Canada’s leader in animated pre-production is teaming up with one of France’s premier animation studios in a bid to address the chronic shortage of storyboard artists on the market.
House of Cool is lending its expertise to France’s Ecole Cartoucherie Animation Solider (Ecas), a free-of-charge non-profit CG animation school established by TeamTO in 2018, to expand its scope to storyboarding.
The brainchild of TeamTO founder and president Guillaume Hellouin, Ecas has trained some 95 students over the past three years. Nine out of ten have gone on to work in the animation industry. All are offered a contract at TeamTO and most choose to work there, while some have taken on jobs in other studios in France and Canada.
For Hellouin, House of Cool was the obvious partner when it came to creating the new course. “They are the pre-production gods in feature film – they’ve been working on a bunch of blockbusters.

When to expect all the upcoming live action fairytale movies, including Dumbo, Beauty And The Beast and two Jungle Books…
You’ve probably noticed the influx of live action fairytales gracing cinemas in recent years. This isn’t about to stop any time soon, since re-spinning a recognisable fantastical yarn with real people instead of animated ones always makes big money for the studio behind it.
This process has become so popular that there are currently more of these live action fairytales in production than Marvel Studios, DC Entertainment or Star Wars movies. That’s a lot of films. (A whopping 21 by our count.)
Although it wadsn’t the first movie of this kind, Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland – and its worldwide gross of over a billion dollars – can surely take the credit for kick-starting this trend. Here are all the in-development movies trying to repeat its success,...
