blowingly monstrous twist on traditional murder fiction. Here, police detective Ralph Anderson (Ben Mendelsohn) fields an investigation in the fictional Oklahoma town of Flint City that upends the local populace when a well-liked local man, Terry Maitland (Jason Bateman), is arrested for the shockingly malicious murder of an 11-year-old boy. While a mountain of evidence – including DNA and fingerprints – make the case seem open-and-shut, Maitland vehemently swears his innocence; an idea that gains momentum when his alibi – of being out of town at a conference – checks out, leading the investigation to a potentially supernatural turn.
Onboard as executive producers are Richard Price,...
