Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey star in the Showtime series “Fellow Travelers” as lovers who meet in the ’50s at a time when homosexuality is still outlawed, and whose tumultuous relationship continues through the ’80s.
The emotional drama, which is based on the 2007 novel by Thomas Mallon, encompasses the McCarthy hearings, the war protests of the ’60s, the decadent disco ’70s and the AIDS crisis.

The trick to engaging a worldwide audience for "Titanic," ABC's miniseries premiering Saturday, April 14, and concluding the next night on the 100th anniversary of the ship's sinking, is to go beyond the tragedy's basics.
Everyone knows how a series of worst-case scenarios led to the sinking of what was supposedly the best and most luxurious ocean liner ever. The goal is to tell this story in a new way.
And "Titanic" succeeds terrifically. This isn't trying to be James Cameron's "Titanic," the 1997 phenomenon that captured 11 Oscars. There have been so many films and documentaries, but this one stands apart.
Granted, the facts must stay the same, but what this production does is blend actual and fictional characters and show the disaster from different vantage points. It's a masterful reimagining by writer Julian Fellowes (Academy Award for "Gosford Park," Emmy for "Downton Abbey").

Linus Roache has joined a new ABC drama pilot from Independence Day's Roland Emmerich. The project focuses on Carter (Max Thieriot), a science student who learns that he is the chosen one to destroy the forces of evil. Batman Begins star Roache will play Senator Teras, an enigmatic politician with ambitions for the White House, according to Deadline. The actor played Michael Cutter on Law & Order from 2008 to 2010 and recently reprised the role on spinoff Law & Order: Svu. Chris Meloni isn't mentioned by name in this preview of "Law & Order: Svu's" new season, but he still looms large.
Meloni's Elliot Stabler has apparently gone Awol at the start of the season, and his absence is weighing on his long-time partner, Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay). Into this environment step new Svu detectives Nick Amaro (Danny Pino) and Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish), and from the looks of things Amaro in particular has a bit of a rough go at first.
You'll also see ADAs Alexandra Cabot (Stephanie March) and Casey Novak (Diane Neal) back in action, as well as former original recipe "Law & Order" star Linus Roache reprising his role as Michael Cutter, who's now a bureau chief in the district attorney's office.
"Change is good," Hargitay says at one point in the video. We'll see whether that holds true when "Svu" premieres at 10 p.m. Et Wednesday, Sept. 21.

Franco Nero will be guest starring in the season premiere of Law & Order: Svu according to TV Guide. He will play an Italian dignitary who is accused of rape in a case similar to the Dominique Strauss-Kahn scandal. This will likely serve as the first case for the new detectives being introduced this season played by Danny Pino and Kelli Giddish. The two new cast members are being brought in as replacements for Chris Meloni and B.D. Wong who have both left the series.
Strauss-Kahn was a front-runner for the French presidential election when he was accused of sexually assaulting a maid in Manhattan (no, not the Jennifer Lopez movie). Sk pleaded not guilty and his entire career was basically ruined. Life sucked for Sk. But then there was the big twist that his accuser may have lied about the attack because Sk had lots of money she could get her hands on.

Both Law & Order: Svu and NCIS have cast some minor roles in their respective new seasons. According to Kabookit, Bryan Friday will be playing “Navy Captain Wright” in what appears to be the third episode of Season 9, titled “Nature of the Beast.” Friday has had plenty of minor roles in shows like CSI, Days of Our Lives and even a couple older NCIS episodes. On top of regular acting, Friday also does stunts. He actually does more stunt work than acting. I bet he’s got some pretty awesome scars. And if he does, that means he’s probably picking up more ladies than he can handle. Lucky guy. He’s living the dream while we just sit here and watch.
Less excitingly, Alana Jackler was cast in Svu as… Park Mom. Her episode appears to be called “Yin & Yang.” Jackler isn’t known for much, just some short films.

A couple of new TV castings to write about. First things first, Chuck has been snagging up pretty good names all off-season for its farewell and final season to the fans. Currently, Mark Hamill and Carrie Anne Moss will have big roles this season. Now Smallville‘s Green Arrow star Justin Hartley is heading to ‘Chuck.’ Hartley didn’t reveal any character details, just that he was filming a guest spot. [Justin Hartley/Twitter]
I really like Hartley and I am glad he is getting some post Smallville work. I hope it shows some networks that he is good for other stuff. My guess is he will play a spy, ex-spy, Sarah’s little brother, friend. Who the hell freakin’ knows, but it is definitely some nerd bait for the last season of a very loved series. Hartley isn’t the first Smallville star to appear on the series. Kristin Kreuk, who spent eight seasons playing Lana Lang,...

Just because the original Law & Order series is over and done with doesn’t some of it’s characters can’t cross over to Svu, as is the case with Ada Michael Cutter, who will be making an appearance in the 13th season premiere of Svu on Sept. 21. Cutter, played by Linus Roache, first appeared in Law & Order’s 18th season and was on the show until the very last season. It looks like Cutter has received a promotion to be Bureau Chief of the Da’s office, which is a title that allows him to oversee all Special Victims Unit cases.
“I am very happy to be bringing Michael Cutter back to life and exploring how he has evolved into his new position of being a bureau chief and possibly even a mentor,” Roache said. “I think Special Victims is going to be an area where Cutter’s passion...

Finding a dead body in a fireplace is not my idea of fun, but if it means I get to spend some time with my favorite Detective-Sergeants and Crown Prosecutors, I’m all for it. Thus begins “Buried,” an adaptation of 1991′s “…In Memory Of.”
The body is that of a young boy named Tommy Keegan, who went missing twenty-five years earlier. Brooks and Devlin reopen the case to find out who murdered him. Unfortunately for them, the original investigation was more like a vendetta against the openly gay neighbor, Edward Connor. It’s up to Ronnie and Matt to cut through the bias of the times and find the truth. I particularly adore Matt’s verbal sparring with the original investigator while Ronnie tries to be diplomatic. Both of them can see the bigotry and aren’t going to let it slide.

Let’s be honest: last week’s premiere of Law & Order: Los Angeles was dismal. However, this week saw Terrence Howard’s debut in the lead District Attorney role, Teri Polo (Sports Night) starting her recurring role as Rex’s wife/former partner, Jay Karnes (The Shield) as a defense attorney, and Michael Massee (24) playing a creepy cult leader, so it had to get better, right?
It’s not encouraging when the show hasn’t learned from the outcry and reinstated the classic opening; instead, we get another tired pop song. Clunky dialogue abounds (“You’re around decent people now,” says one character in the definition of flat line reading) before Rex and Tj find a stabbing victim who was previously a member of a cult called the Echo Park Tribe. Rachel Ticotin (Con Air) makes her first appearance as the boys’ new boss, giving us all the exposition we...

NBC aired its final "Law and Order" episode last night, quietly ending the run of the show tied for the longest running drama in television history. It was a tepid episode, ripped from stale headlines and featuring an atypical subplot concerning the personal life of one of its characters, Lt. Anita Van Buren (not that she didn't deserve it, being the longest-running cast member on the show).
"Law and Order" has bounced around on NBC schedule a lot these last few years, and hasn't been the ratings powerhouse it once was for NBC before "L&O" copycats like "CSI" came along (not to mention the "L&O" spin-offs). Like anyone who likes quality television, I've been watching "L&O" off and on for two decades. The last few years, like its first year, were the weakest of the show's run. When Law & Order debuted in 1990, only CEOs had cell phones and Sam Waterston was just the guy from The Killing Fields. For the next two decades, through several rotating casts of cops and lawyers, the show proceeded to build a whole universe of shadowy intentions and cross examinations. If you’re like me, you were never a regular viewer, but you still somehow managed to watch literally hundreds of hours of Law & Order. And so, you’re probably feeling just a little twinge of sadness at the news that NBC has canceled the venerable cop show.
Law & Order is practically an American monument.

Chicago – As the late, great Sophia Petrillo of “The Golden Girls” might have philosophized, “Picture it: September 13, 1990.” When “Law & Order” premiere, “The Internet” and “Email” were barely words, “mobile phones” looked like portable hair dryers, and Google, Yahoo, and AOL weren’t even gleams in Bill Gates’ eyeglasses — let alone Twitter, MySpace, Facebook, and YouTube. HBO and Showtime had yet to produce A-list hour dramas, and F/X, TNT, AMC, and USA had yet to produce anything more than the occasional TV-movie at all.
Although it enjoyed considerable acclaim, few film or TV critics would have predicted on that Tuesday night that a gritty, dark crime show with no A-list movie or TV names — slotted against the pop-cultural buzz-saw that was “Thirtysomething” — would still be the toast of television almost twenty years later. But “Law & Order” beat the odds to not only survive, but thrive during the past two decades,...
