With Earth Day coming up in a few days, Brian Eno has called on Mother Nature to give David Bowie’s 1995 deep cut “Get Real” a unique twist using environmental sounds. The remix has been released as part of a global music initiative called Sounds Right, which has made Nature an official artist on streaming platforms to raise money for earth conservation.
Thanks to Sounds Right, a share of royalties from any song that credits Nature as an artist will go to EarthPercent, a charity founded by Eno. The organization will then distribute that money to conservation and restoration projects in the world’s “most precious and precarious ecosystems” under the guidance of the Sounds Right Expert Advisory Panel, a group of world-leading biologists, environmental activists, Indigenous People’s representatives, and experts in conservation funding.

“I still think it’s a waste of time and money!” Crow said, before pointing to changing listening habits due to streaming. “People don’t listen to records as a full body of work, but I had all these songs that felt very timely.”

Sheryl Crow continues to show off her Evolution with the latest single from the album, a cover of “Digging in the Dirt” featuring vocals from Peter Gabriel himself. Stream it below.
“Digging in the Dirt” was originally released as the first single from Gabriel’s 1992 album, Us. Though Crow stays faithful to the original lyrics, her version adds power chords that give the song a more rock-centric feel. Gabriel doesn’t play a large part in Crow’s cover, but provides support on the chorus.
In a statement, Crow said “Digging in the Dirt” kickstarted the making of her new album. “The idea of self-examination to understand our wounds and flaws and how they affect our daily lives really resonated with me, because that process can lead to self-healing,” she said about the song. “But it can be messy, it feels like digging in the dirt. In the documentary “Resynator,” director Alison Tavel resurrects a synthesizer prototype that her late father, Don, invented.
Tavel, who lost her father when she was just 10 weeks old, initially wanted to make a short film doc about the synthesizer, which her father called the Resynator. The late-1970s invention generated a lot of buzz but never reached mass production. Tavel’s curiosity about the instrument ultimately led the director on a journey that helped her not only understand the Resynator and how it worked, but also who her father really was.
Tavel’s short doc eventually turned into a 96-minute film that includes interviews with estranged family, friends, inventors and celebrated musicians including Peter Gabriel, Fred Armisen and Jon Anderson.
Variety spoke to Tavel ahead of the doc’s SXSW world premiere on March 10.

Over 100 leading figures, led by members of The Elders and the Future of Life Institute, have issued an open letter calling on world leaders to take a bold new approach to address ‘catastrophic’ risks to humanity.
The letter states that ‘long-view leadership’ is needed to tackle the ongoing impact and escalating risks of the climate and nature crisis, pandemics, nuclear weapons, and ungoverned AI. It also illustrates that millions of lives and livelihoods are already impacted by these threats and world leaders’ inaction and failure to cooperate will drive humanity toward ‘greater catastrophe’.
The Elders, including Mary Robinson, Ban Ki-moon, Graça Machel, Juan Manuel Santos, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, together with the president of the Future of Life Institute, Max Tegmark, have been joined by former leaders (including Gordon Brown), Nobel Laureates, scientific experts, youth activists, business leaders (including Richard Branson), philanthropists and influential figures from across public life (including Annie Lennox...

Squid have shared a new single called “Fugue (Bin Song),” an outtake from the sessions of their recent sophomore album O Monolith.
After implementing it into their live performances over the past few years, Squid recorded “Fugue (Bin Song)” in spring 2022 as they were making O Monolith alongside their longtime collaborator Dan Carey at Peter Gabriel’s Real World studio. After its initial iteration didn’t make the cut on the record, Tortoise’s John McEntire re-mixed and edited the tune in late 2023, resulting in the version we hear today.
At nearly five and a half minutes, “Fugue” is a wandering jam that draws from elements of dance punk, post rock, and noise pop. You can hear a bit of McEntire’s influence as the song culminates into a furious coda, almost like “TNT” with a lot more shredding. Stream it below.

The Beatles gave us cult classic movies like Yellow Submarine and Help! It’s only fitting that John Lennon’s favorite movie was a cult classic Western. The movie in question is one of the most bizarre Westerns ever made. Fascinatingly, the director of the film said multiple rock stars connected with his work.
John Lennon loved a cult classic Western movie with a heavy dose of mysticism
Alejandro Jodorowsky is a surrealist filmmaker whose movies are like Salvador Dalí paintings come to life. According to Wired, John’s favorite movie was Jodorowsky’s mystical Western El Topo. The film is about an outlaw called El Topo (Spanish for “The Mole”) who becomes a holy man in a landscape filled with Judeo-Christian and occult imagery.
During a 2011 interview with Interviews with Icons, Jodorowsky discussed John’s relationship with the film. “I was lucky because of rock ‘n’ roll,” explained Jodorowsky.

The concept behind Peter Gabriel’s first album of original material in 21 years, i/o, feels strikingly contemporary. Over the last year, the veteran singer-songwriter has dropped a new song each month, touring arenas leading up to the album’s release. With each song being made available in a “Bright-Side” mix, “Dark-Side” mix, and a third Dolby Atmos “In-Side” mix, i/o effectively allows listeners to pick their favorites among the different versions and create their own playlist.
While the bones of the songs are taken from the exact same performances, the mixes feature major differences in their musical emphasis. For one, the “Bright Side” mix of “Panopticom” puts acoustic guitar at the forefront, while the instrument is barely heard in the “Dark Side Mix.” The former delivers a more potent version of the song, leaning into Gabriel’s penchant for grand statements, with sweeping, warm strings and piano.

After the loss of his son, Mark lost all interest in music and vowed to do everything in his power to help prevent gun violence so that no one else must go through what he and his family went through.

Hollywood star Jennifer Aniston’s friends are worried about her in the wake of Matthew Perry’s death. The ‘Friends’ star has taken his passing at just 54 extremely badly, according to an industry source, reports pagesix.com.
The actress and the other four surviving members of the cast of ‘Friends’ mourned him at his funeral on Friday.
“Out of the remaining five, Jen and Courteney (Cox) are reeling the most, and Jen is probably the one who is struggling most acutely,” said the source.
“It’s a second massive loss in less than a year, with the one-year anniversary of her dad’s death just around the corner. She still hasn’t fully regained her footing from that, and now this has just completely knocked her off her feet.”

Kate Bush didn’t attend the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony on Friday, but some of her biggest admirers celebrated her induction and her decades-long career: OutKast’s Big Boi, one of Bush’s most vocal (and unlikeliest) fans delivered her induction speech while St. Vincent performed the British singer’s resurgent hit “Running Up That Hill.”
Big Boi started his speech by sharing memories of first coming across Bush’s music. “I fell in love with Kate Bush when I was in middle school. My uncle Russell...

Kate Bush was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Friday.
Outkast rapper Big Boi, who describes himself as Bush’s “biggest fan,” had the honor of introducing her into Hall of Fame. “On the surface, our music is obviously very different,” Big Boi noted. “But in important ways, it’s exactly the same. What I love about Kate’s music is that I never know what sound I’m going to hear next. She ignores everything that sounds like a formula and instead does whatever she wants to — like me. She challenges me as a listener and expands my ears and my mind.”
“[She] fills my heads with idea and expand my ambitions for what music can achieve,” Big Boi continued. “As a singer, Kate’s voice is incredibly inventive. Who sounds like Kate Bush? On stage, she’s a miracle. Her songs sound theatrical on their own,...

There are few people in the music industry who have the presence of Bono. The Irish frontman of U2 knows no limitations when it comes to fighting poverty and hunger, and is constantly in direct contact with world leaders and policy makers in his quest to make the world a better place.
Bono was inspired to get involved in charity work after seeing The Secret Policeman’s Ball in 1979. In 1986 he helped organize Amnesty International's Conspiracy Of Hope tour alongside Sting, who was one of the Secret Policeman’s Ball performers seen by Bono, Peter Gabriel, Lou Reed, and Bryan Adams. He also got involved in the Band Aid and Live Aid projects which were organized by Bob Geldof – another Secret Policeman’s Ball performer, and later helped Geldof organize the 2005 Live 8 project.

28 October 2023 – The full moon, Saturday 28 October, sees the release of the penultimate track of Peter Gabriel’s new album i/o. This month the song is “And Still” and the first version to be heard is the Dark-Side Mix, by Tchad Blake.
Written and produced by Peter Gabriel, “And Still” is arguably one of the most skin-prickingly personal songs that Peter Gabriel has ever written. It is not just an elegy, it’s also an exploration of the nature of memory: how it tethers us, how it secures us.
‘I wrote a song for my dad a number of years back, which I was actually able to play him, which was ‘Father, Son’. When my mum died, I wanted to do something for her, but it’s taken a while before I felt comfortable and distant enough to be able to write something.

Long before Taylor Swift went into the woods for Folklore, she desperately wanted out of them. In the sixth music video she released from 2014’s 1989, she’s running through the forest in a blue dress, escaping a pack of wolves and magical roots that long to twist and curl around her. She’s tackling every kind of climate: crawling through the mud in the pouring rain; pausing in a blizzard to witness the icicles scattered across her arms; standing barefoot in a wildfire, covered in soot. When it ends, the weather is finally calm,...

For nearly a year, Peter Gabriel has been teasing his new album, i/o, by releasing a single to coincide with a full moon. On December 1st, he’ll finally unveil the project in full.
i/o marks Gabriel’s first album of new, original material in more than two decades. All 12 of the album’s tracks are subject to two stereo mixes: the Bright-Side Mix helmed by Mark ‘Spike’ Stent, and the Dark-Side Mix helmed by Tchad Blake. Congratulations are in order for Wolfgang Van Halen, who married his longtime girlfriend, Andraia Allsop, in a ceremony at their Los Angeles home on Sunday (October 15th). The rocker brought a little metal to the festivities by including the mighty Meshuggah on the wedding playlist.
Wolfgang and Andraia got married on the eighth anniversary of their first date. According to People, the bride was walked down the aisle by her father as Dean Martin’s “Everybody Loves Somebody” played.
Meanwhile, Wolfgang walked down the aisle with his mom, Valerie Bertinelli, to a tune written by his late father, the legendary Eddie Van Halen. “The song that my father had written for me, it’s an instrumental piece called ‘316,’ he told People in a pre-wedding interview. “It’ll be a nice way to include my dad.”

“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” officially opened on Friday, October 13. Under normal circumstances, Friday the 13th wouldn’t seem like an advantageous time to do anything except maybe get hunted by a hockey-masked serial killer, but in this case it happens to coincide with Grammy voting, which started on October 11 and ends October 20. Will that help her clean up in the nominations?
“The Eras Tour” has been a blockbuster on concert stages, and it was a blockbuster in movie theaters before it was even released, selling $100 million just in pre-sale tickets. That’s an astronomical number for a concert documentary, but it’s par for the course for Swift, who has enjoyed unprecedented success for the past year.

Her “Midnights” album dropped in October 2022 and in its first week achieved more than 1.5 million equivalent album units based on its combined record sales, individual track sales and online streams.

The Los Angeles Armenian American community is ramping up its public concerns over an international regional conflict between ethnic Armenians and Azerbaijan.
Last week, a protest blocked the southbound 101 in downtown Los Angeles after Azerbaijan resumed military attacks on an enclave where roughly 120,000 ethnic Armenians live. Thousands have fled their homes, according to Human Rights Watch, which added that most cannot flee because Azerbaijan had sealed the border.
The enclave in dispute is known as Nagorno Karabakh. Azerbaijan has laid claim to the land, which is at the heart of the dispute.
The recent escalation has raised concerns from several prominent Armenian voices from the entertainment community.
For Grammy Award winning Serj Tankian and Cher, and TV star Kim Kardashian, a crisis in a little-known region is not just a humanitarian disaster in a faraway land.

Taylor Swift had 11 nominations at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, and she won a whopping nine of them including Video of the Year and Song of the Year for “Anti-Hero” and Artist of the Year for her body of work. That’s impressive no matter how you slice it, but was it really warranted? After all, that’s more VMAs in one night than anyone has achieved since Peter Gabriel won nine for “Sledgehammer” back in the ’80s. Join the discussion with your fellow music fans here in our forums, and vote in our poll at the bottom of this post.
“This is a joke,” says forum poster joesilver. “Taylor Swift winning nine awards and most of them for ‘Anti-Hero’ doesn’t feel the same as [Lady Gaga] winning for ‘Bad Romance’ or Beyoncé winning for ‘Formation.'” Another user, sorcerer99, adds, “[Miley Cyrus‘s] ‘Flowers’ and [Sza‘s] ‘Kill Bill’ deserved big awards.

Ain’t no lie, pop boy band Nsync reunited at last night’s MTV Video Music Awards, giving the first award of the night, Best Pop Video, to Taylor Swift.
Taking the stage early on, Nysnc — Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, Jc Chasez, and Chris Kirkpatrick — were greeted with a resounding reception. On the mic, Chasez said, “Over 20 years ago we were just kids when we won Best Pop Video for ‘Bye, Bye, Bye,’…It was our first VMA and it meant the world to us.” Nysnc would win the award twice, taking home the Moonman the year after for, appropriately enough, “Pop”.
Lance Bass added, “A lot has changed over the past two decades but one thing remains constant, a creative, boundary-pushing video leaves a lasting mark for decades.” After naming the nominees, Nysnc announced Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero” as that night’s winner; this is Swift...

Wolfgang Van Halen’s Mammoth Wvh recently performed on NBC’s Today show, and in a heartwarming moment, cameras captured his mom, actress Valerie Bertinelli, and fiancée, Andraia Allsop, cheering on the band from the sidelines.
Speaking with Heavy Consequence, Wolfgang said the Today show performance was “one of the most nerve-wracking things ever.”
“I hadn’t slept at all, because we were up so early,” he added. “So, it was just kind of one big dream. MTV doesn’t air as many music videos as they used to, but the MTV Video Music Awards are still one of the most anticipated music events of each year. However, while the Grammys are voted on by the industry insiders who make up the Recording Academy, the VMAs have been decided by fans since 2006 (except for below-the-line professional categories like Best Direction and Best Cinematography). So who are the biggest winners of all time at these awards? Scroll down to see the most honored artists in history.
