Today was a busy day for some of the smaller guilds with the Visual Effects Society, the Cinema Audio Society, and the Makeup and Hairstylists Guilds all announcing their nominations for 2013.
First, we have the Ves, whose main category to look at is “Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Feature Motion Picture,” where we find Gravity and four other nominees that are just going to have to be happy with the fact that they got nominated. This is perhaps the easiest category to call in the entirety of awards season, and I don’t mean just here, but for the Oscar as well (Last year’s winner, Life of Pi, easily took this category before going on to claim the Oscar). 20th Century Fox TV’s post-production executive Brian Chambers died Nov. 11 after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 56. Chambers spent eight years at the studio, serving as Director of Post Production and No.2 executive in the post production department to Gary Hall. He oversaw post production on all 20th TV series and worked up until his death; he was last in the office 2 days before he passed away. In the last couple of years, Chambers developed a close relationship with Modern Family co-creator/executive producer Steve Levitan whom he helped watch cuts and do other post-production work on his iPad. Modern Family‘s Thanksgiving episode last week ended with a card dedicated to the Chamber’s memory. Before joining 20th TV, Chambers worked as editor, producer, and production manager on a slew of film and television productions, including features Lethal Weapon 3 and Frankie and Johnny and series Fame and Judging Amy.
