Wamg Talks Sinister 2 With Ciarán Foy, Shannyn Sossamon, James Ransone and C. Robert Cargill [Video]
Sinister 2 is the chilling sequel to the 2012 sleeper hit horror movie, that is in theaters now. Recently, I sat down with stars Shannyn Sossamon and James Ransone, as well as director Ciarán Foy and writer C. Robert Cargill. Check it out below!
In the aftermath of the shocking events in “Sinister,” the evil spirit of Bughuul continues to spread with frightening intensity. The new story is a scary, suspenseful race against time to save a family from falling prey to the madness, movies, and murder conjured by Bughuul and his foot soldiers, the ghost kids.9-year-old twins Dylan and Zach Collins (portrayed by real-life brothers Robert and Dartanian Sloan) have been spirited away by their mother Courtney (Shannyn Sossamon of “Wayward Pines”) to a rural house in Illinois.
The home and property are just isolated enough to evade Courtney’s estranged husband Clint (Lea Coco), who has abused her and Dylan.

The 2012 horror hit Sinister gets a sequel, but does it retain the power to terrify? Here's Mark's verdict on Sinister 2...
Nb: This is a spoiler-free review of Sinister 2, which includes plot details about the end of the first film. If you haven't seen the original Sinister, proceed with caution.
How many horror sequels exceed the scare factor of the first film? You can probably count them on one hand and unfortunately, despite offering stronger characters and a more emotionally resonant story, Sinister 2 falls among the far more numerous cases of diminishing returns in horror franchise history. It's deeper, but not scarier.
For those who are unfamiliar with Sinister, the first film was a unique spin on the found footage horror genre, in which Ethan Hawke's true crime novelist Ellison Oswalt literally found footage of grisly murders that had taken place in his new house and copycat...

'Sinister 2' poster. 'American Ultra,' 'Hitman: Agent 47' and 'Sinister 2': Weekend box office bombs American Ultra, Hitman: Agent 47, and Sinister 2 are the new entries at the North American box office this weekend, Aug. 21-23, '15. All three of them are expected to underperform – with American Ultra having a particularly disastrous bow, especially for a movie starring Best Actor Oscar nominee Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) and former Twilight star Kristen Stewart. Whether you blame it on a glut of movies targeting the same audience, a lack of major box office draws, or poor reviews, only one of the debutantes is expected to score more than $10 million at U.S. and Canadian theaters by Sunday evening. 'Sinister 2' According to early estimates found at Deadline.com, Ciarán Foy's Sinister 2 will lead the pack of newcomers with...

The Reusable Bughuul: Foy Marks a Franchise for Death
The only thing effectively murdered in the utterly unnecessary and awkwardly bungled sequel to Scott Derrickson’s mostly effective 2012 film Sinister, unrolled with the equally uninspired moniker of Sinister 2, is the material’s once lucrative franchise capabilities. But perhaps Irish helmer Ciaran Foy, taking over for Derrickson, is doing us all a big favor with this perplexingly lethargic follow-up to a film that was already reconstituting elements from a variety of other known genre entities (such as the exposure to vintage cinematic documents necessitating a sort of initiation into the specific paradigm of this particular dark realm a la The Ring).
No longer part of the police force following his involvement with the fiery end greeting the Oswalt family in Sinister, the now Ex-Deputy So & So (James Ransone) is committed to following up on the demonic entity known as Bughuul.

This Friday, Sinister 2 arrives in theaters everywhere courtesy of Gramercy Pictures. The sequel follows James Ransone’s character from the first film, Deputy So & So, as he tracks down Bughuul to an isolated farmhouse where a mother (Shannyn Sossamon) and her twin sons (Robert and Dartanian Sloan) are currently living and must stop the demonic force before it claims another family.
Daily Dead had an opportunity to speak with Ransone earlier this week about returning for another Sinister, becoming a main character for the sequel, collaborating with director Ciarán Foy as well as his co-stars. Ransone also offered some hilarious insight into his process as an actor and even chatted with us about his time working on The Wire.

A few years ago, Irish filmmaker Ciarán Foy made a name for himself with Citadel, his haunting tale of agoraphobic horror that premiered at the SXSW Film Festival. His latest directorial effort, Sinister 2, is set to debut later this week and Daily Dead recently had the opportunity to speak with him about coming on board the sequel, working with the cast, his experiences collaborating with Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, who co-wrote the script, and much more.
Sinister 2 is being released on August 21st from Gramercy Pictures and stars James Ransone as Deputy So & So, who has been tracking Bughuul since the events of the original Sinister and finds a woman (Shannyn Sossaman) and her twin sons (Robert and Dart Sloan) living in a rural house that just so happens to be the demonic force’s latest target. Coming from a man who once relied on a nightlight to ward off evil closet-dwelling monsters, the original Sinister sufficiently creeped me out. Evil dead children, a demon with a reputation for popping out of nowhere, and intolerable home movies – Scott Derrickson’s haunted house rehash scored some serious points in my book. But after watching Sinister 2, I now understand that it wasn’t Bagul’s terrifying hypnosis that sent chills up my spine. Not in the least. It was Derrickson’s direction and tone that ensured each of Bagul’s scares dug its fangs deeper than the last, while Sinister 2 is a wholly different beast of a sequel with a laxer grasp of horror under the guidance of Citadel director Ciarán Foy.
Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill return to unleash Bagul on another unsuspecting family, bringing along a familiar face in James Ransone’s “Ex-Deputy So & So” character (seriously,...

Last August, I was invited to the set of Sinister 2, where it was instantly apparent that Bughuul was leaving his mark on a new family. While the snuff film-obsessed Bughuul was nowhere to be found, we were greeted by quite a few child actors who were playing his little killers in the new movie.
The movie takes place in a new house and with a new family, but "Deputy So and So" returns and appears to be on the trail of the pagan god who caused so much suffering in the first movie. The scenes I watched mainly revolved around Shannyn Sossamon and twin brothers Robert and Dartanian Sloan, who teased something strange going on at a church. We also got to see a handful child actors who were made up as Bughuul's killer children and were haunting (or helping?) the new family.

The evil of Bughuul is spreading in the chilling red-band trailer for Sinister 2. A sequel to the 2012 frightener that finds Citadel‘s Ciarán Foy taking the reins from Scott Derrickson, the film focuses on a new family that finds itself under siege by the same supernatural entity that the Oswalt clan previously fared so poorly against.
This time around, Deputy So and So (James Ransone, seemingly the human face of the franchise), having failed to prevent the brutal murders of true-crime writer Ellison Oswalt (Ethan Hawke) and his family, sets out on the trail of Bughuul, hoping to stop the demon before it claims another set of victims. Judging from all the blood and guts on display in the red-band trailer, though, he doesn’t seem to be doing a great job on that front.

A decent bit, it turns out, if primarily for history buffs and open-minded arthouse cineastes. The film [ Read More ]

Upcoming period film Saving Lincoln hits theaters on February 15th is based on a true story. When Abraham Lincoln (Tom Amandes) is elected President, he brings only one friend to Washington: his banjo-playing, joke-telling former law partner and confidant, Ward Hill Lamon (Lea Coco). Lamon is also large and handy with a gun, and when the first assassination attempt occurs in 1861, Lamon appoints himself the President’s bodyguard. He serves Lincoln faithfully throughout the four years of the Civil War and from this unique perspective, Lamon witnesses every aspect of Lincoln’s fiery trial as Commander-in-Chief, from the constant military and political pressure, to the personal losses of friends and family members.
Lamon soothes Lincoln’s tormented soul, saves him from repeated attempts on his life, and introduces him at the Gettysburg Address. Lamon is not present on that fateful night at Ford’s Theater in 1865 because Lincoln sends him on a mission,...

I can't wait to see this! We all know that director Clint Eastwood is a certifiable "Oscar bait" and he's at it again with this seemingly potent film about the life and times of the crime fighter. Leonardo DiCaprio stars in the titular role, and "The Social Network's" Armie Hammer is Clyde Tolson, the is-he-or-is-he-not the lover of Hoover?
Academy Award-winner Dustin Lance Black ("Milk") wrote the script, so this may have weight and gravitas needed to tell the story of "J. Edgar." The Warner Bros. film opens November 9th.
Here's more info on "J. Edgar" Hoover from Yahoo:
Based on the life of J. Edgar Hoover, the man often credited with making the FBI what it is today: an efficient, crime-fighting organization shrouded in secrecy. Hoover founded the organization in 1935 and remained director until his death in 1972.
Genres: Drama and Biopic
