Three + Out Fails To Make U.K. Top Ten

29 April 2008 12:03 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

British comedy Three And Out has flopped at the box office, failing to reach the top ten in its first week of release.

The movie follows the story of a train driver - played by Mackenzie Crook - who discovers he will be fired if he has three fatal accidents within a one-month period.

But the film - directed by Jonathan Gershfield - has attracted controversy in the U.K, with drivers of London's Underground trains picketing the premiere, claiming it trivialises suicide.

The movie has taken just ($378 908) GBP189,454 to open at number 12.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall - starring Kristen Bell and Russell Brand - topped the chart, taking $3.5 million (GBP1.75 million) in three days.

Jessica Alba's The Eye is in second place with takings of $1.4 million (GBP704,655), while Kevin Spacey's gambling drama 21 dropped from the top spot to number three.

Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey's treasure-hunting adventure comedy Fool's Gold was in fourth place, down from number two taking ($952,532) GBP476,266.

In Bruges, a black comedy about two hitmen starring Colin Farrell and Ralph Fiennes, was at five with takings of ($816,096) GBP408,048.

Three And Out Bosses Launch Legal Bid

28 April 2008 9:06 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Latest: The distributor behind new movie Three And Out has launched legal action against London Underground (Lu) for its "derogatory" comments about the film.

Worldwide Bonus Entertainment (Wbe) has responded to Lu managing director Tim O'Toole's comments that the film is in "poor taste".

The movie follows the story of a train driver, played by Mackenzie Crook, who discovers he faces the axe if he has three fatal accidents within a one-month period - although he will receive a huge financial pay-out to compensate him for the job loss.

Last week (ends25Apr08), drivers of London's underground trains picketed the London premiere of the new comedy claiming the film trivialises suicide.

O'Toole wrote in an internal memo to staff: "Clearly the film does not reflect reality and is in poor taste in attempting to make a suicide event 'funny'."

He also claimed the Lu could not "control the script or scenes shot".

But a spokesman for Wbe says Lu was paid $400,000 (GBP200,000) in location and advertising fees for the film.

The representative confirmed it had taken the first stage of legal action by notifying O'Toole and Lu of its intention to sue.

Arterton's Smoking Sex Scenes

22 April 2008 12:12 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Gemma Arterton and Mackenzie Crook were so nervous about filming sex scenes together for their new movie Three And Out, they chain-smoked throughout the shoot to calm their anxieties.

The 22-year-old actress admits she turned to nicotine to help her get through the harrowing experience.

She says, "It was petrifying. I think it's one of the hardest things I've ever done. It was my first love scene so it was terrifying.

"We both got through it by smoking away in between each take."

And the star - who is completely topless in one bedroom scene - is happy for her parents to watch the film, although she won't be sitting down with them.

She says, "I don't mind my parents watching it. It's awkward but they're Ok with these things."

Crook Unprepared By Gervais For Pacino Movie

22 April 2008 9:23 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

British actor Mackenzie Crook was unprepared to work with "intense" movie great Al Pacino, because he had spent so many years under the laid-back direction of his The Office co-star Ricky Gervais.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star worked on two series of the hit British comedy and admits that Gervais - who wrote and directed the TV show - was an easygoing boss, who let the cast joke around on set.

Crook insists it was a big shock to go from The Office to starring alongside Al Pacino in 2004's adaptation of The Merchant of Venice.

He says, "Pacino was so intense and would have us up till the early hours rehearsing our lines over and over.

"Gervais, on the other hand, shuffles around the studio carpet building up static charges on his shoes before creeping up and giving us electric shocks."

Crook's Parenting Advice From Depp

22 April 2008 9:23 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

British actor Mackenzie Crook will always be grateful to his Pirates Of The Caribbean co-star Johnny Depp - because the Hollywood star gave him plenty of useful parenting advice.

The pair met on the set of 2004's Finding Neverland, and Depp recommended Crook to play the role of one-eyed pirate Ragetti in the Disney blockbuster trilogy.

Crook reprised his role in the two sequels and became close friends with Depp throughout filming.

And the former The Office star admits Depp - who has two children with girlfriend Vanessa Paradis - was constantly dishing out tips on child care.

He even recommended that Crook cut the umbilical cord when his wife, Lindsay, gave birth to their first child in 2003.

He says, "He's (Depp) a pain in the arse. He's a family man, he adores his family over everything else and he told me what to expect and gave me some good advice."

Arterton: 'Craig Is Best Screen Kisser'

22 April 2008 12:22 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actress Gemma Arterton has confessed she preferred her onscreen kiss with Daniel Craig than her clinch with Mackenzie Crook.

The 22-year-old shared a screen kiss with Crook during their new movie Three and Out - but the star reluctantly admits Craig has a better technique.

She says, "They can't be compared. They're very different scenes. One is tender and loving and the other is passionate.

"Asking me to choose which one I'd date is so unfair, that's horrible. I'd rather go out with someone completely unknown and obscure.

"But Daniel's probably more my type because Mackenzie's quite nervous. He was lovely though and the scene was very romantic.

Arterton is currently shooting new Bond film Quantum of Solace with Craig.

Tube Drivers To Picket Premiere

17 April 2008 12:03 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Drivers of London's Underground trains are set to picket the premiere of new comedy Three And Out - because the film trivialises suicide.

The movie follows the story of a train driver, played by Mackenzie Crook, who discovers he faces being fired if he has three fatal accidents within a one-month period - although he will receive a huge financial pay-out to compensate him for the job loss.

But the U.K.'s Aslef union has urged its members to distribute leaflets at the London premiere on Monday to make it known that they are not happy with suicide being made fun of.

The leaflets read, "As you are munching your popcorn, please take a moment to think about all those people for whom railway deaths are a tragedy, not a comedy."

Crook's Offal Stage Invasion

25 March 2008 5:00 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Pirates Of The Caribbean star Mackenzie Crook's career as a stand-up comedian reached an all-time low when a disgruntled audience member fired missiles at him - shaped from a raw liver.

The British actor - who shot to prominence in the U.K. version of TV sitcom The Office - was performing in Birmingham, England, on the same bill as a magician who left the offending offal on stage following his act.

The liver was quickly snatched by an unsatisfied customer, who ripped it to pieces and fired it at Crook as he launched into his poorly received routine.

Crook recalls, "Someone actually threw raw liver at me at a really tough place.

"The act before me was a gross-out magician, who did an illusion where he pulled out his own liver, then left it on stage."
