Amazon Studios brings the story of Marie Curie to the screen with Radioactive starring Oscar-nominated actress Rosamund Pike as the pioneering scientist.
Directed by Marjane Satrapi (Persepolis) and written by Jack Thorne, Radioactive is based on the 2010 graphic novel Radioactive: Marie & Pierre Curie: A Tale of Love and Fallout by Lauren Redniss. The film adaptation follows Curie’s life and the legacy of scientific breakthroughs. At the same time, the story tells the darker consequences that came about after her amazing work.
Curie married fellow scientist Pierre Curie (Sam Riley) who went on to raise two daughters and change the face of science forever by jointly winning the Nobel for the discovery of radium in 1903. After the death of her husband, Curie continues her research and invites scandal when she has an affair with another prominent scientist, Paul Langevin (Aneurin Barnard). However, it is Marie’s commitment to science which prevails,...

"His spirit moved each of you to sign up for this retreat." Vertical Entertainment has released a second, full-length trailer for the coming-of-age, sexual awakening comedy called Yes, God, Yes, which originally premiered at the SXSW Film Festival last year. This semi-autobiographical film is described as "a fresh, fun look at what solo explorations of sexuality can look like for a girl in the Midwest." Alice, a devout Catholic teen in the early 2000s, discovers her sexuality and the pleasures of masturbation, and struggles to suppress her new urges in the face of eternal damnation. Starring Natalia Dyer (from "Stranger Things") as Alice, joined by Timothy Simons, Susan Blackwell, Alisha Boe, Donna Lynne Champlin, plus Wolfgang Novogratz. Out of all the indie sex comedies coming up this year, this looks like the best one. Kinky and smart, and also a fun guide for rejecting the ridiculousness of religion. This might actually be worth a watch.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “The Gang Discovers Who Killed Jeffrey Epstein,” the fourth season finale of “The Good Fight.”
“The Good Fight” began airing its fourth season on CBS All Access just a few weeks after the real world had gone on lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. Co-creators and co-showrunners Robert and Michelle King had spent painstaking months preparing a specifically arced out season that started with a thought experiment of a world in which Hillary Clinton had become president in 2016, included the central law firm of Reddick, Boseman & Lockhart adjusting to life under new managers Str Laurie and concluded with that law firm trying to buy its way out from under that rule, not to mention being hired to investigate whether Jeffrey Epstein’s jail cell death was a murder or a suicide.

Welcome back to the Supporting Actress Smackdown, a summer festival in which we investigate Oscar vintages from years past. This time around it's 1981 in which an estranged daughter, an unhappy socialite, a guilt-ridden Catholic, a political radical, and a scandalous young beauty gather for our viewing pleasure.
1981's Supporting Actress nominations made room for a two-time winner with a very personal project, an actor's actor in a star-driven historical epic, two sturdy characters in 'issues' pictures of very different kinds and a rapidly rising starlet who had made a big film debut the year prior in 1980's Best Picture winner Ordinary People.
This Month's Panelists
Here to talk about these five nominated turns and the movies and Oscars of 1981 are, in alphabetical order: writer/director Eric Blume, actor Donna Lynne Champlin (Crazy Ex Girlfriend), actor Sean Maguire, festival programmer Amir Soltani, and critic Boyd Van Hoeij (The Hollywood Reporter). And,...

After four seasons, “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” closed the songbook on a unique musical comedy the likes of which has never been seen on television before. It’s not just that the show delivered two original songs with accompanying music videos a week — a feat unto itself — or that those songs brought the protagonist’s Id to raunchy, rhyming, and occasionally heartbreaking, Technicolor life. But in its final episode, The CW show moves the role of song from gimmicky storytelling device to an essential part of the narrative. The fantasy transforms into exciting, enlightening reality.
On the show, triple threat Rachel Bloom plays massively unhappy but successful lawyer Rebecca Bunch, who desperately wants to find love. Despite constantly dragging up the Nielsen ratings' rear, The CW has refrained from cancelling its Crazy Ex-Girlfriend TV show. They even gave it a fourth and final season to complete the story. Now, since it is ending, we don't have to spend the season wondering if Crazy Ex-Girlfriend will be cancelled or renewed for season five. Still, we're keeping an eye on the ratings, because it helps us figure out the cancellation/renewal chances of other CW TV series. So will Crazy Ex-Girlfriend go out with a whimper or a bang? Stay tuned.

Despite cast changes and low ratings, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend stuck to its four-year plan and ended on its own terms.
This feature contains spoilers for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, up to but not including the series finale.
As geek TV goes, the CW has a pretty great track record for letting shows run. Outside of their comic book shows, they're the network that gave Rachel Bloom and Aline Brosh McKenna the space to tell the whole story of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend over a full four seasons, as planned, in spite of being (as bluntly as co-creator Bloom once put it) “the lowest-rated show on network television.”
Originally developed for Showtime, the series was by no means a dud, garnering awards nominations, rave reviews, and devoted fans throughout its run. But network television isn't always the most hospitable place for shows like these and a big part of its appeal, now that...

Spoiler Alert: This article contains details of tonight’s series finale of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
It’s time to say goodbye to West Covina — at least for now. The Crazy Ex-Girlfriend season finale aired tonight and instead of going out with a full-out musical number with a fanfare of joy, creators Rachel Bloom and Aline Brosh McKenna delivered an intimate show that played like a love letter to fans while celebrating the unique storytelling and heroine of the CW comedy. But if you are looking for a party, don’t worry. The CW aired Yes, It’s Really Us Singing: The Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Concert Special! after the finale which was essentially a wrap party for everyone to celebrate the show.
Yes, the finale had its fair share of quirks expected from Bloom’s Rebecca Bunch, but it was thoughtful and heartwarming — like saying goodbye to your best friend who was a drama geek in high school.

After Crazy Ex-Girlfriend takes its final bow this week, the cast is coming out for one last curtain call.
Friday’s series finale (The CW, 8/7c) will be followed by “Yes, It’s Really Us Singing: The Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Concert Special!” a live performance taped last month at Los Angeles’ Orpheum Theatre, with the cast taking the stage to sing a selection of Crazy Ex tunes. Lots of fan favorites will be in there, from “Let’s Generalize About Men” to “Gettin’ Bi” to “You Stupid Bitch,” but condensing four seasons of musical comedy down to less than an hour was a daunting task indeed.

Even without the songs, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend would still be one of the best comedies on TV: a sharply insightful, wickedly subversive, riotously funny rom-com that is fully aware it’s a rom-com. But the show’s original songs — all 150-some of them! — have elevated it into something wholly unique and unmatched anywhere on TV.
With Crazy Ex taking its final bow with Friday’s series finale (The CW, 8/7c) — no, we’re not anywhere close to being ready to say goodbye yet — we’re honoring four seasons of musical comedy genius by ranking the very best Crazy Ex songs from the entire series.

While four seasons of “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” have explored musical genres from boy bands to country, the one type of music series co-creator and star Rachel Bloom admits the show will not explore before the end is Rebecca’s own style.
“Basically the idea is that part of the music in her mind is her looking inside with all of these perceived narratives so I don’t know how her music sounds,” Bloom told Variety at the show’s Paleyfest event Wednesday. “Really there’s another show in, what is her sound? I don’t know what Rebecca’s sound is. She’s not Rachel Bloom — she’s not doing comedy. It’s a beautiful mystery.”
The CW series will come to an end April 5 with a two-hour block that consists of its narrative finale episode followed by a concert special that was taped live from Los Angeles, Calif. in mid-March.

Since it began, the CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has been full of surprises. Somehow, the musical romantic comedy has been able to churn out — via co-creator and star Rachel Bloom and fellow songwriters Adam Schlesinger and Jack Dolgen — two to three clever and catchy song parodies per episode. And somehow, Bloom, co-creator Aline Brosh McKenna and the rest of the creative team have been able to effortlessly dance between ridiculous, explicit, proudly lowbrow comedy (no current show enjoys poop jokes more) and thoughtful and heavy drama about mental illness.

A musical show with dancing and singing set in West Covina, Calif., may not be the most obvious fit Comic-Con, but one thing “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” shares with the more genre-friendly shows is a rabid fan base. Therefore, star Rachel Bloom and co-creator Aline Brosh McKenna took to the dais in San Diego Thursday night to regale its fans about the show and tease details of its upcoming fourth and final season.
Cast member Michael McMillan, who plays Rebecca’s co-worker Tim, got a temporary promotion as moderator of the panel, which he called, “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend: The Final Curtain Call,” in honor of the last act of the series. The self-proclaimed “garden-variety white man” kicked the session off by introducing the gag reel for the third season. Then Brosh McKenna gave a shout-out to fans in the audience who had cosplayed as characters from the show, including Broom Darryl and Rebecca as the “Love Kernels” cactus.

Welcome to “Remote Controlled,” a podcast from Variety featuring the best and brightest in television, both in front of and behind the camera.
