Days after they partially removed the logo from the game, Bungie is explaining why a symbol that has been associated with the "alt-Right" movement found its way into Destiny 2. Essentially, the team says that the "Kek" armor was designed back in 2015 back when the term was less associated with the meaning it brings along with it now.
Bungie's David Dague does note that the armor design was flagged back in development, but notes below that it was only in reference to the fact that the word "kek" derived from World of Warcraft and was frequently meme'd by the 4Chan community.
"Unfortunately, that review was conducted to explore whether or not we were comfortable with the connection to the original, innocuous 'kek' internet meme. The more contemporary, vile derivation that has been repurposed by hate groups was not surfaced through this process, and therefore, the armor was approved for ship."

Bungie currently has all hands on deck for the release of The Taken King expansion – the largest of the DLCs thus far and big enough to warrant a physical release – and ahead of the Twitch reveal of the Dreadnaught Strike tomorrow, a new Destiny teaser for the mammoth add-on has appeared online that even features our first inkling of what Nolan North will sound like in the role of Ghost.
Having supplanted Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage to voice the AI companion – Dinklebot is no more, sadly – it’s understood that North, the industry veteran that he is, will re-record all lines of dialogue for Ghost as Bungie aim to develop the character in a new direction.
More News From The Web
As for tomorrow’s live event, Design Lead James Tsai and Bungie Community Manager Deej (David Dague) will host it, at it will begin in earnest at 11:00am Pacific Time.

In the wake of the generally well-received beta, Bungie has responded to fan concerns over the size and scope of Destiny’s world, after it emerged that each in-game planet will only contain one explorable location.
Though the studio hadn’t confirmed the number of environments up to this point, many users expected each stellar body to boast a variety of playable areas. However, during a recent Twitch stream, the studio’s community manager David Dague confirmed that this was not the case.
“Yeah, we’re calling them destinations,” Dague explained. “You go to Mars, you go to the Moon, you’ve got Venus, and you’ve got Earth.”
Dague also went on to outline the parameters of Destiny’s universe, which will incorporate co-operative and competitive play across those four aforementioned settings. So, in the case of our own home planet, players who venture toward Earth will only be...
