Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre is an action thriller movie directed by Guy Ritchie, starring Jason Statham, Aubrey Plaza and Hugh Grant.
Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham became famous worldwide with a movie and years later they are back with another story. This time around, it’s not at all like the one about half-baked gangsters as in the first, but it does have the same spirit that brought them success: quality action cinema, creating excellently directed pure entertainment, with pace, irony and an elaborate sense of rhythm and editing.
An action movie of quality.
Movie Review
A film with quality, it’s nostalgic, it has an unbalanced sense of balance, it’s somewhat over-the-top action in a spy thriller full of puns that knows at all times how to tease the viewer through the pace, with what is expected of Statham as an undisputed action cinema icon, and with...

This year’s Karlovy Vary saw the premiere of a dizzying single-take drama featuring a potent lead performance from Graham as a chef enduring a nightmarish evening
Philip Barantini serves up a single-take headlong nightmare in this drama set in a restaurant, starring the formidable Stephen Graham as an up-and-coming chef called Andy who is running on pure adrenaline, and maybe something more in that water bottle of his. Without any cuts to darkness or a camera flash, Barantini follows the dizzying continuous action in the kitchens and out in the dining room as the pressure begins to take its toll on everyone. And if it looks a bit like TV sometimes, that could be because cookery shows with stressed-out gobby chefs yelling at people are all over television. One of those shows was actually called Ramsay’s Boiling Point.
Andy is seen showing up ominously late for work one evening,...

Like Starz’s “American Gods” before it, Amazon’s newest limited series attempts to adapt the philosophically lofty, theologically-infused work of British novelist Neil Gaiman. In his 1990 novel “Good Omens” (co-written with Terry Pratchett), an odd-couple angel and demon attempt to avert the apocalypse in order to continue enjoying their unusual partnership. Onscreen, this pairing — between a saintly being played by Michael Sheen and a fallen angel played by David Tennant, both seeking to save the world for their own reasons — is the best part of the new “Good Omens” limited series. But it’s not enough: This six-hour journey towards the end of time comes to feel grindingly slow by the end, more anticlimax than fight for Earth’s future.
We meet Sheen’s Aziraphale and Tennant’s Crowley at the very beginning of recorded myth, in the Garden of Eden. Their personalities shake out with crystalline clarity (fitting...
