Producers Anita Jacoby and Sue Maslin, writers Ray Harding and Bevan Lee, and actor Magda Szubanski were among the screen professionals who received Australia Day honours on Saturday.
Jacoby, a former managing director of ITV Studios Australia and head of development and production at Zapruder’s Other Films, was named a Member of the Order of Australia (Am) for her significant service to the broadcast and print media, and to community mental health groups.
An authority member of the Australian Communications and Media Authority (Acma) and a board director of AFI | Aacta, Jacoby has worked in the industry for more than 30 years. Her extensive list of credits include The Gruen Transfer, Enough Rope, Hungry Beast, Angels and Demons, 60 Minutes, and the Today Show. She is a member of Screen Producers Australia (Spa) and a supporter of the Documentary Australia Foundation. In 2013, she established the Jacoby Walkley Scholarship, which supports young journalists.

Cornelia Frances, whose sharp-tongued villainous characters on Australian TV made her a household and international name, has died. She was 77.
Frances died Monday night in Sydney after a battle with bladder cancer, her son Lawrence Eastland told the ABC. She was surrounded by family and friends. Earlier in the week, Eastland had posted an Instagram photo of his mother resting. "She is so peaceful, soft and serene. I truly love this woman," he wrote.

Australian actor Peter Sumner, who portrayed Death Star security officer Lt. Pol Treidum in the original 1977 “Star Wars” film, died after battling a long illness, The Sydney Morning Herald reports. He was 74.
Sumner was best known for his scene in “A New Hope” when he notices two stormtroopers (Han Solo and Luke Skywalker) out of their assigned stations and says, “TK-421, why aren’t you at your post? TK-421, do you copy?” Later, he’s seen being taken out by Chewbacca.
According to the Herald, the actor was traveling in England with his family when “Star Wars” was being cast. He earned £60 a day for two days’ work on the film and forever cherished the experience. He was a regular at fan conventions and replied to fan letters over the years. He later reprised his role of Treidum in the 1999 “Star Wars” fan film “The Dark Redemption.”

Among the formats that could emanate from the partnership are current BBC shows Mastermind, Bargain Hunt and Antiques Roadshow and, from the Beeb.s vaults, The Weakest Link, The Generation Game, Last Choir Standing and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?
The deal also covers Dancing With the Stars if that show is commissioned by the Seven Network or another Australian broadcaster next year.

Home and Away's Cornelia Frances has revealed that she has "good genes". The 70-year-old Australian actress, who left her role as Morag in the soap in April last year, said that she likes to indulge in good food, alcohol and the odd cigarette.
