As Fire Country's second season continues to heat up, the show's central characters are being put through the wringer like never before.
And that means, of course, that the series' stars are facing new challenges in terms of heart-rending drama and pulse-pounding action sequences, some of which are unlike anything that's ever been attempted on network television.
We recently had the opportunity to sit down with Jordan Calloway, who plays firefighter Jake Crawford, for a conversation about his character, his career, and what the future holds for Fire Country.
Jordan, of course, is no newcomer to the world of television.
He got his start on the Nickelodeon sitcom Unfabulous way back in 2004, and his role on Black Lightning made him an important figure in the CW's Arrowverse.

Fire Country is a show that lives up to its name in every episode.
The action sequences are unlike anything we've seen on network television before, and the writers do an impressive job of tying the show's interpersonal drama into the storylines about trapped campers and raging wildfires.
And that's a very good thing, because for all of the effort that goes into realistically portraying those towering infernos, we get the sense that it's the relationships that really keep viewers coming back for more.
In case you've fallen behind (and haven't been reading our Fire Country reviews! For shame!), passions have been burning as hot as a five-alarm blaze in the show's second season.
But not always in a good way.
There's plenty of romance, but it's largely overshadowed by angst.
Obviously, there's no drama without conflict, but these days, we're rooting for the writers to show a little sympathy to this show's fledgling lovebirds.

When Fire Country Season 1 Episode 22 aired way back in May of 2023, its controversial conclusion left fans divided.
The debut season of the hit CBS drama dragged its protagonists through hell and delivered some surprisingly satisfying character arcs -- only for the season finale to bring us right back to where Bode Leone's story began:
Bode's decision to take the fall for a drug ring landed him back behind bars and left viewers with the feeling that Fire County Season 2 might wind up rehashing the redemption narrative the show already explored in Season 1.
So, after a much longer-than-usual hiatus owing to the writers' and actors' strikes, did Fire Country Season 2 Episode 1 find a way to keep things fresh?
Well, the opening scene whips us around -- is Bode a free man already?! Has he earned his father's approval?! -- before revealing that we're in the well-trodden territory of the dream sequence.

CBS' surprise hit show finished its first season run, and it has been a season full of ups and downs.
Fire Country Season 1 delivered entertaining hours of television thanks to a great storyline, characters, and emergencies.
That's not to say it didn't have some flaws, and in our season report card, we look at some of its strongest suits and ways it can improve into Fire Country Season 2.
Early reviews of the show pegged it as another firefighting drama that couldn't quite measure up in a landscape full of shows in the same genre in every major broadcast network.
And while that might be true to some extent, what sets it apart is the perfect balance between character development, action, and stellar writing.
Best character development - Jake Crawford
In the early episodes, Jake and Bode went through a nemesis stage. They had been friends, but Riley's death and Bode's...

It's always interesting when a show delves into unknown territory.
At first glance, Fire Country seems like your typical, run-of-the-mill firefighter drama.
There's the captain that's a bit too harsh to his teammates, the firefighters that make life on the team enjoyable, and the memorable trail-blazing fires.
But there's one thing Fire Country has that others currently on air don't -- the Cal-Fire Conservation Program.
The real-life program takes nonviolent prisoners into minimal custody 'fire camps,' supervising them on calls out-of-county or on local assignments.
Most accepted inmates are paid upwards of five dollars a day for their help, earning practical skills and respect for what the hard workers around them do for a living.
For such a highly respected organization, it's a wonder why no other creator has decided to pitch the idea before.
It's also a wonder why it took CBS so long to do it.
