That John Major is one mighty hunk of man-meat,” said no one but Edwina Currie probably. Watch The Crown this season, though, and you’ll be foaming at the mouth in minutes over Britain’s most boring Pm. See, Major – who absolutely, categorically did not advise Prince Charles on whether to force his mother’s abdication in 1991, thank you very much – is played in The Crown by Jonny Lee Miller, an actor so flagrantly good-looking that even dressing him up in geeky spectacles and a floppy grey wig can’t extinguish the heat.
Inappropriate sexiness is The Crown’s métier. Here is a show that thought the perfect person to play famed demonoid Margaret Thatcher was Gillian Anderson, knowledge of whose overt, indubitable sex appeal has been passed down the generations like some kind of erotic folk tale. Prince Charles has been played by both the prolifically allergic-to-clothes Josh O’Connor and,...

Matt Hancock is not the first politician to enter the Australian jungle for I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here.
The new series, which begins on Sunday (6 November), will see the former health secretary, who resigned in 2021 after violating his own Covid regulations, join the new batch of contestants a few days in.
His participation in the series has been condemned not only by fans, but by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who said on Tuesday (1 November) that, rather than competing in a reality series, MPs “should be working hard for their constituents in the House or in their constituencies”.
But Hancock is not the first politician to have entered the jungle.
Metropolitan Police deputy assistant commissioner Brian Paddick kicked off the wave of MPs being asked to take part, signing up in 2008. He finished in seventh place. Former Labour MP and Mep Robert Kilroy-Silk also participated in that year’s series,...

Lewis Capaldi has revealed that he has been diagnosed with Tourette’s syndrome.
On Tuesday (6 September), the 25-year-old singer went public with his diagnosis because he didn’t want his twitching to be misinterpreted.
Tourette’s is a condition that causes a person to make involuntary sounds and movements known as tics.
“I wanted to speak about it because I didn’t want people to think I was taking cocaine or something,” Capaldi, who is releasing a new single on Friday 9 September, said during an Instagram live session.
“My shoulder twitches when I am excited, happy, nervous, or stressed,” he added. “It is something I am living with. It’s not as bad as it looks.”
Capaldi isn’t the only famous musician who has Tourette’s syndrome.
Earlier this year, Billie Eilish opened up about living with the condition during a new in-depth Netflix interview.

Phillip Schofield has responded after a clip of a This Morning call-in game resulted in widespread disapproval on social media.
On Monday’s (5 September) edition of ITV’s daily lifestyle programme, Schofield and co-host Holly Willoughby played a game “Spin To Win”, in which viewers can win a randomly selected prize from a wheel.
One of the new additions to the prize list, along with cash, was the programme covering the winner’s energy bills for four months as a way to help with the cost of living crisis.
Monday’s caller ultimately won the energy bills prize and audibly reacted with relief as he described dealing with his current bills as “absolutely murder”.
After the clip was uploaded online, thousands of people used social media to express shock that energy bill payment was being offered as a prize, with many calling the state of affairs “dystopian”.

Jimmy Bullard definitely doesn't want to see former campmate Gemma Collins re-entering the jungle, arguing that "she had her chance and she bottled it".
The former footballer and I'm a Celebrity star - fronting upcoming London Live sports series Jimmy Bullard Kicks Off - reacted to rumours Collins could be back on the ITV reality show by incredulously replying to Digital Spy: "No way, really? How did she get called back - she didn't last four minutes?!
"I disagree, I don't think she should be allowed back. She's had her chance and she bottled it."
Recalling the moment when the ex-towie star entered the main camp after the group was split into two, Bullard remembered: "The thing with Gemma - the camps were separated and she came into the main camp which I was in and she had a bit of a breakdown.
"So then she started crying on me of all people.

It's the clash of the titans in Digital Spy's exclusive clip from Celebrity Benchmark, as Jimmy Carr takes on Joey Essex.
Paddy McGuinness hosts the celebrity edition of the Channel 4 game show, which launches a five-part series tomorrow night (September 26) at 7pm.
Jimmy and Joey appear to be very competitive in the game, which could see one celebrity winning up to £50,000 for charity with the help of ten famous 'benchmarkers'.
Joey does have a point though - the question in the video above isn't totally clear and we call shenanigans.
Vic Reeves, John Thomson, Lesley Joseph and Edwina Currie are among the other celebs taking part in the series, which follows its civilian daytime edition earlier this year.

The 36-year-old Italian professional dancer tied the knot in Co Monaghan's Castle Leslie, with guests including former Strictly partners Louisa Lytton, Dani Harmer and Edwina Currie, and ex-I'm a Celebrity stars David Emanuel, Matthew Wright and Rebecca Adlington.
Speaking about seeing his bride for the first time, an emotional Simone enthused to Hello: "I felt incredibly emotional and was worried I wouldn't keep it together. I couldn't look back at Susan as she walked up the aisle because I was afraid I would dissolve into tears.
"She looked so beautiful, really breathtaking."
The couple - who have two young children together - told the publication that their first dance was to Ronan Keating's 'This I Promise You', with Simone adding that Susan suggested he perform it with one of his Strictly ex-partners.

Ed Balls won't be swapping the lobby floor for the dance floor, as Yvette Cooper has confirmed her husband won't be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing.
The former Labour shadow chancellor had been linked with the BBC One show in recent weeks, after losing his House of Commons seat at the May 2015 general election.
Labour Party leadership candidate Cooper told journalists at a press gallery lunch that Balls will not be showing off his fancy footwork on primetime television this autumn, joking that it would "conflict with filming in the jungle".
However, before you assume that Ed will be getting acquainted with kangaroo balls on I'm a Celebrity instead, that's probably not likely either.
The former MP for Morley and Outwood confirmed yesterday that he's accepted a senior fellowship at the Harvard Kennedy School's Mossavar-Rahmani Centre for Business and Government.

Joey Essex and Jimmy Carr will take part in celebrity specials of Channel 4's Benchmark.
Other stars include Amanda Byram, Vic Reeves, Lesley Joseph, John Thomson and Mark Watson.
James Haskell, Edwina Currie and Jason Byrne will also feature.
Each of the five specials, airing on primetime, sees one celebrity hoping to win up to £50,000 for their chosen charity, with help from the ten 'Benchmarkers'.
The Benchmarkers must answer tricky numerical general knowledge questions, with their answers setting the benchmark. The main contestant then has to decide whether the correct answer is higher or lower.
Host Paddy McGuinness said: "You've got the genius of the show itself, combined with the mayhem involved when you throw a bunch of celebrities into the mix. It's going to be brilliant.
"The only thing I'm worried about is how long the recordings are going to take. That, and getting a word in edgeways.

"I'm feeling great. I had an amazing time in the jungle, but I can't believe it's all over. I've learned a lot over the last three weeks, but I can't wait to get back home now. It was one of the most amazing, powerful and inspirational things I've ever done in my life."
Did you know much about I'm A Celebrity before you flew to Australia?
"I knew nothing about the show. I came in blind. Completely blind!"
Why did you sign up for a show you knew very little about?
"I'm a wuss.

The group were given superhero outfits to wear during the trial, with Melanie Sykes claiming to feel "a bit of a wally in it".

The remaining I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! campmates spoke about their jungle highs and lows in tonight's show (December 6).
Edwina Currie got the ball rolling by comparing the experience to "childbirth".
"When I first entered the jungle, I had no idea how I was going to cope," she admitted. "Nothing compares to it, apart from childbirth perhaps.
"I think I knew I was definitely going to be one of the mouthy ones. Almost immediately, I found myself in a row. Kendra went pow. She was a lot less aggressive after that."
Edwina then turned on her frisky side and shared what she found was the best bit of nature.
She said: "I've loved being here admiring nature, trees, breeze. The best bit of nature, of course, is blokes with relatively little on. Absolute bliss."

Edwina Currie is the latest campmate to leave the I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! jungle.
She follows Tinchy Stryder and Kendra Wilkinson, who left yesterday (Friday, December 5).
When asked by Ant and Dec how she felt about leaving the camp, Edwina joked that she had been crossing her fingers as they made the announcement.
Edwina added that the jungle was "completely different" to what she expected, saying: "I thought it would be horrible and was prepared to grit my teeth and do it, but they were a terrific bunch of people.
"Physically, it was very hard - I had done a fair bit of camping but not like this."
Edwina had clashed with both Kendra Wilkinson and Melanie Sykes during her time in the jungle, claiming that Kendra was selfish after hearing her discuss with Michael Buerk what it was like to live life in front of cameras.

Vicki Michelle was the fourth celebrity to be evicted from the jungle on Thursday night's episode of I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!. The comedy actress, who leaped into the spotlight as Yvette Carte-Blanche in the iconic 1980s comedy 'Allo 'Allo, faced her fears alongside the likes Edwina Currie and Kendra Wilkinson in the jungle reality show. Here are her jungle highlights…
How are you feeling, Vicki?
"I will never forget my jungle experience, but it feels fabulous to be out in the real world. It was much harder than I thought it would be - but in a weird, sadistic, masochistic way it was fun. We were living in a rainforest. I woke up every morning thinking, 'I'm living a life that I'd never have at home'."

The campmates were treated to alcohol and played a game called One Lie, Two Truths on tonight's (December 5) I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here.
Each camper had to announce three random facts about themselves, but one had to be a lie.
When it was Edwina Currie's turn, she declared: "I've got a first class degree; I used to work for Arthur Anderson the chartered accountants; I lost my virginity on bonfire night, which really made the earth move."
The first class degree 'fact' was the lie, meaning the other two were truths.
Jake Quickenden joked about her losing her virginity on bonfire night, laughing: "So you were literally a banger on that night!"
Edwina reminisced about that night, regaling: "I remember cycling home, feeling a little queasy and all around me I could hear bang bang and I thought, 'yeah, that's it.'"

Edwina began to unbutton her shirt, much to the surprise of Jake, who asked her if she was stripping already.

We had Edwina Currie down as a lot of things prior to her entry into the jungle, but seriously randy was not one of them.
The former MP has surprised fellow campers with her saucy behaviour and open sex chat, with ex-jungle dweller Jimmy Bullard dubbing her a "right little flirt" and Carl 'Foggy' Fogarty adding succinctly: "She's right rampant."
"You can imagine her and her husband going for it like you won't believe." Alright, that's quite enough, Foggy.

You're welcome!

"I thought the regime was hard but the people were better."
He also said that the lack of food was hard to deal with, reflecting: "It's amazing how it alters your mood. People get down when they are hungry."

Edwina Currie and Melanie Sykes argued over the role of men after Edwina put Carl Fogarty forward for the latest trial on tonight's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! (December 3).

Ex-mp Edwina suggested it "sounded physical", at which point Mel volunteered. Kendra Wilkinson also offered to do it, but Vicki Michelle sided with Edwina and thought Jake Quickenden or Foggy would be best.
Mel got cross as she reminded the others: "Hang on, me and Kendra said we wouldn't mind."
"Bearing in mind we want to eat tonight..." responded Edwina.
This prompted an irritated Mel to ask Edwina if she thought she wouldn't be capable of the task, adding: "You should believe in the sisterhood. You're a strong woman."

The camp's debate about the battle of the sexes continued as Melanie Sykes and Kendra Wilkinson discussed Edwina Currie on tonight's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! (December 3).

Jake quipped: "I'll do it, it's a man's job."
Mel also joked: "Oh sorry, I forgot, 'Know your place Sykesie, know your place!'"
Edwina Currie was still digesting Mel's comment earlier as she pondered in Croc Creek: "It could be a generational thing. It's just the idea, I find it so bizarre.
"These beautiful women in their 40s are saying, 'I don't need a man'."
Mel and Kendra were also busy discussing Edwina and Mel's previous conversation about men, with Kendra concluding that it was similar to the argument...

Elsewhere, Edwina Currie and Tinchy Stryder won each other's messages, Vicki Michelle won Michael Buerk's, Carl Fogarty won Jake's and Nadia Forde successfully got Foggy's.

Melanie Sykes and Edwina Currie contributed to tension in camp in tonight's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!.
Mel was missing Jimmy Bullard, who became the first celebrity to be voted off the show on Monday (December 1), as he also served as her sous chef.
As the camp were treated to an octopus dinner following Michael Buerk and Vicki Michelle's seven star win from their completion of the Deadly Dunking trial, Edwina offered her help with the cooking.
But Mel turned it down, which immediately created a bad atmosphere in Croc Creek.
Edwina and Vicki began chatting about Mel, with Vicki saying: "She doesn't like people interfering."
The former MP added: "Sometimes she's too much of a control freak."
Mel became frustrated and walked off to a secluded area on her own. But it wasn't long before Kendra Wilkinson, who was down from missing out on her letter from home,...

Edwina Currie was mumbling her frustrations to herself about fellow camp-mate Kendra Wilkinson on tonight's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here (December 1).
The former MP was sitting alone in Croc Creek as she discussed the behaviour of her fellow jungle dwellers, musing: "My body says just have a rest. So that whatever happens this afternoon, and something will happen this afternoon, I'm ok.
"Jake [Quickenden] is doing the same. He's sunbathing. I don't wanna do that."
On broadcaster Michael Buerk and actress Vicki Michelle, she continued positively: "Michael's busy. Good man. He likes to keep himself busy. Vicki's actually in better shape than she was yesterday. She's a trooper is Vicki."
Her ruminations were then disturbed by Kendra Wilkinson chatting elsewhere, who could be heard mid-conversation saying: "Anything you want, maybe a signed DVD from Giorgio, anything, I'll get it done..."
Edwina pondered aloud crossly: "Do you think...

Edwina Currie has surprised fellow camp-mates with her unexpected flirtatious behaviour on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here tonight (December 1).
Melanie Sykes revealed: "Edwina has surprised me. She's very open and very free about her sexuality."
Jimmy Bullard joined in as he joked: "Edwina is a little flirt. When you're doing press ups and sit ups, Edwina's right there saying 'you don't mind me watching you, do you? Oh, I like this'."
Even Edwina herself had to agree as she said: "It was quite exciting. I could feel my pulse racing."
She later complimented Jimmy's physique as she enthused: "Would you be insulted if I said you've got the most marvellous legs?"
Irish model Nadia Forde admitted that Edwina was not what "she had expected from a Tory politician".
Before long Edwina revealed to the camp that she's long been a "cougar", saying: "Since I was in my early twenties,...

We were rooting for Jimmy Bullard in the jungle after he wormed his way into our affections with his sense of humour (who could forget his faux humping with Edwina Currie in the pool?), his seeming compassion for fellow camp-mates and his blossoming bromance with Foggy.
But all of that was scuppered for us on Saturday night's (November 29) I'm a Celebrity when the former footballer took "banter" with Jake Quickenden to an unnecessarily bitchy and unpleasant level.
The sour exchange began when Vicki mistook Jimmy for 68-year-old Michael Buerk - which, come on, is funny and something Jimmy could have easily laughed off or been self-deprecating about.
If you can't take the piss out of yourself, then frankly, how can you claim to be the best at "banter"? It's dependent on being able to send yourself up - otherwise it's just glorified bitching.
Jake did what most of us would...

Tinchy Stryder, Melanie Sykes, Carl 'Foggy' Fogarty and Jimmy Bullard are the first celebrities up for elimination on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!, after losing the tribal Terror Tomb challenge.
In the trial, the Galah and Wombat tribes were faced with identical tombs in two different locations. Each of the celebrities had to spend 15 minutes inside coffins within the tomb, with the aim of sticking it out longer than a member of the opposite team.
After the 15 minutes were up, a key dropped into each of the coffins, and the celebs would race to find a hidden lock which would then turn on a light and they would be released.
Michael Buerk, Vicki Michelle, Kendra Wilkinson, Nadia Forde, Edwina Currie and Jake Quickenden won the majority of three rounds and were awarded immunity.
So Foggy, Jimmy, Melanie and Tinchy face elimination, but who do you want to see leave the show?...
