Producer Savita Raj Hiremath’s 2006 Bollywood cult classic “Khosla Ka Ghosla!” is being remade in the Telugu, Marathi and Kannada languages, it was revealed on the sidelines of the Busan International Film Festival’s Asian Contents and Film Market.
Directed by Dibakar Banerjee and written by Jaideep Sahni, the Hindi-language film followed Khosla, a Delhi-based retired middle-class man who tries to get his land back from a swindling property dealer with the help of his sons and their friends.
The Kannada version will be directed by Adarsh Eshwarappa (“Shuddhi”), the Telugu version by Vinod Anantoju (“Middle Class Melodies”) and the Marathi one by Kedar Shinde (“Baipan Bhari Deva”).
“To most Indians building a home in a lifetime is like a dream come true. It is relatable to a pan-Indian audience as property fraud is paramount and witnessed in large measure. Thus the remakes of ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla!’ will be apt...

Foreword
Web series on streaming platforms have warranted a far more emotional investment both for actors in the cast and from the viewers who would try and get involved in the characters. Their sequels, however, are rarely as engrossing as the original first season of episodic developments. And for the same reason, I, for one, am a tad sceptical about watching successive seasons with as much enthusiasm as I am for the preceding ones. Unless it is ‘Made In Heaven’.
Made in Heaven Season 2
This series is a compelling watch and though there isn’t anything spectacularly novel about its storyline, the production values, immaculate writing and superb acting by the entire cast makes it riveting. It represents what present-day India is all about. Conservative on the one hand and modern in many ways with progressive mindsets of traditional people who face conflicting ideas to deal with at every step.

New Delhi, Aug 5 (Ians) Remember the 1987 sports drama film ‘Over the Top’ featuring American actor Sylvester Stallone? The movie revolved around the world of competitive arm-wrestling. Stallone plays the lead role of Lincoln Hawk, a truck driver and professional arm-wrestler, and brought attention to the techniques involved with the sport to the fore.
While the movie did not become as popular as Rocky or Rambo in the USA, in Central Asia, it left a long-lasting impression on the people of Kazakhstan, a part of Ussr at the time.
Interestingly, Sergey Sokolov, Master Referee, World Armwrestling Federation, was among many who got inspired from the movie as a young kid growing up in the Kazakhstan region. So much so, that he decided to take up the sport professionally and become an arm-wrestling referee years later.
For Sergey, who is currently donning the hat of Master Referee at the inaugural edition of Pro Panja League,...

To introduce the movie I want to quote IMDb: “A Delhi based retired middle class man tries half-heartedly to get his land back from a swindling property dealer with the help of his sons and their friends.’’ But, this synopsis hardly contains the movie. In my opinion, it is actually a great heist movie in the history of Indian cinema rather than a drama. Though, it is not a conventional good-old-fashioned heist movie as I’ll explain later.
The movie is directed by Dibakar Banerjee and it won the National Award for best film in the year 2007. What is it that makes me watch this movie again and again and again? Here are some of the reasons out of many.
The movie develops around a time when the capital city of India was on the verge of an expansion, due to a huge population boom.

When a society goes through trouble and art becomes a subject of censorship and freedom of an artiste gets curtailed, that complexity produces the best art, says National Award-winning filmmaker Sudhir Mishra.
"Art gets better if the society is troubled. When a society is going through trouble and transformation, the art gets created from the complexity. I will not sit down and complain about how the freedom of an artiste has been curtailed down by authority. There are countries where people are telling stories and finding their way to create their art despite the red eyes of authority," Mishra told Ians.

Actress Tisca Chopra, who is making her digital debut with web series "Hostages" and also gearing up for her directorial venture in Bollywood, says high quality production and content in the web space is keeping filmmakers on their toes to deliver good cinema.
"The way the web space is booming, films have to be reinvented by the makers. In the web space, makers are not looking for a hero-heroine story. They are looking for stories that are engaging," Tisca told Ians.
Bollywood, said the "Taare Zameen Par" actress, was still chasing a formula.
"The big change is that, in recent times, none of those formula films have worked well at the box office. Rather, films like 'Badhaai Ho', 'Stree' and recently 'The Tashkent Files' earned good reviews and considerably good business. That way, I think digital entertainment is changing the face of cinema," she remarked.

Director: Nila Madhab Panda, Writer: Deepak Venkateshan, Actors: Lehar Khan, Krishang Trivedi, Harsh Mayar, Parvin Dabas etc.
Nila Madhab Panda deserves accolades for presenting an issue-based film in an entertaining and gripping manner. Jalpari, based on the issue of female foeticide, maintains a fine balance and never goes overboard preaching the cause. In fact, it weaves it cleverly into an adventure thriller which successfully drives the message home and is palatable to children and adults alike.
Shreya Singh is the tomboyish protagonist of the film who is brave, imaginative and adventurous. She goes on a holiday to her ancestral village with her father, grandmother and younger brother. Shreya, after performing a mermaid dance in school, is on a quest for a pond in the village where she can swim like a mermaid. But her ancestral village is one marred with severe scarcity: of water and women. Sources of water have...

Though the possibility of Richard Gere featuring in his future project seems to overshadow everything else that’s worth talking, there is a lot this filmmaker has to tell. Nila Madhab Panda has taken the indie route and tasted success with his debut feature film I Am Kalam. And he is now ready with his next film Jal Bin Jal Pari (The Desert Mermaid). Life after I am Kalam: One successful film doesn’t change your life. But yes things have become a lot easier. My producer (Sushilkumar Agrawal of Ultra Group) just heard the concept of The Desert Mermaid and decided to invest in the film. He put his complete faith in me because he had liked I Am Kalam.

Parvin Dabas’s debut as writer-director Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande was a stirring tale of a group of galat bandes finding their conscience and working for a big cause. Ekdum sahi hai, boss! As Anna Hazare – God bless his revolutionary soul – shifts from Tihar to Ramlila Maidan, our cinema has made a far more gradual movement from the ‘arty-unintelligible’ grammar of Mani Kaul to the ‘arty-accessible’ language of Parvin Dabas’ film.
This is the land of Shyam Benegal’s social inequalities where politicians pitch their self-interest higher than the good of the country.
Not every do-gooder is a Hazare. Sometime you just have to make do with a benign goon like Rajbir (Parvin Dabas) who breaks legs (shot on mobile phone) and extorts money for his surrogate-father (Sharat Saxena, in his usual excellent form). When Ranbir and his three socially-questionable friends set their hearts on saving their village farmers’ land from urban land-sharks you know this is the land of Sholay brought into the political consciousness...

Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande has all the ingredients of an action film: exciting chase sequences, punchy dialogues and an edgy style of filmmaking. But in a time when every other film claims to be edgy and gritty, what sets this film apart is that it claims a territory rather unexplored in contemporary Indian films which suffer from a distasteful homogenization of cultures and characters. Parvin Dabas in his directorial debut has created a desi action film, mildly funny and replete with the rawness and a feel of the milieu he comes from; a Jat family in Kanjhawala town of Delhi.
