You know the old joke about what kinds of music they play at a certain bar? It goes something like this: “We play both kinds of music . . . Country and Western.” See, that’s funny because those are the same thing . . . never mind. Still, the intent of the joke applies to the worlds of Sci-Fi and Fantasy.
As in, we like ‘em both here at The Flickcast. We also tend to watch a lot of TV. So, how do we combine those two things together and, more importantly, figure out which shows are worth watching and which aren’t? Fortunately, over at Sci-Fi Wire, they’ve done the hard work for us and compiled a list of every Sci-Fi and Fantasy show we could possibly watch this Summer.
Some of the shows they highlight in the article that we’re looking forward to are listed below. For the complete list, be »

Chicago – Lionsgate and After Dark Films’ recently released their third collection of “8 Films to Die For” and this year proved to be the most uninspiring octet to date. With fewer risks taken than the last two years and less extreme failures or successes, “After Dark Horrorfest III” is terrifyingly dull.
Overall DVD Rating: 2.0/5.0 What makes this year’s collection rather forgettable is the lack of extremes on either side of the rating spectrum. The first two years produced some truly excellent genre gems including “Borderland,” “The Hamiltons,” and “The Abandoned.” At the same time, movies like “Dead Lake,” “Undead,” and “Nightmare Man” should be buried in a deep hole and never see the light of day again.
I have to admit that I liked the variety in quality of the last two years more than this year, when nearly every film registered as forgettable more than good or bad. There was one notable standout, »

This fall, ABC is bringing us director Mike Rohl's (Smallville, Eureka, Supernatural) epic apocalyptic 2-part mini-series event called Impact and we've got the trailer for ya! It's full of all the mass CGI destruction and over-acting you've come to expect so enjoy.
While the entire world watches the largest meteor shower in 10,000 years, a brown dwarf, hidden by the meteor field, smashes into the moon in a tremendous explosion of rock and debris. Fragments of the moon itself, penetrate Earth's atmosphere and make impact. Even though the initial damage is minimal, nerves are frayed throughout the planet. Then strange anomalies begin to manifest themselves on Earth. It starts small - cell phone disruptions, unusual static charges and odd tidal behavior. Then, gravity on earth is effected.
The world now has 39 days to stop it or Earth, and all of mankind, will perish!

Although it deals with the hot-button topics of religion and suicide, there’s never a sense that From Within is aiming for gratuitous provocation, or wearing its issues on its sleeves. It’s a straightforward, back-to-basics horror drama that looks great—not surprising given that it was directed by the gifted cinematographer Phedon Papamichael. Yet he doesn’t let the imagery overwhelm the movie either, employing an eye-catching naturalistic palette that gracefully segues into menacing mood. Papamichael stated at the film’s Tribeca Film Festival premiere that horror isn’t necessarily his thing, but he proves here that he sure can direct the heck out of a scare setpiece.
Indeed, the movie starts off with a literal bang, as a young man shoots himself on the outskirts of the village of Grovetown, and the Gothed-out Natalie (Rumer Willis, daughter of you-know-who, in a brief but vivid turn), who was with him at that moment, »

ABC has secured the rights to the German made miniseries “Impact” that stars David James Elliott, Natasha Henstridge, Steven Culp and James Cromwell and is directed by Michael Rohl (”Eureka”). The story tells the classic tale of a meteor gone wild. After the big piece of space rock slams into the moon, the moon dominoes it’s way to Earth. Not secure on the science behind all this, but it’ll make for some good explosions with some excellent consternation and hand wringing. In the age old traditions of hurtling space rock epics, look for fingers and faces pointed to the heavens while mini meteors make way too shallow reentry’s and swiss cheese New York City, or maybe Berlin. So what makes director Mike Rohl's upcoming apocalyptic two part mini-series, Impact, different from other post Deep Impact giant-rock-from-space films? Why, gravity fluctuations of course! It's actually kind of a cool concept. What if the moon got hit by a meteor (or a "brown dwarf" as the below synopsis calls it, heh) and not the earth as we're so used to seeing? How would such a cosmic misstep effect us here on the planet? Yes there's a certain Armageddon quality to the story as scientists send a team up to the moon to try and figure out how to fix the problem, but with its focus on people trying to cope with the disruptions of earth-bound anomalies, Impact might just prove to be an interesting addition to the ever growing genre.
We should be learning more about Impact soon as the 14 million dollar production has recently been completed. It »
