While the names Vince McMahon and Hulk Hogan have been suplexed by controversy lately, it’s impossible to ignore how popular they had made the WWE, then WWF, back in the ’80s and ’90s. In 1989, the maniacal McMahon had a genius idea to make Hogan, already a megastar and the longtime world champion, even bigger. Let’s make him the biggest Hollywood actor, too! Enter No Holds Barred, Hulk Hogan’s first starring movie role and the first movie/wrestling crossover event ever! Oh, and did I mention it featured Friday favorite Tom “Tiny” Lister as the mega heel? Damn right. Let’s go!

Of the many feelings I have about Night Court Season 1 Episode 16, the overriding one is respect.
Despite the admittedly predictable Rand-to-the-rescue and Olivia-wears-the-white-hat solutions to their predicament, they manage to surprise us by subverting the expectation that Dan would stay.
It leaves us wondering mightily what Season 2 might hold in store, and that, my friends, is the sign of a spectacular season finale.
The relationship between Dan and Abby has always been central to this revival.
Whether he's a stand-in for Harry or she's the light to draw him out of his widower's hermitage, they've poked and prodded each other's egos and blind spots with truth bombs until they've become dependent on that regular dose of grump/cheer.
But, as we see here, they haven't grown close enough to take each other for granted or to presume that the other feels as they do.
I'm also mystified why...

Another TV shoot has been disrupted by striking writers, Michelle and Robert King’s supernatural drama for Paramount+ Evil, which has been filming its fourth season at Brooklyn Stages in Brooklyn.
“Evil has met its match,” veteran showrunner (and strike captain) Warren Leight wrote on Twitter at 1 Am Et Sunday alongside a video of three picketers walking in a small circle (you can watch it below). “Studio waited hoping they’d leave, because they didn’t want the headline that 3 guys walking for six hours shut the show down. But that’s what happened.”
Deadline has confirmed that no filming on Evil occurred Friday.
Writer Starlee Kane posted a photo of the trio with the caption “We Won,” reporting that the picketers “kept the crew there for hours, sitting on the sidewalk.” “We felt the solidarity. We’ll win this whole thing together,” Kane added.
A source at the guild confirmed the account.

It took months, but Night Court Season 1 Episode 12 finally switched on a plot device light bulb for me.
Abby's Upstate stories are an updated version of Rose Nylund's St. Olaf tales on Golden Girls. Or Sophia's Sicilian parables. If a show's going to borrow sitcom elements, the Og Gg is one of the best to lean into. (It doesn't hurt that it's also an NBC IP.)
Like Rose and Sophia, Abby's more canny than she lets on, and when she decides to rewrite the rules of engagement, old-school sharks like DeWitt show their toothless tactics are relics of a sad and shameful time.
That's not to say young sharks aren't eager to circle the waters.
Up until the final scenes, Olivia's rabid for a taste of the upper echelon of legal hobnobbing.
She ruthlessly cashes in on Abby's interest in spending some off-hours time with her to get into the club,...

Wendie Malick, Melissa Villaseñor, comedian Pete Holmes and skaters Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski are among the lengthy list of guest stars who will appear on Season 1 of “Night Court.”
“Night Court” is back in session for a reboot of the comedy series that first aired in 1984 for nine seasons. In this new take on the series, John Larroquette reprises his role as narcissistic prosecutor Dan Fielding, with Melissa Rauch (“The Big Bang Theory”) playing optimistic judge Abby Stone, the daughter of the late Judge Harry Stone (Harry Anderson).
“We’re obviously huge fans of the original, and it’s an incredible privilege to get to work in this world and tell stories with these characters,” the series’ executive producer, Dan Rubin, said. “But it’s also a challenge to keep this show its own thing and have it stand on its own two feet.”

Look who’s reporting for Night Court. Producers of the NBC comedy — a revival of the ‘80s series of the same name — announced a slate of guest stars for the show at NBCUniversal’s presentation at the Television Critics Association winter press tour ahead of the show’s premiere on Tuesday, January 17. Those guest stars are Melissa Villaseñor (Saturday Night Live), Wendie Malick (Hot in Cleveland), Pete Holmes (How We Roll), Faith Ford (Hope & Faith), Kurt Fuller (Supernatural), Stephnie Weir (MADtv), Lyric Lewis (A.P. Bio), and figure skaters, Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski, according to Variety. So far, only John Larroquette is returning from the original series — he’s coming back to play Dan Fielding again — though producers told reporters at the TCA press tour that they’re open to bringing back Richard Moll and Marsha Warfield to play Nostradamus “Bull” Shannon and Rosalind “Roz” Russell. NBC’s upcoming “Night Court” revival has set a new slate of guest stars including Melissa Villaseñor, Faith Ford, Pete Holmes, Kurt Fuller, Stephanie Weir, Lyric Lewis, Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski.
The news came during NBCUniversal’s presentation at the Television Critics Association’s winter 2023 press tour, where star and executive producer Melissa Rauch called “Night Court” a “newboot” of the original, which ran on NBC from 1984 to 1992 and starred Harry Anderson as judge Harry T. Stone.
Along with announcing the new guest stars, with character details yet to be announced, producers said during the “Night Court” panel that they would be open to bringing back Richard Moll and Marsha Warfield. Moll and Warfield are the only living cast members from the original series besides John Laroquette, who reprises his role in the revival.
The new “Night Court” follows the late Harry Stone’s daughter, the unapologetically optimistic judge Abby Stone.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Evil Season 3 finale “The Demon of the End.”] After a couple of insane finale cliffhangers — what else would you expect from Evil? — the wait for Season 4 is going to be long. Sure, we’re wondering what the future holds now that Leland (Michael Emerson) used Kristen’s (Katja Herbers) missing egg and they’re going to be parents as well as what’s going on at the end there with Andy (Patrick Brammall) and Dr. Boggs (Kurt Fuller) gathering with the demons (and baby) in the under-construction addition to the Bouchard house. But there are also a few other lingering threads at the end of the season. We turned to creators Robert and Michelle King to get answers in addition to their teases about what’s next after those cliffhangers. What can you say about Season 4? Anything about when it picks up, the threads to keep in mind, a tone?...

Evil, season 3 episode 9 “The Demon of Money” is an installment in motion. It begins in the therapeutic aftermath of a horrific incident and ends on a stunning, violent cliffhanger at the cost of a regular character, who we appreciate far more after the sacrifice.
The episode begins in Dr. Boggs’ (Kurt Fuller) office, where Kristen (Katja Herbers) is having a session on the traumatic scene she witnessed at the end of “The Demon of Parenthood.” All the audience saw of that grisly outcome was Kristen’s reaction to it, and that was enough to supply the terror to the ghastly horrors out of view. “The Demon of Money” supplies several reaction shots, often in tangent with the gore, which are as effective at pushing buttons as any of the frightening images.

Evil, season 3 episode 8 “The Demon of Parenthood” is a mother of an episode. It goes so far over the top in its conspiratorial suspense the entire proceedings veer dangerously close to spoof. The opening scene between Father David (Mike Colter) and Victor LeConte (Brian d’Arcy James) would have worked on Get Smart. The circuitous language is as audaciously audible in the private confessional as the Cone of Silence at the Chief’s office at Control.
