Candace Bushnell is not creatively attached to And Just Like That…, the Sex and the City reboot. She still has plenty of opinions on Carrie Bradshaw’s love life, though. In a recent interview, Bushnell confidently asserted that Carrie Bradshaw probably could have been pretty happy with how her life would have turned out if she had married Aidan Shaw. The statement starkly contrasts Bushnell’s thoughts on the subject just a year ago.
Candace Bushnell thinks Carrie and Aidan could have been happy together
Candace Bushnell has seemingly changed her stance on Carrie Bradshaw’s love life. As the author of Sex and the City and the inspiration for Carrie Bradshaw, no one would know better who the quirky sex columnist belonged with, yet she remains unsure. In 2023, the famed author took to X to reveal that she didn’t think either one of Carrie’s “big loves” was the right fit for her.

Sex and the City has found new life among an entirely new demographic of viewers. After the iconic series appeared on Netflix on April 1, subscribers took to binging the series. While there has been plenty of discussion about Carrie Bradshaw and her pals’ sex lives, it’s important to remember the entire series was based on a very real sex column that ran in a New York City newspaper back in the 1990s. Candace Bushnell created Carrie Bradshaw as an alter ego. While many parts of Carrie’s life mimic Bushnell’s New York City dating experience, plenty of creative changes were made. Do you know what paper Bushnell’s column ran in?
What newspaper ran the original ‘Sex and the City’ column?
Carrie Bradshaw famously made a living writing about her own dating experience and the sexual exploits of her friends Charlotte York, Miranda Hobbes, and Samantha Jones. Carrie...

It’s been 26 years since Sex and the Citydebuted on HBO and changed not only the television landscape but also the way we think and talk about sex, relationships, and fashion. Created by Darren Star and based on Candace Bushnell’s wildly popular columns turned book, the show aired from 1998–2004, redefining women’s relationships to men, friends, cupcakes, shoes, and singlehood itself, as I write in my book Sex and the City and Us. And while their stories keep coming in the spin-off And Just Like That…, the original remains the gold standard of glamorous single woman TV: Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Samantha (Kim Cattrall) are still the friends we love to laugh and cry with, roll our eyes and cringe at, go clubbing and shopping with. So, with all six seasons of Sex and the City now streaming on Netflix, raise a...

Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell revealed this week she will not receive royalties from Netflix amid the show’s freshly announced move to the streamer.
“The way men do business is a ponzi scheme,” Bushnell told The Sunday Times.
Bushnell published her first “Sex and the City” column in The New York Observer in 1994. She told the Times this week that she was paid $100,000 for the screen rights to HBO’s Sex and the City in the ’90s, which eventually ran for six seasons from 1998 to 2004 and later spanned two movies and the spinoff series, And Just Like That (currently in production on its third season).

Candace Bushnell whose novel about four Manhattan women and their love lives inspired a TV phenomenon, has revealed she’ll be receiving no royalties from the deal secured by Netflix recently to air the six seasons of Sex and the City on its platform.
Bushnell was originally paid $100,000 by HBO for the screen rights to her novel, which spawned the TV series that ran from 1998 to 2004, and a franchise now worth hundreds of millions of dollars. And she was forthright in sharing her opinion on the new deal going forward, telling The Times of London newspaper:

Carrie Bradshaw and the rest of the “Sex and the City” coterie are heading to a binge-watching date on Netflix.
Netflix has inked a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery to license all six seasons of the popular HBO dramedy, comprising all 94 episodes, Variety confirmed. “Sex and the City” will land on Netflix in early April 2024.
The deal is not worldwide: The series will be available in the U.S. and several other European markets, sources familiar with the pact said. In addition, the deal does not include the two “Satc” feature-length films, nor does it include the recent spin-off “And Just Like That,” which is currently streaming only on Wbd’s Max.
In “Sex and the City,” which originally aired on HBO from 1998-2004, Sarah Jessica Parker stars as Bradshaw, a New York writer who “finds inspiration for her column from the genuine, emotional and often humorous exploits of her friends and lovers.

Likely thanks to delays caused by the now settled dual Hollywood strikes, we won’t see the third season of Max’s And Just Like That until 2025.
The return was confirmed in a Max promo released earlier today with first looks of its upcoming 2024/2025 lineup. The spot also confirmed previously announced 2025 premieres for HBO’s Euphoria, The White Lotus and The Last of Us.
A specific premiere date for the Sex and the City continuation series was never set, but the writers room was back in operation beginning in early November following resolution of the WGA strike, and production start pending resolution of the SAG-AFTRA strike. It was just ratified last night with 78.33% of ballots in favor of the November 8 tentative agreement with the AMPTP.
It won’t be the first lengthy delay between seasons of the Sex and the City sequel. There were 15 months between the Season 1 finale on Feb.

An unscripted dating show based on author Candace Bushnell’s “Sex and the City” book is in development at Bunim/Murray Productions, Variety has confirmed.
Titled “Is There Still Sex in The City,” the program will follow four friends in their fifties as they navigate the immersive dating experience in a “love do-over” where they trade in their busy city lives for a “dating utopia.” “They’ll live together in a cozy country chateau where they’ll have their pick of a different group of men in each episode. They’ll try the boy toys, sample a senior age player, be romanced by the rich guys and even get to flirt with their fantasy man. But in the end, who will really steal their hearts, and will our ladies be able to bring the sex back to the city?” reads the logline.

For Sex and the City fans, it feels like Carrie Bradshaw has always been in Manhattan. Despite her knowledge of the city, the fictional sex columnist was not a born and raised New Yorker. While the original series didn’t delve too deeply into Carrie’s upbringing, and what she has said about her early life greatly deviates from The Carrie Diaries, we have a pretty good sense of exactly when she started her love affair with Manhattan. Carrie Bradshaw moved to Manhattan as a 20-something and never left.
When did Carrie Bradshaw move to Manhattan?
Carrie Bradshaw carved out a niche in Manhattan as a sex columnist after arriving in 1986. When Sex and the City began in 1998, Carrie was 32 years old, which means she was born in 1966. If she came to Manhattan in June 1986, she was headed into her 20s as she forged a new, independent life. According to Summer in the City,...

Sex and the City was famously based on a series of columns and a book by author Candace Bushnell. In the original columns, Bushnell told stories about people she knew but always returned to a core group of friends in her writing. While it is hard to imagine the characters as different from what was depicted by HBO, that’s the case. The characters of Miranda Hobbes, Charlotte York, and Samantha Jones were much different than the characters described in the Sex and the City source material. While Carrie Bradshaw remained true to her column self, her pals had much different career paths in the original book. While the series kept some personality traits intact, their storylines and career paths were changed to craft a more interesting series.

The latest chapter of Sex and the City, Max’s And Just Like That... is currently in its second season. While fans are divided on the show, most notably on Miranda Hobbes’ sudden lifestyle shift, others are loving the chance to reconnect with the characters they love so much. Although many writers and producers have a hand in making the Satc franchise so detailed and intricate, a few details have slipped through the cracks over the years. Most recently, after a brand-new episode of And Just Like That…, fans called out the fact that actor Peter Hermann, who played Carrie’s new love interest in the episode, had previously appeared in Satc, playing a totally different character.

Sarah Jessica Parker Once Shared She Was Against Blake Lively’s Potential ‘Sex and the City’ Prequel
Sarah Jessica Parker has recently returned to the Sex and the City franchise with the Max sequel And Just Like That. But years prior, there were talks of a potential prequel to the series starring Blake Lively.
Sarah Jessica Parker didn’t like the idea of a ‘Sex and the City’ prequel Sarah Jessica Parker | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Even after the Sex and the City series ended, the property itself continued to thrive. The television show spawned two successful theatrical releases, and soon afterwards there were rumblings of a prequel series being developed. But there weren’t too many Sex and the City alums that favored the idea. Sex and the City director Michael Patrick King, who had strong ties to the show, was firmly against the concept.
“The idea of going backwards and making [Carrie] less evolved … is something that I don’t even imagine doing,” King once told the Los Angeles Times.

Sex and the City is a revolutionary show that changed television forever. Even though it aired from 1998 to 2004, the show still holds enormous cultural relevance today. Not only did it change the way we perceive single women and female friendships, but it also made a huge mark on feminism and sexual freedom. Based on Candace Bushnell‘s book, the show Sex and the City followed four female friends as they navigate relationships, friendships, careers, and womanhood. It was one of the most groundbreaking series in Hollywood history, both onscreen and behind the scenes. It’s no wonder the show got...

Kristin Davis would very much like to help feuding Sex and the City stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall mend fences.
Fresh off the shocking announcement that Cattrall filmed a cameo for And Just Like That Season 2's August finale, Davis is speaking out about her former co-star's return.
For the record, Cattrall had been vocal about not being interested in returning to the role of Samantha Jones or sharing the screen with her former co-stars in any future Satc projects.
As a result, the news of Cattrall's return took many by surprise, including some of her co-stars because her scene was filmed with so much secrecy, they were left in the dark.
Davis, who has appeared in the franchise for 25 years, opened up about the distance between Parker and Cattrall.

When you talk to Candace Bushnell, you don’t really see Carrie Bradshaw.
Instead, you see more of a Samantha Jones, a fabulous blonde woman wearing sunglasses inside her Sag Harbor home in the Hamptons. She’s put together, and eager to get down to business — she says she’s working on being her own Mr. Big rather than searching for him.
In the mid-1990s, Bushnell wrote a column for the New York Observer titled Sex and the City. There, she examined Manhattan life through the sex lives and relationships of her and her friends. As the column progressed, she began writing about herself under the pen name “Carrie Bradshaw.”
Later in that decade, Darren Star created the HBO series “Sex and the City” based on Bushnell’s column. It ran for six seasons, from 1998-2004, and then launched two films and the subsequent where-are-they-now spin off series, “And Just Like That,...

Carrie Bradshaw is moving on in the return of And Just Like That.
The official trailer for season two of the hit HBO sequel series to Sex and the City picks up more than one year after Big’s (Chris Noth) sudden death and sees Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) focused on moving on. Not only has she realized how to use her kitchen (“Did you know stoves aren’t just for storage?” she asks), but she’s also dating and reaching out to the former flame that viewers have been waiting for.
Toward the end of the nearly two-minute first look (below), Carrie sends Aidan Shaw (John Corbett) an email. A closer look reveals the note reads: “Hey Stranger … Remember me? If this is still your email, it’s me — Carrie. Was just thinking about you the other day … and I wondered how you were doing. So, how ya doing?...

It’s a Manhattan miracle—Kim Cattrall will be returning to the role of Samantha for Season 2 of “And Just Like That,” the “Sex and the City” sequel series. Variety was the first site to report this news.

As per TV Line, Max’s “Sex and the City” sequel will only boast the former series regular in a cameo role—on the telephone with Parker’s lead character Carrie (a persona loosely based on author Candace Bushnell’s NYC adventures).
Word is that Catrall and Parker did not speak or see one another during the shoot (but she was reportedly costumed by “Satc”’s longtime wardrobe head Patricia Field). The two performers are not fond of one another and have been feuding for some time,...

As the writers strike continues to dominate Hollywood discourse, Ted Sarandos has exited a planned appearance at a Pen America event next week that was set to honor him.
The literary organization announced Wednesday that the Netflix co-ceo will no longer attend their annual gala to accept the Pen America Business Visionary Award. The event will still take place May 18 in New York as planned with Saturday Night Live’s Colin Jost as host, and Lorne Michaels remains scheduled to participate as an honored guest.
“We admire Ted Sarandos’ singular work translating literature to artful presentation onscreen, and his stalwart defense of free expression and satire,” Pen America said in a statement. “As a writers organization, we have been following recent events closely and understand his decision.”
The group added that the event will include a focus on the rise of book bans and the constraints surrounding comedy as it...

Sarah Jessica Parker has become forever linked with the iconic portrayal of Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City. Even those who never really watched the series and its spinoffs haven’t been able to escape its cultural impact. The original show ran for six seasons before spinning off into two movies and a reboot TV series.
Through all of those adventures, fans grew to love the characters of Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda. It’s funny to think that none of it might have come to be if it wasn’t for Candace Bushnell’s original newspaper column, a work that cataloged her own adventures with sex and love in New York City.

Get on the phone with Ron Bernstein and he’ll happily share his views on who’s up and down at the studios — and inevitably, he’ll talk about his latest deals. On a recent call, he hyped the Redstone family power saga by James Stewart and Rachel Abrams, “Unscripted: The Epic Battle for a Hollywood Media Empire”; sure enough, within weeks it sold to producer Steven Paul, who’s developing the juicy Shakespearean drama for television.
Bernstein is Hollywood’s most respected media rights agent. He’s repped the source material for the Coen brothers’ Best Picture winner “No Country for Old Men” (Cormac McCarthy), Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln” (Doris Kearns Goodwin), Danny Boyle’s “Jobs” (Walter Isaacson), and Clint Eastwood’s “Richard Jewell” (Marie Brenner).
Now, he has a new job. After a 23-year run at ICM, which CAA bought in 2022, Bernstein recently joined the Agency for the...

The second season of the Sex and the City sequel series returns June 22 with 11 episodes on Max, and the premiere announcement came with a revealing first-look trailer at what’s in store when Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) return.
