Janice Long, the first woman to have her own daily show on the BBC’s Radio 1, died at home on Christmas Day. She was 66 and had what was described as a “short illness,” according to reports.
Long has hosted BBC Radio Wales‘ evening show since 2017. Her five-decade career was instrumental in championing the early careers of some of pop music’s biggest stars, including Amy Weinhouse, whom Long granted her first radio session. Long was also the first regular female host of the TV show Top of the Pops, and was one of the main presenters of the Live Aid charity concert in 1985.
BBC director general Tim Davie described her as a “stellar presenter” who was loved across the industry.
Long’s career included hosting shows across BBC stations, as well as the breakfast show on Greater London Radio and Xfm.

Keith Chegwin has died, it's been announced, aged just 60 years old.
Some very, very sad news to report. Keith Chegwin has died at the age of 60. He had been suffering from a lung illness from some time.
I grew up in an era when Chegwin was omnipresent on children’s television, courtesy of his lively work on the likes of The Multicoloured Swap Shop and Saturday Superstore. In truth, I was a bit of an avid Cheggers Plays Pop fan, a show that the man himself admitted came with an often quite 'lively' audience.
He came to television after his early days in acting, and would take to it quickly. Furthermore, he was a man brimming with ideas of his own, and keen to push formats and ideas.
For me personally, he was also the first person I ever interviewed for this site. I’ve never had...

At the height of its early success, Noel's House Party got in trouble with the organisation behind the Academy Awards...
Amongst the pantheon of television stars who found fame on Saturday morning childrens’ television programmes in the 1980s, there aren’t too many movie trivia stories to uncover. Keith Chegwin was in a Roman Polanski movie, of course, so there’s that. But then there’s the small matter of Noel Edmonds, who managed to get on the wrong side of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences – AMPAS – in the Us.
That’d be the same AMPAS who dish out the Academy Awards. And it was an Oscar-related issue that they weren’t happy about.
It all centred on Noel’s House Party, the Saturday evening light entertainment show that for some time was an absolute ratings juggernaut. All concerned have freely admitted that it...

Can lovely, innocent Blind Date really exist in the same tawdry world as Take Me Out?
Blind Date is coming back this weekend. So much has changed since the 1980s, both on TV and in society itself, that what returns to our screens may not be a straight-forward, fully-intact teleport of the format, but rather a mutant mish-mash: a half-fly Jeff Goldblum of a show just begging to be put out of its misery. The truth of this inevitable transformation can be seen in the steps already taken up the light-entertainment evolutionary ladder, most notably in the DNA of ITV's long-running post-Blind Date offering, Take Me Out.

Keith Chegwin is no longer in touch with the other contestants he starred with in 'Celebrity Big Brother'. The 58-year-old presenter was part of the series earlier this year which saw Perez Hilton go to war with Katie Hopkins and have bust-ups with Calum Best, Michelle Visage and Kavana among others. Jeremy Jackson was also thrown out for inappropriate behaviour towards glamour model Chloe Goodman and Ken Morley booted out for offensive language. It's been 18 years since Alan Partridge first mooted the notion of Youth Hostelling with Chris Eubank - and as of last week, the project is a dream no longer.
Eubank's team-up with Hostelworld is, of course, a deliberate tip of the hat to Steve Coogan's comic creation - but too often the telly schedules are plagued with examples of #AccidentalPartridge.
Behold, 12 shows that sound like they sprang straight from Alan's fertile mind - this little lot are on a par with Inner City Sumo or Arm Wrestling with Chas 'n' Dave.

Celebrity shepherding - Lesley Joseph goes from Birds to sheep and Fazer from N-Dubz lends livestock some street cred.
No-one makes a pun on Amanda Lamb's name, though. Missed opportunity.
2. Gordon Behind Bars
"Cooking in prison" was a format that Alan Partridge actually pitched to Tony Hayers, but it took foul-mouthed foodie Gordon Ramsay to make it a reality.

Noel Edmonds baffled TV fans this week when he declared that "electro smog" is a bigger world problem than climate change or even Aids.
This might be a surprising claim, were it not for the fact that Mr Blobby's bearded buddy has had more than his fair share of bizarre moments over the years. Whether you consider him a national treasure, a visionary maverick or just plain wrong, here are 9 of his most memorable moments that will surely leave all but the most hardened fans scratching their heads.
1. He claims to be visited by two melon-sized 'spiritual energy' balls
Noel has spoken openly about his belief in Spiritualism and cosmic ordering, a version of positive thinking in which people can write down their wishes and wait for them to materialise.

Piers Morgan has written an open letter to his old foe Jeremy Clarkson following the BBC's decision not to renew his contract yesterday (March 25).
Clarkson will no longer work for the BBC due to his high-profile "fracas" with Top Gear producer Oisin Tymon.
Clarkson and Morgan fell out a decade ago, after Morgan published photos of Clarkson with a woman who wasn't his wife.
Writing for the Daily Mail, Morgan said he was "strangely sorry" that Clarkson had been sacked.
He said: "But you didn't give the BBC much choice. You can't whack a member of your own production team in a drunken, foul-mouthed rage - however cold the food."
Morgan explained how the pair ended their feud in a pub last year, after it was clear to him that Clarkson was going through a tough time professionally and personally.

Keith Chegwin has finished fourth in Celebrity Big Brother 2015.

CBB's Katie Hopkins: Is she being sincere or putting on an act to win?

Eamonn Holmes has quizzed the Celebrity Big Brother housemates as part of their News task.
The first celebs to join Eamonn at the newsdesk were Keith Chegwin, Perez Hilton and Katie Hopkins, who were firstly asked which housemates they thought were being themselves.
Perez said he was being himself, but admitted that he had "been far from happy" during his time in the house.
When questioned about her relationship with Perez, Katie Hopkins admitted: "In the last couple of days, Perez hasn't been such a tw*t… but ultimately my hatred for Perez is still very deep.
"I can't stand the man, I think he should be kicked out of the house, there's nothing about him that I like."
Those comments prompted Keith to wonder if the pair have been "play acting", with Katie Hopkins then angrily questioning if they have actually been seeing the real Keith.

Perez attempts to retaliate against Katie Hopkins's goading by suggesting she use her nose to clean the beans from the floor, before she quips: "You're going to have to come up with a cleverer insult than that Perez, if you think it's going to touch the sides."

The Celebrity Big Brother housemates have reacted with disappointment after an earlier task.
The task had seen Cami Li and Calum Best receive letters from home after Cami decided to hit the buzzer and destroy Kavana and Keith Chegwin's letters.
Perez Hilton, Katie Price, Michelle Visage and Katie Hopkins had all lost the chance to receive their letters as well, when none of them pressed the buzzer during their round.
After the task, Katie Price revealed that she asked Cami not to push the button.
Calum said that he couldn't turn against her, while Cami maintained that she was going by the rules and badly wanted to receive her letter. Cami was then given a hug by Katie Hopkins, as Michelle looked on upset.
Later in the garden, Calum told Kavana that he couldn't talk Cami out of pressing the buzzer, as he wanted to be "loyal as a...

Cami Li and Calum Best have received letters from home after the latest Celebrity Big Brother task.
Big Brother paired and split the housemates into two groups. Cami and Calum were in the living area along with Perez Hilton and Katie Price, while Keith Chegwin and Kavana were with Michelle Visage and Katie Hopkins in the task room.
The couples then had to take it in turns to play for their letters. In each game, the first pair to press their buzzer will receive their letters. The other pair's will be destroyed.
Perez and Katie Price were up against Michelle and Katie Hopkins. Perez and Katie Price chose not to hit the buzzer, agreeing between them that they would like Michelle to hear from her children.
Michelle and Katie Hopkins also did not press, theorising that Big Brother might reward the housemates for being selfless. As a result of the stand-off,...

Katie Hopkins has taken offence after Michelle Visage told Katie Price she was part of their group.
In tonight's (February 1) show, Katie Hopkins tells Michelle that she has made a mistake telling Katie Price she is their friend.
"That's not a group I'm part of," Katie Hopkins says, before adding that she doesn't think Katie Price has been in the house long enough to get the honour.
The exchange begins when Katie Hopkins overhears a conversation between Katie Price and Cami Li discussing cheating ex-boyfriends.
As Katie Price tells a story involving catching her ex having sex with another girl, Katie Hopkins retells the story to Michelle, before adding her take on the situation.
Katie Hopkins says: "I can honestly say I've had enough of people talking about their sex lives.
"Clearly, [Katie Price] attracts dingbats."

Perez Hilton has said that he wants Keith Chegwin to win this series of Celebrity Big Brother.
In tonight's (February 1) show, Perez reveals that Keith winning would be the "ultimate f**k you" to the other housemates.
In a conversation with Katie Price, Perez says: "Keith winning would be the ultimate f**k you to everyone who desperately wants to win in this house."
While talking to Keith and Katie Price, the blogger also comments that it seems the other housemates have excluded them since Nadia Sawalha's eviction.
"The three of us are the three of us," he says, to which Katie Price responds: "Just one day with no arguments."
Last night's Celebrity Big Brother saw Perez Hilton receive a final formal warning for inappropriate language.
However, Perez failed to understand how he caused offence, insisting that he simply repeated the same words Calum Best said to him.

The celebrities find out who the public think is the most annoying housemate in tonight's Celebrity Big Brother.
As part of the latest task, the housemates split into two teams to compete in a competition of perception.
The two teams need to produce the correct line-up of celebrities which corresponds with what the public has voted - such as most annoying, most disappointing and most vain housemate.
Team Calum Best is made up of Nadia Sawalha, Keith Chegwin and Michelle Visage, while Team Kavana consists of Katie Hopkins, Katie Price, Cami-Li and Perez Hilton.
During the game, Nadia becomes upset that the public has decided she is the most disappointing housemate.
Michelle then jokes: "Am I going to be most vain because I'm a drag queen?"
Team Calum completed the task in the fastest time, meaning they win the competition.

Keith Chegwin and Katie Hopkins continue to exchange angry words in tonight's Celebrity Big Brother.
As the housemates discuss Kavana's drunken behaviour from the night before, Keith explains that he thinks it's a shame that alcohol changes the singer's behaviour.
Katie Hopkins quickly inserts her opinion before storming to the bedroom, and says: "It's better to enjoy yourself than be a grumpy old bastard!"
Keith follows and tells Katie Hopkins: "If you actually listened to what people said, maybe you'd have more sense about what happened?"
Katie Hopkins then describes Kavana as a "good egg" when he's had a drink, with Keith asking if she had actually heard what was said between the housemates.
Keith says: "You come in and only get half of a conversation and decide to do your usual thing; have an argument!"
Katie Hopkins responds by saying that all Keith does is moan, and...
