Violet Grohl joined David Bowie pianist Mike Garson to perform a series of Bowie covers during a concert at The Sun Rose in Los Angeles on Saturday. What’s more, Violet’s father, Dave Grohl, appeared as a special guest and joined his daughter for performances of Foo Fighters’ “Show Me How” and Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box.”
With the accompaniment of Garson and his band, the 17-year-old Grohl sang lead on renditions of “The Man Who Sold the World,” “Where Are We Now?”, “Lady Grinning Soul,” “Life on Mars?”, and “Aladdin Sane.”
She also teamed with her father for a duet of “Show Me How,” from Foo Fighters’ latest album But Here We Are, and Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box,” which saw Dave perform on drums.
Matt Pinfield attended the concert and shared clips of the performance on Instagram. “[Violet] was the featured vocalist all night with David Bowie keyboard legend Mike Garson and his band.

The David Bowie World Fan Convention brought the artists who worked with David Bowie to the audience who grew alongside his mythical output. Prior to the festivities, singer, fashion model, and actor Ava Cherry discussed the profound influences she brought to the singer-songwriter. Cherry was also quite open about how Bowie attempted to return the gestures, if not always the clothes he borrowed.
After Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars finished their mission, and just prior to recording Diamond Dogs, Bowie put together a trio he hoped would take off on their own orbits: Ava and the Astronettes. Front and center was his girlfriend, Ava Cherry.
After hearing Cherry harmonize with the top soul voices at an afterparty for Stevie Wonder’s Carnegie Hall concert, Bowie recruited Ava to go on the road to end the Ziggy Stardust tour in Japan. “David said ‘You’re a singer?’” Cherry tells Den of Geek.

Given five minutes and a rock orchestra, which David Bowie would you be? Jake Shears dashes and gyrates across the Festival Hall stage in a glittery jumpsuit to “Watch That Man”, every inch the glam-pop starman. Anna Calvi, the grand dame, expands into the austere Gallic elegance of “Lady Grinning Soul”. Battersea’s Tawiah finds the plastic soul of vaudevillian oompah classic “The Prettiest Star”. And Lynks – sashaying through the moral detritus of “Cracked Actor” in fashionista head-mask and a sci-fi outfit that could only be described as glam-gimp – sets out to encapsulate Bowie the alien art god.
It’s only the rock orchestra, really, that holds them back. This full performance of Bowie’s sixth album has been reinterpreted by the Nu Civilisation Orchestra for the Southbank’s Aladdin Sane: 50 Years anniversary season, and somewhat misses the point of the thing. Adam Blackstone is riding a career high.
For years he has been the musical mastermind behind live shows for Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, Janet Jackson, Alicia Keys, Maroon 5 and Eminem. This weekend, he picked up an Emmy Award for outstanding music direction for his work on “The Pepsi Super Bowl Lvi Halftime Show Starring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blackstone never really saw himself as a frontman until Covid made him stop and think about his legacy. “People trust me to curate,” he says. “I saw a couple of my friends pass away during Covid, and I had heard someone say, ‘I don’t want to die with a laptop full of ideas.’”

Evan Rachel Wood recalled the horror of forgetting David Bowie lyrics – during a Bowie tribute concert – on Thursday's Tonight Show.
Her "freak out" flub occurred during a guest spot on the Celebrating David Bowie tour, which featured several crucial members of the late art-rock singer's many bands, including keyboardist Mike Garson, guitarist Earl Slick and guitarist Gerry Leonard. Wood appeared during the February 28th spot at L.A.'s the Wiltern, and the life-changing moment did not go as planned.

Didn’t get enough “Heroes” in Moulin Rouge!? Ewan McGregor only sang a few bars of the David Bowie song for a medley in the Baz Luhrmann’s sparkling, stylish musical. But he belted out the whole song in a for-charity tribute to the late singer at Los Angeles venue the Roxy on Monday night. A video of his performance has hit the web, and it’s clear he’s got just as glorious a set of pipes as he did when Moulin Rouge! was made 15 years ago (and when he sang for the Bowie- and Iggy Pop-inspired Velvet Goldmine). Watch McGregor’s performance of “Heroes” below. If this results in you in a puddle on the floor, though, don’t say we didn’t warn you. Also at the tribute: Gary Oldman singing “The Man Who Sold the World” and Seal, who performed “Bring Me the Disco King...

David Bowie fans gathered together last night for a tribute celebrating the late music veteran at a benefit concert duteously dubbed, "Celebrating David Bowie" at L.A.'s '70s-born, and now tenably certified rock venue, The Roxy. Seal, Ewan McGregor, Gary Oldman, and Spiders From Mars keyboardist Mike Garson united for the tribute in a series of performances that paid earnest and effusive homage to the late musician. The impeccably—and diversely—talented bunch brought a collection of performances that impressed without distracting from the evening's intent: to remember Bowie's iconic stature as one of the industry's leading performers and pop culture's...

As it turns out, two of the most controversial moments of Adam Lambert's American Music Awards performance on Sunday night were total ad libs. That's what Lambert told MTV News on Tuesday, when he sat down to discuss the show-closing set that turned him into a global Internet sensation all over again.
"That wasn't in the original choreography," Lambert explained of the bit where he took a male dancer's head and shoved it into his crotch to mimic oral sex. "I was supposed to look at him, and I just grabbed him. I wouldn't have done it if I didn't think he would have been cool with it. ... It might look real forceful, but we all respect each other and were doing it...

After rescheduling two out of the four Los Angeles dates on the "Wave Goodbye" tour, Nine Inch Nails pulled out all the stops for their California fans, wrapping up the band's live farewell with a show at the Wiltern last night, which featured a guest appearance from Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro on three tunes.
What tricks were up mastermind Trent Reznor's sleeve this week? While New York fans were treated to a performance of the entirety of The Downward Spiral and guest appearances by Bauhaus' Peter Murphy, the Los Angeles shows has secrets of their own. Gary Numan joined the band at the Echoplex on September 6 and again at the Henry Fonda Theater on September 8. The Echoplex — a dingy, overheated basement club venue which shares its name with a song on the 2008 album Nin The Slip — was the perfect setting for Reznor's rage-filled, claustrophobic songs.
