American actress who also worked in England during the 1950s and 60s. She later became an acting coach and sometime theatre director, moving to England permanently when she married an Englishman. Her daughter Dee Cannon later also become an acting coach.
Taught many famous pupils including Simon Callow and Colin Firth. Callow recalls her in his autobiography for the way that she would berate students for their superficial performances, whilst chewing gum loudly and shouting "I don't believe you!"
Was a co-founder of off-off Broadway with Groucho Marx and Peter Falk.
