"Rocky IV" held the mantle as the highest-grossing sports movie for decades, solidifying its status as one of the best entries in the storied franchise that has followed Rocky Balboa from the hard streets of Philly to the cold mountain tops of Siberia. The Oscar-winning original, and "Rocky II" to an extent, kept Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) grounded in an inspirational drama about a determined underdog who defied all odds to get a shot at the title. In "Rocky," the Italian Stallion went from a publicity stunt for Apollo Creed to being reevaluated as a serious contender. The public at large and the entire sports world woke up to Rocky Balboa and they were suddenly forced to take him seriously.
The audience watching "Rocky" already knew his true character way before he ever entered the ring, because we saw the struggles of his solitary, lonely life and the internal battles he was already fighting.

Leo Birenberg and Zach Robinson, composers on the hit Netflix show “Cobra Kai,” are hosting a one-night only ticketed concert on June 23 at the Troubadour titled “Enter the Dojo: The Music of Cobra Kai Live.”
“We can’t wait to rock out yet again with the ‘Cobra Kai’ fan base,” Birenberg said.
“This is a show you’ll never forget,” Robinson added. “Prepare your faces for melting.”
Birenberg and Robinson have composed the score for each season of the show, including the upcoming fifth season. Their work mixes heavy metal with 80’s synthwave sounds to create a unique blend of orchestral rock. Together, the duo aims to encapsulate the original sound of “The Karate Kid” with a modern twist.
Birenberg’s music is also featured in Hulu’s “PEN15” and Netflix’s “Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.” He has also scored the Disney+ superhero film “The Secret Society of Second Born Royals,...

Rocky IV remains a prototypical example of 1980s American franchise filmmaking, having conveyed a patriotic Cold-War-evocative ethos through the lens of superhuman pugilists pummeling each other over revenge and world peace, all to Vince Dicola’s absurd synthesizer-led score. Oh, and lest we forget, it had a robot! While those attributes entitled the 1985 film to the smug dismissal and earnest appreciation of posterity, star/writer/director Sylvester Stallone’s upcoming director’s cut risks erasing its allure.
Stallone, who announced his plan for a new Rocky IV cut last year, has completed his redux of the famous franchise‘s four-quel. However, unlike that other director’s cut dominating current conversations, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Sly’s upcoming Rocky IV Director’s Cut is an update of a film that was properly released by its director. Having premiered back on Nov. 27, 1985, Rocky IV was a box-office-topping hit for studio MGM,...

Mighty Rabbit Studios’ Saturday Morning RPG has recently been released on Nintendo Switch, having originally released on iOS back in 2012. This episodic role-playing game is set in a world heavily inspired by Saturday morning TV and pop culture of the 1980s. With references to Transformers, Back to the Future, He-Man, and even Michael Jackson, the game offers an incredibly entertaining throwback and an experience where you can re-live your childhood memories.
Players step into the shoes of Marty, an average high school student who gains incredible power thanks to a magical ‘Trapper Keeper’ notebook given to him by The Wizard. Using everyday objects as weapons, Marty then begins his quest to defeat Commander Hood and save the world.
You start the game in a typical ‘80s living room, complete with wood panelled walls, VHS tapes, and an analog TV. Presented as ‘episodes’, each chapter has its own main quest as...

If you're a fan of the original animated Transformers: The Movie, you've got to watch this video in which a Transformers-themed band by the name of The Cybertronic Spree perform the classic song "Dare" by Vince Dicola and Stan Bush. As you can see, the band awesomely dresses up as characters from the 1986 movie. I've never heard of this band until now, but I'm an instant fan! I also included another video of the band performing the song "Nothin's Gonna Stand in Our Way." Enjoy the videos!

In my mind, the original 1986 Transformers: The Movie is the best Transformers movie ever made. I don’t care what anyone says. I loved that film, even though they killed off half of my favorite characters within the first 30 minutes. When I was a kid I was lucky enough to see it on the big screen at a special screening for some of the cast and crew members. I’ll never forget that experience. The movie just oozes '80s awesomeness.
I’m excited to report that Shout! Factory and Hasbro Studio are teaming up to release a special Blu-ray and DVD to celebrate the film’s 30th anniversary. I seriously can’t believe that it’s been 30 freakin’ years!

Whilst doing a spot of channel surfing the other day, I found myself lured into the 80’s classic Teen Wolf, and I had forgotten just how much I love the so-cheesy-it’s good basketball montage at the end. It struck me that, even now, there’s something so satisfying about seeing a character that we’re really rooting for overcoming some kind of adversity, or solving a problem, set to the soundtrack of a dodgy power ballad/synth track.
So, without further ado, here are five of my favourite montages of the 80’s. Prepare to be roused!
1- Teen Wolf
To fill you in, if you’re not aware, Michael J. Fox’s character, Scott, has up until now been ‘Wolfing Out’ which ironically means that not only does he become cool and all the popular kids like him, it also makes him an ace basketball player in the process...

With the resurgence of movies based on toys in recent years, it was high time to reach into the past and dust off the hidden gem that started it all. Many people who grew up watching the “Transformers” television show will remember that in 1986 Hasbro released a full length animated feature film called “The Transformers: The Movie.” This film contains a fairly predictable “Transformers” plot, meaning it’s convoluted and features loads of meaningless action and prolonged fighting. Awesome.
The movie begins with a cold open: the “camera” casually flies us through the quiet beauties of outer space. Planets, stars, galaxies and celestial debris float peacefully and gracefully through the great black expanse. We gradually close in on a small Death Star-like planet bustling with all sorts of alien robotic life forms. Suddenly, a giant spherical machine, known as Unicron, targets the planet and without warning begins to suck it in like a vacuum,...

12 (Twelve)
Stars: Danny John-Jules, Joey Ansah, Mark Strange, Nathan Lewis, Sophie Linfield | Written and Directed by Chee Keong Cheung
12 follows the brutal story of twelve fighters who are brought together to compete in an illegal underground tournament for the prize of £500,000 should they survive. The fighters come from a variety of backgrounds, each hand-picked for a gruelling no-holds barred competition, intended to push each fighter to their limits. Each fighter has their own reasons for competing and each give everything they have to take the prize… but there can be only one winner!
Remember the first time you watched Bloodsport, or Kickboxer? If you’re anything like me you can remember how awe-struck you were at their sheer brilliance… Well it’s been a long time since an action movie caught my imagination as much as they did. That was until I watched 12. What makes it even more surprising to...
