Exclusive: Channel 4 has delivered the verdict on which of its biggest 2023 entertainment launches have landed a second season.
Tempting Fortune, the Paddy McGuinness-hosted adventure reality series, has been given the greenlight for a supersized second season, although U.S. co-pro partner Roku is no longer involved. Danny Dyer-hosted Scared of the Dark, in which celebrities are locked in a pitch-black space for a week, will no longer be seeing the light of day and has been axed.
The move ends a several-months-long period of speculation over which major 2023 launches would be given the nod for Season 2 during which Channel 4 also culled Studio Lambert’s Traitors-esque Rise and Fall and its version of U.S. History channel hit Alone, the latter revealed by Deadline last week.
Tempting Fortune from Scoop co-producer Voltage TV will shift from six to eight episodes for Season 2. The show sees contestants dropped...

The Beatles’ “Ob-la-Di, Ob-la-Da” was voted the worst song of all time in a poll of 1,000 people. The song is nowhere near the disaster the poll claims it is. “Ob-la-Di, Ob-la-Da” works better in the context of The White Album. The Beatles | John Pratt / Stringer
The Beatles‘ “Ob-la-Di, Ob-la-Da” has a bad reputation. In fact, it topped a poll to find the worst song of all time. Despite this, it’s a much better song than a lot of the critics seem to think.
The polled listeners who hated The Beatles’ ‘Ob-la-Di, Ob-la-Da’ also hated Meat Loaf
According to a 2004 report from the BBC, a Mars Research poll of 1,000 people sought to determine the worst song of all time. No. 3 was Meat Loaf’s “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That).” No. 2 was “Fog On The Tyne” by the soccer player Paul Gascoigne.

Derren Brown’s five-star spectacle Showman will be screened on television for the first time on Sunday night (23 April).
When the illusionist’s show hit the London stage last year, it was described by critics as “mind-blowing” and “sobering”.
The content of Showman remains top secret, but to mark the broadcast, we listened back on Brown’s fascinating 2019 interview on Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs. Here are five intriguing things we learnt…
The liquid latex anecdote
Brown told a bizarre story about using liquid latex years ago when he was living in a house share. “I put some of this latex on my eye just a little bit one morning because it looked like special effects makeup, it looked like, you know, I’d hurt my eye,” he said.
“I went down to breakfast and I loved the attention and when friends asked, ‘What did you do to your eye?...

Most true crime dramas retell stories from long enough ago that many viewers weren’t alive to hear about them the first time around, from David Tennant’s portrayal of 1980s serial killer Dennis Nilsen in Des to The Serpent, the BBC drama about 1970s murderer Charles Sobhraj. But ITV’s latest example, The Hunt for Raoul Moat, depicts a violent crime so recent that we don’t just remember hearing about it, we remember tweeting about it.
In 2010, Raoul Moat shot three people in Northumberland: his ex-girlfriend, Samantha Stobbart, was seriously injured, her partner Chris Brown died, and police officer David Rathband was blinded and later took his own life. A six-day manhunt gripped the nation, culminating in a police stand-off at a riverbank, where Moat shot himself. Dramatising such a recent tragedy has attracted criticism – including from the families of Stobbart and Rathband – and led many to wonder:...

Raoul Thomas Moat wasn’t the first and won’t be the last self-pitying, self-righteous, narcissistic example of violent toxic masculinity, but he was certainly one of the most destructive. ITV’s three-part The Hunt for Raoul Moat is a superbly directed (by Gareth Bryn) dramatisation of Moat’s last murderous days on earth in the summer of 2010, during which he managed to evade the police for a week and kill, maim and destroy the lives of those around him. He took his own life in a final pathetic act of nihilism, caught by the television cameras in grainy nighttime vision, his sawn-off shotgun pointed at his head. It was the ultimate insult heaped on his victims that he escaped justice. The manhunt around Northumbria as Moat escalated his threats to kill random members of the public gripped the nation. The drama is a tense and faithful re-enactment of what happened,...

ITV’s new true crime drama, The Hunt for Raoul Moat, tells the astonishing story of Britain’s biggest manhunt, which took place in 2010 after Moat – a former bouncer and bodybuilder – shot three people just days after being released from prison.
The three-parter focuses on the innocent victims of Moat’s crimes – Christopher Brown, Samantha Stobbart and PC David Rathband – as well as the police officers who put themselves in the firing line in their quest to apprehend Moat, and the local journalist who sought to tell Moat’s real story.
Lee Ingleby stars as senior Northumbria Police Officer Neil Adamson, with Sonya Cassidy playing local journalist Diane Barnwell and Matt Stokoe portraying Moat.
Certain details – such as footballer Paul Gascoigne’s unlikely involvement in the case – have been left out of the dramatisation.
Below is a summary of the true story that inspired The Hunt for Raoul Moat.

On 9 July, Moat was tracked to a National Trust estate near Rothbury, Northumberland, with police surrounding him while he held a gun to his neck. In an attempt to make him surrender, food and water were reportedly offered to Moat, while...

Sky has unveiled one of its biggest factual slates yet, greenlighting six shows including documentaries on the assassination of Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme and the Italian 1990 football World Cup, and a royal factual drama told through the eyes of Queen Victoria’s granddaughters.
The shows will air across Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, Sky Nature and Sky History over the next year and come as the Comcast-owned pay-tv giant prepares for a swanky London do tomorrow night, at which they will be presented.
Leading the slate is The Assassination of Olof Palme, a thriller-esque four-part series set in the Scandi Noir world of Cold War Sweden when the Prime Minister was shot in 1986 on the snowy streets of Stockholm. What followed was a 36-year search for the killer, which consumed many including the late Girl With the Dragon Tattoo author Stieg Larsson.

To mark the release of Gazza, out now, we’ve been given 3 copies to give away on DVD.
Paul Gascoigne was the face of ‘90s Britain, the most celebrated young footballer in the world, and a newspaper editor’s dream. His on-field brilliance was matched only by his off-field antics, which the tabloid media ruthlessly exploited for a celebrity-obsessed audience.
Gazza is an unflinching portrait of the ultimate tragic hero, whose love for the riches and limelight of fame proved to be his downfall. An unmissable documentary for any football fan, featuring interviews from friends, family, and former teammates and coaches including Alan Shearer, Bryan Robson, Paul Ince, Ian Wright and Terry Venables.
Gazza was directed by Sampson Collins and was produced by Gareth Dodds, Tom Wood, Vaughan Sivell & Will Kane with Keith Haviland & Mark Stewart credited as Exec Producers.
Please note: This competition is open to UK residents only...

There’s been so much written about former England footballer Paul Gascoigne – aka Gazza – that you wonder what’s left to be said. If this feature-length documentary, shown in two parts on the BBC, is anything to go by, the answer is not a lot.
That’s not to say Gazza isn’t worth a watch, it’s just that it ends up being one long nostalgia trip at times, and probably doesn’t quite fulfil its brief.
Whereas 2020’s superlative Finding Jack Charlton – another movie about one of both football’s and the North-East’s biggest personalities – gives us plenty of fresh insights, interviews and footage, Gazza does little of that.
Granted, the subject matter differs as wildly as the two men’s careers at times, but there are moments when it comes across as an almost pointless exercise. For a start, there were that many people that declined...

Euro Box Office Stats For 2021
While European box office in 2021 recovered well from 2020, up 42% to 3.8B euros ($4.23B), the year was still 57% down on pre-pandemic takings in 2019, data from the International Union of Cinemas shows. Unic, which reps European cinema trade associations and operators, said in its preliminary findings that admissions increased by an estimated 38% in 2021, with over 590M visits across the region. American Woman and Black Mass star Sienna Miller has been awarded a substantial payout from the Sun parent News UK after the newspaper obtained details of her pregnancy in 2005 via what she believes to be “blatantly unlawful means.”
The star is one of a number of celebrities including Sean Bean, Australian cricketer Shane Warne and UK footballer Paul Gascoigne to have received payouts this week from Rupert Murdoch’s company, following a scandal that was first revealed a decade ago.
In a statement read out in the UK High Court, Miller said then-Sun editor Rebekah Brooks, who is now News UK CEO, used “blatantly unlawful means” to find out she was pregnant before she had even had a chance to tell friends and family. Miller says court documents show senior Sun journalist Nick Parker had met a “medical records tracer” in July and August 2005 to discuss her pregnancy, before the...

The producer of “Bobby Robson: More Than a Manager” has signed a deal with Dogwoof, which will handle international sales on the feature documentary about the legendary English soccer manager.
The film was made by London-based Noah Media Group. It had a limited theatrical release in the U.K. and is available on digital platforms – it has been one of the most popular titles on iTunes and Amazon following Noah’s self-distribution strategy through its NoahX arm. While the cinema at present is filled with Infinity Wars, solo Solos and soon the resurrection of those pesky dinosaurs, there are some small gems to be found as well and for football fans, and indeed sports fans, this week sees the release of Bobby Robson: More Than A Manager, the story of the late great football manager who took England to the World Cup semi’s in 1990 and took charge of Barcelona, Psv and his home, Newcastle United.
The new documentary, co-directed by renowned sports reporter Gabriel Clarke, takes an in-depth look at Robson’s career through the years and his subsequent health battles with cancer. Clarke says that the story itself was enough to make the film, saying:
“It’s just a fantastic story. There’s a reasonable amount of distance since Bobby died and the cancer foundation is an incredible story in its own right but...

Daniel Gordon’s latest documentary, on the life of the irresistible, troubled footballer George Best, begins with an anecdote of the Manchester United legend in his later years, ambling, drunk, in the middle of the street in the pouring rain, a mere shadow of the man who once adorned the turf of Old Trafford. While recent documentaries on Paul Gascoigne and Bobby Moore avoided the destructive nature, and less illuminating years of the subject’s lives, Gordon signals his intentions from the offset, with the tragic elements to the great man’s life a paramount focus, as prevalent within this endeavour as the glory – and what transpires is a truly compelling piece of cinema.

Jimmy Bullard definitely doesn't want to see former campmate Gemma Collins re-entering the jungle, arguing that "she had her chance and she bottled it".
The former footballer and I'm a Celebrity star - fronting upcoming London Live sports series Jimmy Bullard Kicks Off - reacted to rumours Collins could be back on the ITV reality show by incredulously replying to Digital Spy: "No way, really? How did she get called back - she didn't last four minutes?!
"I disagree, I don't think she should be allowed back. She's had her chance and she bottled it."
Recalling the moment when the ex-towie star entered the main camp after the group was split into two, Bullard remembered: "The thing with Gemma - the camps were separated and she came into the main camp which I was in and she had a bit of a breakdown.
"So then she started crying on me of all people.

Has Will Mellor just let slip he's entering the I'm a Celebrity jungle? Or is there something else going on here?
The former Hollyoaks star just posted a snap of himself posing in the standard uniform from the ITV reality show on his Twitter page - which he has since deleted.
The 39-year-old actor can be seen in the apparent press shot wearing the ITV show's signature brown T-shirt and red sleeveless jumper complete with his name and a phone number printed beneath.
He didn't add any caption with the picture and has yet to offer an explanation.
One Twitter user, however, suggested it's just a stunt and pointed to the phone number as proof.
Mmm, sure. ITV using a Freephone number for something. Nice try, buddy. https://t.co/fLMfWW1YkD

It feels like only yesterday that Gemma Collins was crying mascara stained tears while complaining of contracting malaria - but this year's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here is now just a mere month away.
Last year's series saw Carl Fogarty crowned King of the Jungle. But which stars will be enduring the Australian kangaroo anus-eating adventures on the ITV show this year? Here's the rumoured line-up so far:
Stephanie Davis
Who? Former Hollyoaks actress who was recently axed due to being "unfit to work because of alcohol consumption".
The rumour: The 22-year-old is reportedly "hot property" as a number of reality shows try to sign her up, according to The Mirror's unnamed insider. The star - who played Sinead O'Conner for five years in the Channel 4 soap - is no stranger to TV competitions, previously taking part in Over the Rainbow - a BBC One talent...

Newcastle United take on Northampton Town in the second round of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday evening. The Magpies will be hoping to launch a successful cup campaign that will see them bring silverware to St James’ Park for the first time since 1969’s Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.
Steve McClaren will be looking for his first competitive win as the Toon’s boss against a side that have won two and lost two, in Skybet League Two so far this season.
This will be a test for McClaren – who stated on his arrival at the club that winning one of the two domestic cups was one of his “primary objectives“. With that in mind, there’s a good chance that United will field a strong team against The Cobblers.

★★★☆☆ To every lover of football, Paul Gascoigne embodies both what is good and bad about the beautiful game. A naturally gifted player forged on the streets of the North East, his loveable personality off the pitch and sublime moments on it endeared him to a nation. At the same time, an addictive personality combined with the temptation of fame led to self-destruction, leaving many to wonder what might have been. New documentary Gascoigne (2015) covers his early life, and his career up until around the end of Euro '96. With most of the documentary told in a 'one-on-one' style similar to James Toback's Tyson (2008), the fascinating moments are normally derived from glimpses into the footballer's mind.

There is a heart-in-the-mouth moment within a minute of meeting Paul Gascoigne in a London hotel room. The former footballer’s alcohol problems have been well advertised. Who can forget him trying to “save” murderer Raoul Moat while in a drunken stupor, or his “dentist’s chair” drinking game stunt in a Hong Kong bar before Euro 96, and subsequent re-creation of it after his goal against Scotland. Currently, the line that the 48-year-old is peddling is that he’s sober, but that he can fall off the wagon at any second.

The two minute trailer for new documentary Gascoigne couldn’t fail to give you goosebumps, whether you’re a football fan or not. For one of the first times, Paul Gascoigne has looked back on his footballing career and in some ways it’s more poignant to hear him talk about his success than the decades of alcohol abuse and tabloid drama which followed.

There are few clubs that polarise opinion like Manchester United. Love them or loathe them, you can never ignore them. United have been one of the biggest clubs in the world for decades and are one of the best supported clubs in the world.
Naturally, a club of United’s stature are nearly always linked with players from all over the world.
For a club that has always looked to its youth ranks for talent, United have never been shy of bringing in star players. Even back in the 1960’s George Best and Bobby Charlton, graduates from the youth team were joined by Denis Law, whose transfer from Torino was a British record.
Fast-forward to the Alex Ferguson era, and the like of Giggs, Beckham, Scholes, the Nevilles and Nicky Butt found themselves rubbing shoulders with Eric Cantona, Juan Sebastian Veron and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

People always list their greatest England players of all time and the majority of people mention the name of Paul Gascoigne.
Without a doubt he is a legend of our game and has been described by the National Football Museum as “the most naturally gifted English midfielder of his generation.”
He made his name at Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur with that Fa Cup Semi-Final goal against Arsenal in 1991 being arguably the biggest moment of his club career.
On the international stage is where he shone brightest though.
His goal against Scotland in Euro 1996 has gone down in English football folklore.
Since he retired from football in 2004, it has been well documented that Gazza has had mental and emotional problems which have involved alcoholism.
And now after a number of attempts he has had at trying to live without alcohol, Gazza looks like he is on...

Professional wrestling, just like any other physical sport or activity, is punishing on the body. An obvious statement, sure, but wrestling goes above and beyond the punishment athletes in other sports suffer – ironically, for something many outside of the industry deem “fake”, wrestling is anything but, and has an unbelievable toll on the human body.
Of course, fans of the business know this, and are in fact often thankful for the sacrifices those men and women who work in a squared circle make, all in the name of entertainment. As shown by other athletes, such as footballer Paul Gascoigne, a reaction from an audience and thrill of competition can be an almighty drug, one which is nigh-on impossible for some people to give up.

All hail, Carl Fogarty… the new king of the jungle! The motorcycle champ stormed to victory in the nail-biting final of this year's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, pushing X Factor star Jake Quickenden into second place. We caught up with the sporting icon to find out about his jungle experience…
How does it feel to be crowned king of the jungle?
"It feels amazing. It feels unreal. It's crazy to think that 15 years ago, I was winning championships for the fans and now the fans are making me a champion again. I'm really thankful and really grateful that they've done this. It's the best feeling in the world."
Why do you think you won the jungle crown?
"I don't know! I keeping thinking to myself, 'What have I done to deserve this?' But I guess I've just been me and people like that. It's mad.

Despite Craig Bellamy’s assertions that Newcastle are nowhere near the size and profile of Manchester United, the two clubs have some serious history when it comes to close rivalry and some bad blood.
The clubs have butted heads on the pitch several times, playing their part in some of the most entertaining Premier League matches, and though the days the Magpies compete with the big bucks of Van Gaal’s side are gone (as we’re told almost every window), for a while the pair were close business rivals.
The revelation that Alan Shearer turned down Man Utd more than once is nothing new, but he is far from the only Newcastle player who almost ended up playing for the Red Devils at one point in their career…

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club have boasted some wonderful players both in the distant past – with the likes of Dave Mackay, Jimmy Greaves, Ossie Ardiles, Ricky Villa, Glenn Hoddle, Paul Gascoigne and Gary Lineker all having plied their trade at White Hart Lane – and in recent years – Gareth Bale, Luka Modric, Dimitar Berbatov, Teddy Sheringham and Ledley King to name but a few – and they’ve got quite a few on the books at the moment, with Hugh Lloris, Jan Vertonghen, Sandro and Christian Eriksen being just a few of those that stand out.
The North London club have also had a number of players who, on paper, seemed like good signings, but who just didn’t work out – Sergei Rebrov and David Bentley spring to mind, while the likes of Erik Lamela, Roberto Soldado and Paulinho are yet to prove their worth having become Spurs’ three...

Newcastle have a rich history of cultivating local talent through the ranks via the bristling production line that ran from the legendary Wallsend Boys Club to St James’ Park and unearthing potential stars thanks to the sharp judgement of an extensive scouting network.
While the names of Lee Clark, Tim Krul, Chris Waddle, Steven Taylor, Steve Watson and the two lads above, Peter Beardsley and Paul Gascoigne, are just some of our celebrated success stories that have prospered in black and white, inevitably, we’ve experienced the anguish of seeing more than few gifted youngsters slip through the net.
We aren’t alone though as every club has suffered the loss of a unpolished diamond at some point in their history whether it be through sheer ignorance or a colossal scouting blunder. It’s a small crumb of comfort but one that does little alleviate the torment.
