This remake of Warners’ 1924 John Barrymore feature gives us Elizabeth Taylor in the Mary Astor role, Stewart Granger as the fashion dandy of the Restoration Period, and a scene-stealing Peter Ustinov as a lonely, needy Prince of Wales. The history is still weak, but it at least doesn’t turn Brummell into a typical swashbuckler. Compensating are English actors that can get any script up on its feet, and Liz Taylor’s blue-violet eyes. And the Oswald Morris cinematography improves greatly on the MGM house style.

According to Clyde Fitch Report, Close reportedly turned down the highly sought-after role of 'Helen Sinclair' in the upcoming stage adaptation of Woody Allen's Bullets Over Broadway, starring Zach Braff. As previously announced, Allen turned down stage legends Patti LuPone and Bernadette Peters, both of who reportedly auditioned, and is now leaning towards casting Marin Mazzie, who took on the role in the recent readings of the production.

You can always count on veteran Broadway scribe Leonard Jacobs for some jolting opinions, but he really comes out swinging with his Tony Award predictions that he shares with Gold Derby. Prevailing "wisdom" says best play will be "Next Fall" or "Time Stands Still," but Leonard fearlessly waves a "Red" cloak, matador style. Also, he pooh-poohs the common view that "Memphis" will win best musical. He believes that smart money is on "American Idiot," which was the early front-runner, but then stumbled when its director, actors and choreographer weren't nominated. Check out Leonard's blog Clyde Fitch Report, which is cleverly based on the persona of a now-obscure U.S. playwright who was a superstar in the...

"Stop fidgeting!" Emma Thompson chides Dustin Hoffman, who can't seem to sit still. The energetic 71-year-old actor is in constant motion, whether looking for a pen so he can write down movie recommendations, re-enacting a pivotal scene from The Graduate, or stealing soap from the hotel bathrooms (more on that later). Hoffman takes her good-natured scolding in stride and promptly sits down next to her on the couch and behaves. It would appear that in addition to her acting and writing skills, Thompson can also direct. The duo first met on the 2006 film Stranger Than Fiction, and Thompson reveals that when she first saw her co-star, her world came to a standstill: "I thought, 'There's Dustin Hoffman. And I'm going to be working with him. How extraordinary that is.' You didn't realize how much I loved you as an actor. Or maybe you did, maybe you assumed. And rightfully so.
