Shirley Douglas was born on April 2, 1934 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Canada. She was an actress, known for Dead Ringers (1988), Wind at My Back (1996) and Lolita (1962). She was married to Donald Sutherland and Timothy Emil Sicks. She died on April 5, 2020 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Daughter of Irma May (Dempsey) and Tommy Douglas, Saskatchewan Premier from 1944 to 1961, the first Leader of the NDP, from 1961 to 1971, and the founder of Canada's Medicare.
Was involved with the Friends of the Black Panthers; a fund raising organization. In 1969 she was arrested for conspiracy to possess explosives. She had attempted to buy hand grenades for the Black Panthers. She spent five days in jail for the hand grenade incident and was subsequently denied a work permit and was forced to return to Canada.
Organized a meeting concerning possible private health care, in
