It was heartbreaking when the copyright dispute between original Friday the 13th producer/director Sean S. Cunningham and screenwriter Victor Miller came up and brought any further development of the extremely cool Friday the 13th video game to a screeching halt. Now here’s another franchise video game heartbreaker: the folks at Saber Interactive have announced that they won’t be developing any new content for Evil Dead: The Game, and plans to bring the game to Nintendo Switch have been abandoned.
Here’s the announcement:

No information was given on exactly why Saber had decided to set aside any further development of the game. It would be odd if there are licensing issues, because the rights to the overall Evil Dead franchise seem to be rather clear cut: they’re owned by franchise creator Sam Raimi, producer Rob Tapert, and star Bruce Campbell.

Dynamite Entertainment has released a ton of Army of Darkness comic books over the years, but with the upcoming series Army of Darkess: Forever they’re going back to the source: this comic book is a direct sequel to director Sam Raimi’s 1993 film (watch it Here)! And this sequel comes with a bonus in that it continues on from both endings of the film.
While the theatrical cut of Army of Darkness found our time traveling hero Ash back in his own time, working at S-Mart (and fighting a Deadite in the aisles), the director’s cut of the film ends with Ash being dropped into a post-apocalyptic future.
Here’s the information on Army of Darkness: Forever #1: The story picks up immediately after the events of the beloved film, jumping between three fun timelines. The Techno Army of Darkness of 2093, the S-Mart aisles of 1993, and the middle ages chaos of Castle Kandar,...

A new episode of The Arrow in the Head Show has just been released, and in this one hosts John “The Arrow” Fallon and Lance Vlcek are continuing to prepare for the new release Evil Dead Rise. For last week’s episode, they looked back at Evil Dead II, and now they’re revisiting the 1993 follow-up Army of Darkness (watch it Here)! To find out what they had to say about Army of Darkness, check out the video embedded above!
Written by Sam Raimi and his brother Ivan Raimi, Army of Darkness has the following synopsis: Ash is transported back to medieval days, where he is captured by the dreaded Lord Arthur. Aided by the deadly chainsaw that has become his only friend, Ash is sent on a perilous mission to recover the Book of the Dead, a powerful tome that gives its owner the power to summon an army of ghouls.

On February 19, 1993, the third entry in director Sam Raimi‘s Evil Dead franchise – Army of Darkness (watch it Here) – reached theatres. Even though the film was a box office failure, it quickly earned a cult following… and by now, it probably ranks as one of the most popular horror comedies ever made. That’s why we have put together a video to celebrate 30 years of Army of Darkness, which you can now check out in the embed above!

Just last month, Evil Dead: The Game was updated to add the characters of Mia and David Allen from the 2013 Evil Dead movie. This month, it’s going to receiving the “Hail to the King” update – and it’s quite appropriate that the update is named after a line from Army of Darkness, because it involves the addition of an Army of Darkness-inspired single player mission and a character from Army of Darkness!
The new single player mission has the following description: “Castle Kandar’s Witch has opened a rift in time and space. Henry the Red must put her to the sword to save mankind.“
The Army of Darkness character who is being added to the game is The Blacksmith. In the film, the Blacksmith was played by Timothy Patrick Quill, who unfortunately passed away last year at the age of 63. It’s a nice tribute to Quill that...

Last month, the developers of Evil Dead: The Game announced that the character Mia Allen, who was played by Jane Levy in the 2013 Evil Dead, will be added to the game as a playable character on September 8th. A week later, it was announced that Mia’s brother David Allen, who was played by Shiloh Fernandez, is also being added to the game on September 8th. Now more details on the game’s versions of these characters have been revealed!
Here’s the information on Mia: “All that anger, all that terror – now, she’s learned how to use them. Her abilities include converting her own fear into damage and complete resistance to demon possession.”
And here’s the information on David, whose arrival in the game coincides with the arrival of a new weapon, the nail gun: “Whatever it takes, David will be there until the end. His team-boosting...

Some Doctor Who characters are intended for greatness; some are intended to be killed off at the end of their first episode. Writers have a lot more control over the second than the first. What remains true for all characters, is the tension that exists between their function in the story and their potential to affect it. Even a guard who simply runs into a room to get shot could have dragged the story in another direction, should they be allowed (this stock background character was the inspiration for Terry Pratchett’s City Watch novels).
Successful one-off characters aren’t necessarily those who break away from their function,, but those who make a story soar to another level entirely. More often, what makes them work is when their function in the story is disguised. There are plenty of ways to do this and most of them intersect: casting, costume, dialogue,...

Army of Darkness
Written by Sam and Ivan Raimi
Directed by Sam Raimi
U.S.A. 1992
The Evil Dead series, both in the cinematic and television forms, has a marvelously delirious history. An original film financed on a shoestring budget that plays its horror-centric tone mostly straight but with a few chuckle inducing moments, a sequel that is in essence a remake of the original and was originally supposed to follow the plot of the third film, said third film that goes off in a completely different direction, and now a TV series, 22 years later, that makes no reference to the third installment for legal reasons, therefore technically continuing the story of the first film but unquestionably borrowing the slapstick, overly comedic identity of the third movie. Few popular franchises can claim to having a developmental history has complicated and hard fought as Evil Dead, although one would struggle to consider that a virtue.

Sam Raimi’s Army of Darkness concluded the Evil Dead trilogy on a very different note.
With Army of Darkness, the concluding (at the time!) installment in what became known as the Evil Dead trilogy, Sam Raimi completed a series that swerved from nasty yet funny horror into full-blown slapstick comedy – with mixed results. The first Evil Dead – an instant cult classic upon its arrival in 1981 – was a lunatic mix of outright horror, black comedy and sight gags, a movie that gave you the creeps and made you laugh out loud at the same time while also introducing Raimi’s energetic, wildly creative visual style. Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn, issued in 1987, amped up the gore and gags at the expense of the horror, but was still outrageously entertaining.

These included guest roles in the series The Avengers, Gunsmoke, Starsky and Hutch, Hart to Hart, and Murder She Wrote, in addition to leads in the short-lived U.S. sitcom Nobody's Perfect (1980), starring Moody as a Scotland Yard detective transferred to the San Francisco Police Department, and in the British fantasy Into the Labyrinth (1981), with Moody as the noble sorcerer Rothgo. Throughout the decades, he could also be spotted in several TV movies, among them:[1] David Copperfield (1969). As Uriah Heep in this disappointing all-star showcase distributed theatrically in some countries.

To celebrate its 50th birthday this month, Andrew talks us through 50 great Doctor Who scenes...
Doctor Who, what with being the greatest thing ever and all, has its fair share of great scenes. You could – and people have – write a list of one great scene per story. There are thousands to choose from. Here, we have a list of fifty in no particular order. The criteria is simply that we enjoy them.
Because we all know about 'Do I have the right?' and 'I'm not going to let you stop me now', I've also tried finding moments from less popular episodes just to give them some love. No story is completely without merit (Even Timeflight has Khalid) and like it or not, Time and the Rani happened, so we're all just going to have to deal with it.
So, here's a selection of fifty great scenes.

Back in August, we told you that filming was underway in Michigan on director Sam Raimi‘s forthcoming Walt Disney Pictures movie, Oz: The Great and Powerful. Shortly after filming began, we brought you the news when actor Bruce Campbell stated on Twitter that he would be joining the likes of James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams, Joey King and Zach Braff on the cast.
Now, we sadly have some bad news… GroovyBruce himself posted the following message on Twitter -
“News: my scene in Oz has been cut before shooting. It happens on epic flicks. Disappointed, but all good w/Sam. On to the next adventure!”
Synopsis:
When Oscar Diggs (Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot — fame and fortune are his for the taking — that is until he meets three witches,...

Alright you primitive screwheads, listen up! Ash returns to fight the deadheads once again in the form of Bruce .The Chin. Campbell. Groovy baby, but where.s the director.s cut? It.s not here and the specials features on it are welcome but somewhat anemic. At least the movie is still grand. baby. After the events of Evil Dead II, Ash (Bruce Campbell) finds himself transported back to medieval England. He.s captured by Lord Arthur (Marcus Gilbert), his shotgun and chainsaw confiscated, and thrown into a pit with a Deadite. After defeating the Deadite, Arthur.s Wise Man (Ian Abercrombie) returns his weapons to Ash and says that if he.s going to get back to his own time he.s going to have...
