2K Games have announced that they are set to continue their relationship with WWE, following the successful release of WWE 2K16 at the end of 2015. The partnership is set to continue with a “multi-year extension,” which will see 2K Games maintaining the exclusive rights to produce WWE licensed titles.
The announcement, which was produced by both parties, presented itself as somewhat of a love-in as the two companies spoke of how content they were with the arrangement. 2K Games confirmed they’ll continue working on the WWE 2K series, as well as committing to the future of WWE SuperCard as their Chief Operating Officer explained their pleasure at the committed future:
2K’s partnership with WWE over the past three years has resulted in a successful and important addition to the Company’s portfolio of profitable franchises.

2K Games purchased the license to produce games for WWE last year after the prior license holder, Thq, filed for bankruptcy in December of 2012 and subsequently went out of business. Thq had a long-standing deal with WWE, dating back to their first game for the company, WrestleMania 2000, in October of 1999.
Since 2K Games’ purchase of the WWE license, they have released WWE 2K14 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 systems. Now, the company is gearing up for the release of WWE 2K15 on October 28th of this year. While anticipation for the wrestling simulator continues to build, 2K quietly released a mobile game just one week ago.
WWE SuperCard allows players to build a deck consisting of various WWE superstars and train them to improve their stats. Players can then use their decks to compete in exhibition matches and King of the Ring tournaments, earning more cards along the way. 2K...

One of the many questions left unanswered after Thq’s bankruptcy auction last month was the fate of their deal to publish video games based on the WWE license. Take-Two confirmed last week that they had signed a deal for the license, however, it required court approval before it would be official. Today the publisher has revealed that they have received the high sign from the courts, and have entered into an “exclusive multi-year agreement” that gives 2K Games “worldwide rights” to publish the WWE video game franchise. The first game to result from Take-Two’s agreement will be WWE ’14, which is scheduled to launch Fall 2013.
