Before I start gushing about just how great this cartoon and, by connection, this set are, let’s establish two things. First, for every good thing I have to say about the entire set I include a single footnote: this should be available in a Blu-ray release as well, the animation would be sharper and bolder, the audio would be stunning and the entire package would have had that much more relevance considering the current trends of digital media. Second, this is so much more than just a ‘cartoon’. As is said a few times in the extra features of the series, Justice League may be the greatest superhero animated series to have ever existed. So what does that imply about this complete series set? One of the best ever?

The general see-ask-pause-agree formula of the Little Einsteins franchise proves to be more than just an easily replicable gimmick. Disney, which owns the Little Einsteins series, has made a dubious effort to reproduce the success of the all-too-popular brand but with the flagship Disney characters in their place. Instead of four toddlers wandering about with classical music interludes we now have Mickey and Donald prancing about in a nonsensical series of encounters serving as little more than a shallow opportunity to get as many Disney characters in the minds of your kids so they’ll forever be consumers of the Disney Kool-Aid.
Alright, so this all sounds downright vindictive, but it really stems from good old-fashioned resentment for a poorly crafted production that feels like its entire premise was a rejected episode from the Little Einsteins line stretched to twice the acceptable length. To start, the title would invoke some »

Oh sweet cartoon nostalgia! Simultaneously revealing things we never saw in our cartoons way back when and reminding us of the things we did but wish we hadn’t. The 25th Anniversary release of Transformers: The Complete First Season almost manages to drown out the bitter with the sweet, but there still remains a few glaring issues with our old friends the Autobots and their adventures on Earth. Virtually hitting the 6 hour marker with episodic content, the 16 chapters in the fight against Megatron and the Decepticons are a vividly colored blast from the past with a shiny new package, some meager extras and a big Autobot magnet.
Cybertron flourished with a peaceful technological utopia where the life forms known as the Autobots, a sentient race of machines, existed in harmony. Until Megatron came on the scene. Seceding from the rest of his Autobot kind, he launched a civil war »
