British character actor who started his screen career in Australia. On stage from 1916, he appeared predominantly at London's West End in musical comedy and farces, including as a pantomime dame.
He died a week after a heart attack.
He was married to, Mary Rigby, a musical, comedy star who was born in 1900 and they had a son, William born in 1927 at which point she retired.
