- After her brilliant critically-acclaimed performance as Ophelia to Laurence Olivier's Hamlet in the1937 Old Vic production in London she was amazed to learn that she was to be replaced by Vivien Leigh, Olivier's secret lover and soon-to-be wife, when the company was invited by the Danish government to perform the production at the Kronberg castle in Elsinore.
