In 2011, he was interviewed for Sir Jimmy Savile: As It Happened (2011), a BBC tribute to the late presenter. In 2012, following mounting evidence that Savile was a prolific sexual abuser during his lifetime, Campbell donated his £250 fee to the National Association for People Abused in Childhood.
He was awarded the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2015 Queen's BIrthday Honours List for his services to Children. He is a Patron of the British Association for Adoption and Fostering in London, England.
His family name was Lackey, but he was adopted at nine days old by the Campbells.
