- Awarded the Polar Music Prize, the Royal Swedish Academy of Music Award, in 1997.
- Acclaimed Swedish conductor and choirmaster.
- He traveled to wartime Switzerland to attend Basel's Schola Cantorum, remaining there through 1949. He undertook additional studies in Sweden, England, America, and Germany. He was appointed Cantor at Stockholm's Jacobskirch in 1949. In 1953, he joined the faculty at the Stockholm Conservatory.
- In 1945, he founded the Stockholm Chamber Choir, an a cappella ensemble which achieved near-legendary status. Equally famous was the Swedish Radio Choir, founded by Ericson in 1951 and led by him until 1982.
