- Vanessa Downing is an Australian actress who's career has encompassed voice over roles, theatre, singing and a career in law whilst balancing that and her acting career. Downing is best known for her roles on Home and Away (1988) as the first Pippa Ross, working on the series for two years before departing in 1990, whilst the role of Pippa went to another actress the show continued to use both actresses likeness throughout the series which included the use of photos and episode recaps. Downing would appear in other series such as Motormouth (1988), G.P. (1989), Water Rats (1996), she would also appear in the spin-off series Bullpitt! (1997) which lasted for two seasons working alongside Ross Higgins and Peter Whitford, she portrayed the character of Muriel, she would also appear in All Saints (1998) and many more shows.
Vanessa would later balance her career whilst studying law and appearing in the Sydney Theatre Company regularly at the same time.

- When informed of acceptance for her role of Pippa in Home and Away (1988), she was working as a singer in a six piece accappella group called The Madrigals.
