Josh Hutcherson spoke to MTV about his latest acting gig, the remake of 1984's Red Dawn. Hutcherson claims they "blew up all of downtown Detroit last week."
We shot a scene where where we blew the face off this giant building. It was a giant, probably 200-foot high mushroom cloud of flames engulfing downtown Detroit! That was really cool.
The original Red Dawn was also violent, despite having a young cast including Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, and Lea Thompson. Hutcherson plays a character "based on C. Thomas Howell's character, Robert" that is "sort of a tech guy" that, by the end of the movie, becomes "a total warrior, drinking blood from the animals and going crazy." Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck, and Isabel Lucas round out the cast.
The experience is clearly one that Hutcherson is enjoying.
Everybody's loving it and loving the new story line. We've changed up quite a bit of stuff. »

This week:
Over the weekend the box office Saw some Paranormal Activity; Carl Ellsworth was hired by Paramount but he wants C.O.D (Cash On Delivery); True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten is Griff the Invisible; Derek Mears gears up for Predators and Laura Dern Meets Stiller and family.
Wow. It looks like the Saw franchise has finally come to a grisly end. The sixth film in the horror franchise opened with 50% less than what was predicted, earning a not-so-good $14.7 million. The film probably only cost about $15 million to make, but this poor gross means that it’ll have to have some serious overseas takings to make new installments viable.
The flipside to Saw’s demise was the $22 million that Paranormal Activity took over the weekend - from a thousand less screens than Saw!
With a cost of approximately $11,000 (yeah, you read that right) it looks like Oren Peli’s »

Screenwriter Carl Ellsworth has been hired by Paramount Pictures to rewrite C.O.D., an action-thriller that currently doesn't have a director attached to it. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter (because that's what they do, report on stuff), C.O.D. is about a NYC bike courier who has to deliver three live bombs or else another will go off and take out his family. Why can't terrorists just pay bike couriers like everyone else? I guess that's part of what makes them bad guys.
DreamWorks bought the C.O.D. script in March 2008. When Dw split from Paramount, one of the projects that Paramount got custody of was C.O.D. The original script was written by Lars Jacobson. Barry Josephson (Bones, Aliens in the Attic) and former movie executive assistant Neal Flaherty are producing.
Ellsworth got his screenwriting career off to a start with a produced episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. That was followed »

Red Eye and Disturbia screenwriter Carl Ellsworth has been hired to rewrite C.O.D. (ie Cash On Delivery, non-acronym-users), the thriller about a New York City bike messenger forced to deliver bombs to three locations lest one of those be locations be his family home! (Cue dramatic drum-roll, look of horror on Our Hero's face)The catch in this film is that an entire nation is looking for him, as well as the authorities, to stop these bombs getting through. And probably that his lycra shorts are giving him a wedgie*.We kid, of course; we're just trying to get a handle on the idea of an action hero with a cycling helmet (and he better be wearing a helmet, or we're going to have to write a strongly worded letter to Hollywood about encouraging dangerous cycling). The script was originally written by Lars Jacobson and sold in 2008, but the rewrite suggests that someone, »

Jeffrey Dean Morgan, perhaps most notable for playing The Comedian in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen adaptation, is joining the cast of the Red Dawn remake.
Variety got the scoop on Morgan’s role in the film, which seems somewhat unnecessary:
“‘Red Dawn’ follows a group of teenagers who band together to fight back when their home town is invaded by an joint force of Chinese and Russian soldiers. Morgan will play the leader of the U.S. Special Forces team who discovers the teens’ stronghold while behind enemy lines.”
The film is being directed by talented stunt coordinator and unproven film helmer Dan Bradley, from a script by The Last House on the Left scribe Carl Ellsworth.
The film is scheduled for release on September 24th, 2010. »

Chicago – Dennis Iliadis’ brutal and accomplished remake of Wes Craven’s influential horror classic “The Last House on the Left,” now available on Blu-Ray and DVD, deserves a much better home release than the typically reliable Universal/Rogue has delivered for horror fans this week.
Blu-Ray Rating: 2.5/5.0 Despite decent reviews, “Last House” disappointed at the box office, but it will find a loyal audience on the home market and they’ll be angry at the scant special features that don’t even take advantage of Universal’s best recurring feature, U-Control and provide no insight into a complex and daring film. Far inferior horror films are regularly getting lavish two-disc Blu-Ray sets filled with special features. There’s nothing fair about HD.
Last House on the Left was released on Blu-Ray on August 18th, 2009.

Josh Hutcherson, Isabel Lucas, Connor Cruise and Edwin Hodge have all joined the cast of MGM's remake Red Dawn as the four join the already cast Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck and Adrianne Palicki. The film is a remake of the 1984 actioner about a group of teenagers who form an insurgency referred to as the Wolverines when their town is invaded -- this time by Chinese and Russian soldiers. The remake is expected to follow a similar plot thread telling the story of a group of teenagers who form an impromptu insurgency when their town is invaded by Chinese and Russian soldiers. Entertainment Weekly offers the following breakdown of the new cast: Josh Hutcherson (Journey to the Center of the Earth) is Robert Morris, the Wolverines' tech geek, responsible for operating all the communications devices.
