It seems a new vampire is joining the brood over at the CW in the very near future. Entertainment Weekly's Ausiello Files is reporting that Mia Kirshner has joined the cast of The Vampire Diaries. Kirshner will appear in the recurring role of Isobel, the wife of history teacher Alaric (Matt Davis). It was said that she will make her debut in the January 21 episode of the show, an episode which has already been shot. An insider to the site said that "11th-hour reshoots" will take place to fit Kirshner into the show in time. »

Not sure how we missed this story the other day -- I blame holiday festivities and distractions -- but in any event, it looks like The Vampire Diaries has added another recurring character: Mia Kirshner will portray Isobel, the sweet-yet-dangerous wife of substitute history teacher Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis).
The news came down via EW's Ausiello Files Blog, which reports the actress will make her debut in the Jan. 21 episode, which, come to think of it, has already been shot. How will Vd boss Kevin Williamson pull that one off? “Ever hear of an 11th hour reshoot?” sniffs an insider. “That’s what they’re doing.”
Kirshner is no stranger to our genre, particularly as it relates to vampires, having recently been signed to Ben Ketai's 30 Days of Night: Dark Days and previously appearing in Dracula: The Series back in 1990/91.
In addition, according to TV Fanatic, two other new »

Actress Mia Kirshner has been cast in CW's The Vampire Diaries according to EW's Ausiello Files Blog. Ironically enough, she just played vampire Lilith in 30 Days Of Night: Dark Days . On The Vampire Diaries , Kirshner will be playing the role of Isobel, the sweet-yet-dangerous wife of Matt Davis' history teacher, Alaric. The actress will make her debut in the January 21st episode. TV Fanatic reports that Brandon Quinn (Entourage) will be guest starring on the upcoming January episode as well. He'll play a mysterious character named Lee, who series creator Kevin Williamson describes as "a vengeful guy with a score to settle with Damon." Gina Torres will also debut on that episode as a witch named Bree. The Vampire Diaries stars Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley »

Nick Jonas stood up for his brother Kevin at Kevin's wedding over the weekend, and in a couple of weeks he'll be standing in for a slightly older pop-culture icon: Regis Philbin.
Jonas will co-host "Live with Regis and Kelly" on Jan. 8. That's six days after he embarks on a tour with his new band, Nick Jonas & the Administration, and a few weeks before the band's album goes on sale. The "Live" gig will be his first stab at hosting a talk show.
Philbin is on leave from the show while he recovers from hip surgery.
- Starz has given a second-season pickup to its series "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" -- a month before the show begins its first season.
The pickup allows the series, which is produced by Sam Raimi and is based on the Roman gladiator who led a slave revolt, to go back into production early next »

While The Vampire Diaries has grown exceedingly handsome over the last few weeks - with the addition of guest stars Matthew Davis and Dillon Casey - the show is about to throw a beautiful bone to its male viewers.
Mia Kirshner has signed on for a recurring role on The CW hit, as sources confirm to Michael Ausiello she'll play Isobel, the wife of Davis' Alaric Saltzman.
The actress - who has enjoyed extended runs on 24 and The L Word - will debut on January 21, the date on which The Vampire Diaries returns from hiatus... and we know what you're thinking:
Yes, Alaric told Jenna his wife had passed away. Word is she'll be seen in flashbacks because she was killed... by a main character on the show!

Ssssnnnnnnnooooooooorrrrrrrrttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!
Man, that was some good product Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson dealt us last night with The Vampire Diaries, I tell ya. But I will be on serious withdrawal till next year!!!!!! What is a Tvd addict to do?
But first let's recap the cliffhanger episode that gave us a sneak peek of what the rest of the season has to offer. Including a werewolf!!!!!
The Set Up
So we picked up a breath from where we left off last week with a newly vamped Logan trying to enter the Gilbert residence through Jenna, who is not budging. Logan tries harder to work his charm on the lovelorn Jenna, but he screws up by getting to cocky and finds the door slamming in his face. Not deterred, he snacks on the closet thing he could find: a female jogger. I'm still trying to figure out who jogs that late at night… »

A new vampire in town. A likely werewolf revealed. And red hot sex between two main characters.
No wonder this episode was titled "The Turning Point," as The CW drama gave viewers plenty to think about until its return on January 14.
As you mourn the loss of entertaining Thursday nights over the next two months, let's go over the reasons why this was yet another outstanding installment of the best new show on television...
Brothers, united! When the show kicked off, there seemed to be nowhere to go with the Damon/Stefan relationship. The former sucked (literally!), while the latter wanted nothing to do with his brother. But we've seen a (somewhat) softer side to Damon over the last couple weeks; and tonight we got to see the Salvatores team up and battle a common enemy.
They may never truly be on the same side, but a good show finds »

Week in and week out we keep finding more to like about The Vampire Diaries. Whether it's the death of someone we thought was a recurring character or the reappearance of another character presumed dead who's now a vampire, the show never fails to surprise ... and entertain ... us.
Do you share our guilty pleasure? If so, you'll want to check out two new webclips provided by The CW for this week's episode (number 10 already!) "The Turning Point". But first, the synopsis:
After reading the journal left by one of his Gilbert ancestors, Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) is inspired to return to his hobby of sketching fantasy creatures, a talent he had abandoned when his parents died. Much to the surprise of their friends, Matt (Zach Roerig) and Caroline (Candice Accola) continue to hang out together. When Sheriff Forbes (guest star Marguerite MacIntyre) tells Damon (Ian Somerhalder) there has been another attack, »

We have moved on from the cute brooding boy infatuated with the cute popular girl. We are now in scary revenge boy is attacking freaked out witch girl. Lexi a vampire over 300 years old, only comes to see Stefan on his birthday, and she convinced him to go to a party that Caroline (Candice Accola) was hosting at the Grille. Caroline was not sure why she was hosting the party, but Damon (Ian Somerhalder) used his influence to convince her that the party was something she wanted to do. Damon snuck off at the party and killed a man and convinced the girl he was with to pin the killing on Lexi. I have a weakness for grieving men on TV — you experience the vulnerability without having to deal with the palpable pain. Hence me finding Damon Salvatore extremely attractive in this episode. Definitely his best hour to date, and he didn't even murder anyone (though, of course, he tried to). Rather than give a chronological play-by-play, let's examine it story line-by story line. Damon's diabolic plan: The show did a nice fake out making us think since the pilot that Damon just wanted to make Stefan's life miserable. After Elena told Stefan that Damon was terrorizing Bonnie so she'd give back the crystal, »

It's only Monday, but already our thoughts are turning to Thursday night, and The CW is happy to help us get ready for the latest installments of our guiltiest pleasures: Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries.
First up, is Supernatural's Episode 9, entitled "The Real Ghostbusters" (if there's a series with better ep titles, I sure don't know what it is!):
Super fan Becky (guest star Emily Perkins) uses Chuck's (guest star Chuck Benedict) phone to trick Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) into attending a Supernatural fan convention, complete with fans dressed up as Sam and Dean. One of the activities is a live action role-playing game, but things quickly turn sour after a real ghost appears on the scene. Jim Conway directed the episode with teleplay by Eric Kripke and story by Nancy Weiner.

Updated: We just added a second sneak peek
Is it just me or is The Vampire Diaries getting creepier? If the creepiness of Bonnie's dream at the end of the last episode is any indication of what's to come, then I'm on board. We've already posted photos and another batch of promo photos for the November 12th new episode of The Vampire Diaries, which marks the first appearance of new cast member Matt Davis (playing Alaric Saltzman). TheCW has now released a promo and a sneak peek of the episode.

Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) gets a break from the mysterious new history teacher, Alaric Saltzman (guest star Matt Davis, “Legally Blonde”) and introduces Alaric to Jenna (Sara Canning). Bonnie (Katerina Graham) is having terrifying dreams about one of her ancestors.

"The Vampire Diaries" will shift its focus a bit from Stefan's birthday this week to Bonnie's power next week. Bonnie is having terrifying dreams about one of her ancestors. Despite Elena's efforts to smooth things over, Bonnie and Caroline continue to argue over the medallion. When the girls hold a sance to help them decide what to do, the results are stranger than any of them expected.
Meanwhile, Matt comes to Caroline's aid when she needs a friend. Damon finally reveals to Stefan the stunning reason he has returned to Mystic Falls. The episode called "History Repeating" airs on Thursday, November 12.
This would also be the episode where Matthew Davis from "Legally Blonde" guest stars as Alaric Saltzman, the new history teacher who gives Jeremy a break and is introduced to Jenna. In the book the series is based on, Alaric is suspected as a vampire hunter after it is »
