More great photos from the upcoming Rob Marshall’s musical “Nine” have been released.
“Nine” following a film director named Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis) who is in his middle age. He is trying to complete his next film. His main problem is that he has too many women in his life – Luisa (Marion Cotillard) his wife, Carla (Penelope Cruz) his sexy mistress, and Claudia (Nicole Kidman), his muse and protege.

Marshall’s move is based on the Broadway musical of the same name written by Federico Fellini and Ennio Flaiano. The screenplay for the movie was written by late Anthony Minghella and Michael Tolkin. So, the Broadway musical and the movie are adaptation of the book by Arthur L. Kopit.

A reader who has seen Nine already, was invited to another preview screening. The luck of some people, I swear! He couldn't make it a second time but he did share the promotional text which read like so

Robert Doisneau's famous photograph of a couple kissing has inspired a quirky new short film. Janine di Giovanni talks to its director
Yvan Attal is talking about one of the most famous images of Paris – Robert Doisneau's 1950 photograph, Le Baiser de l'Hotel de Ville, in which a young couple are locked in an embrace as all of Parisian life swirls around them.
This week, French actor-director Attal, 44 (and son-in-law of the late, great French singer Serge Gainsbourg), launches his own tribute to Paris, its lovers and its street life. His three-minute YouTube film, Kisses from Paris, features two beautiful young actors making out all over the city; it's as if Doisneau's couple have returned – and updated their kiss for a new generation. They speak in English, while on the soundtrack Rufus Wainwright sings a melancholy tune.

- Think of her as this year's Marion Cotillard. Showcased in Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, French thesp Melanie Laurent might have made further strides in the English language film sector - landing a part in Mike Mills' Beginners (currently shooting in Los Angeles). Also on board, is Goran Visnjic (Helen) who I imagine will be playing Christopher Plummer's younger lover. I imagine that Laurent would play Ewan McGregor's significant other or perhaps a hospital worker? The storyline sees Ewan McGregor play a young man rocked by two announcements from his elderly father (Plummer)…one, that he has terminal cancer, and two, that he’s coming out of the closet.... »

Daniel Day-Lewis looks like he’s enjoying his leading male role in the upcoming film “Nine,” and what red-blooded male could blame him? The double Oscar winner is surrounded by fellow Academy honorees Penelope Cruz and Marion Cotillard in this still from the hotly anticipated new musical "Nine," based on the Broadway show of the same name that scooped five Tony Awards back in 1982. Ddl, the only male star in the film, portrays a world famous film director in the 60s who has a professional and personal midlife crisis as he approaches his 40th birthday. And he’s surrounded by a phalanx of women, including a wife, mistress, muse, confidant and other assorted hangers-on. The film is directed by Rob Marshall, who helmed the film version of the musical “Chicago” a few years back. You’ll remember that “Chicago” was an Oscar darling, winning a Best Picture Oscar among other nods, »

While Meeka and Lulu Bella Tatum hung out with Chan's mom stateside this Halloween, Channing Tatum (in Scotland to film 'Eagle of the Ninth') and wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum celebrated All Hallows Eve in full burlesque regalia at Club Noir's Halloween bash at O2 Academy in Glasgow, Scotland.
Club Noir is officially the world's biggest burlesque club, and prides itself on its world-class, innovative variety shows with vintage music and beautifully costumed performers. Jenna tweeted a pic to show us her makeup a few days ago, but we didn't get any pics of the elusive Mr.Tatum...until now that is.
Thanks to the UK's Daily Mail we have a picture of the beautiful couple at the sold out Halloween Burlesque event this weekend where Chan and Jenna celebrated with approximately 2000 revelers. You can read the article from today's paper below...

Got to admit I was a little under whelmed when watching this at the cinema. The main problem I found was the complete lack of pace and strangely for a Michael Mann film the editing was sub-par. I felt the narrative suffered a lot on the big screen. I was very disappointed because this was coming from one of the greatest filmmakers in America over the past decade.
Fortunately Public Enemies works much better on the small screen. The story of John Dillinger and the obsessive manhunt that took place is actually a very intimate one. The film has epic qualities but overall it really is just a story about one man that blurred the lines between criminal and hero.
Johnny Depp as always gives it his all; he captures the human being behind one of the most interesting figures in crime history. Christian Bale is well cast »

“I like baseball, movies, good clothes, fast cars and you. What else do you need to know?”
Public Enemies is Michael Mann’s first venture into true-life territory since 1999’s The Insider. He has long been a master of slick fictionalised crime – his CV is a roll call of criminal capers and cops. The first twenty minutes of Public Enemies is this familiar Mann – the man who made Heat, Collateral and Miami Vice is here you think. The screen, the very room filled with slick staccato sights and sounds. It is cool; it looks period but feels contemporary, fast paced; a jail break, a bank heist, bang, bang, rapid-fire images, bang, bang. A car crests a hill with the robbers on the running boards clutching hostages to them, pretty girls, big guns, devil-may-care men; Gangsters. It explodes out of the screen burning with the same white-hot intensity that Mann believes »

We haven't seen anything yet. Or not much of it at least. Particularly when it comes to Oscar's Supporting Actress race. With so many presumed giants on their way whose cast lists tilt female (Nine, The Lovely Bones, Up in the Air, Precious) it's quite possible that not one future Oscar nominee has arrived in theaters yet. That's kind of a shame for those of us who enjoy actresses year round.
If you had a ballot sitting in front of you right now, for example, and the only films that were eligible were films that had already opened (at least on the coasts -- we'll cheat and include next week's Precious) which supporting performances would be on your ballot? The pickings might be arguably slim but I'd probably choose from these ten. Which boxes would you check off?

At the beginning of the year when the buzz for Precious had just begun, Gabourey 'Gabby' Sidibe seemed like no more than a long shot. Mo'Nique's tour de force as her monster mom hogged the buzz and Sidibe had several disadvantages: fat, unknown, minority. The Best Actress category, more than any other acting category, is obsessed with beauty, stardom and whiteness*. [Tangent: the DeGlam phenomenon is also connected to the beauty preference. In a perverse way it's still all about the beauty that the voters are aware the famous actress is hiding].
The New York Times Magazine.
Now that I've seen Precious (see previous post) I can safely say that the Academy won't pass over Sidibe come nomination morning (February 2nd, 2010). It helps tremendously that in real life the first time actress is very different than her character.
When Sidibe is interviewed you quickly realize that the only thing she shares with her character is that plus sized body. She's articulate, educated and appears to have a far more lighthearted soul. This immediately dispells the dismissive (though not always incorrect judgment »

Leonardo was back in his suit Thursday to keep working on Inception. Instead of hanging out on solid ground with Ellen Page, Leo was up and perched on a ledge opposite Marion Cotillard filming his own stunts. Leo's no stranger to having beautiful costars, and he may have another big name as his leading lady soon - he's rumored to have been approached to star opposite Angelina Jolie in Ridley Scott's new Gucci project. There may be an absence of news on a third Batman movie but there's no shortage of casting suggestions and fan debate over who and what should be in it.
Whether any of it comes true is another matter, but it's interesting - and fun - to speculate and make those wishlists for the possible next instalment.
I recently reported that Marion Cotillard was a top choice to play Catwoman in the superhero fan community.
Among other villains' names being thrown around is Poison Ivy, previously portrayed by Uma Thurman (pictured right) in 1997's Batman & Robin.
It seems fairly unlikely that director Nolan would use the character in his third Batman movie but, nevertheless, fans are pondering possible actresses to play the part.
While Eva Green leads one forum poll, followed by Scarlett Johansson, another name put forward is Rachel Nichols.

As you may know, this Rob Marshall directed film is loosely based on Fellini’s 8 1/2. It tells the musical story of film director Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis) who’s facing a mid-life crisis. As he struggles to complete his latest film he examines his career, his life and the relationships with the various women in it.
If the quality of a film can be judged by the quality of its behind the scenes featurette, then I can safely say that Rob Marshall’s Nine is going to be one heck of a film. I’ve also included some new pics from the film as well which further illustrate just how great this movie is going to look.
Put all that together with the stellar cast and Marshall’s unquestioned ability to execute terrific musicals and Nine looks to have all the making of a hit. Be sure to check out »

There is a lot of scuttlebutt going on about Rob Marshall's "Nine." Some positive, some negative, but much of it is tied to the seemingly never ending soap opera of the Weinsteins and their publicly noted financial troubles. And yet, so far, the ultra-experienced Harvey has been smooth and steady as the movie musical's Oscar campaign heats up. One of the main reasons the film became an immediate Oscar contender when it was announced in 2008 (i.e., "Oscar bait") is because the cast includes a laundry list of past winners and nominees including Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard,... »
