When Netflix’s “Extraction” premiered in 2020, its elaborately constructed set pieces propelled it to become the streaming service’s most-watched original film to that point and marked director Sam Hargrave as a talent to watch. Hargrave and star Chris Hemsworth now return to the adventures of Australian black ops mercenary Tyler Rake (Hemsworth) for “Extraction 2,” a sequel that improves upon its predecessor in just about every way without losing sight of what audiences loved about the first movie. The action is bigger, the motivations more personal and affecting, and Hargrave’s command of his craft more assured.
Hargrave is part of one of the most positive trends in action filmmaking in recent years: The rise of directors with a background in stunts. The most famous examples are Chad Stahelski (the “John Wick” franchise) and David Leitch, who follow in the footsteps of ’70s and ’80s pioneers Hal Needham (“Smokey and the Bandit...

I wish I could say 1998's "Meet The Deedles" was an underrated Disney movie but I can't. In truth, it's probably just about right-rated. Critics wasted no time laying into this frankly bizarre attempt at emulating the buddy comedy magic of such classics as "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" and "Dumb and Dumber" at a time when that goofball subgenre was quite clearly on its last legs. It's one of those movies where you would love to have been in the pitch meeting just to see how it was explained and what actually made Disney greenlight it.
The company had acquired Dic Entertainment as part of its 1996 Capital Cities/ABC deal and was seemingly happy for Dic's newly-created live-action department to use Disney's distribution power to pump "Meet The Deedles" out into the world — like some noxious pollutant contributing to the overall degradation of the cultural atmosphere. I know that's a bit harsh,...

Unfortunately, episode 13 will indeed be the season 1 finale episode. So, it's going to be the last one we see for a while. CBS did deliver a very short teaser description for this last episode of season 1. So, that's what we'll be referencing for this spoiler session. As usual, we'll get things started with the title for this episode. It turns out the producers named it, "The Revenge Of Farouk." That's a very fitting title considering the contents of this episode. The season 1 finale episode 13 sounds like it will feature some very interesting, possible dramatic, adventured-filled, dangerous...

[To get you into the spooky spirit, the Daily Dead team is spotlighting double features that we think would be fun to watch this Halloween season. Check here for more double feature recommendations and other Halloween 2017 coverage.]
There’s nothing quite like an outside threat to bring a family together, especially when that threat is of the undead variety. Siblings may not always get along, but when your sister’s soul is sought by a coven of witches, or when your mom is eyed as an eternal bride by a coffin-dwelling creep, it’s time to take those Sister Sledge lyrics to heart and become a family that can overcome anything—including wicked spells and sharp fangs. Set on respective fateful nights where the future of a homestead hangs in the balance and its up to siblings to save it, Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire and Hocus Pocus are family-friendly films that make for a great double feature during the Halloween season.
Perhaps the less-known of the two films, Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire will likely ring a nostalgic bell for...

Revolution, Season 2, Episode 12: “Captain Trips”
Written by Paul Grellong & Jim Barnes
Directed by Steve Boyum
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm (Et) on NBC
After weeks and weeks of rampant plotting, Revolution takes its foot off the gas and finally gives us all a breather.
“Captain Trip” is a marked change in pace from what we’re used to and doesn’t feature much in the way of action outside of a few violent flurries, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing as it allows us to take stock and absorb what’s going on.
The typhus plague introduced in “Mis Dos Padres” absorbs most of the main characters in the A-plot, with Rachel jumping in to help Gene and Charlie get to the bottom of the problem, while Miles, Monroe, and Connor monitor this situation from outwith the quarantine camp. It’s set up like a procedural: there’s...

Revolution, Season 2, Episode 9: “Everyone Says I Love You”
Written by Trey Callaway & Paul Grellong
Directed by Steve Boyum
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm (Et) on NBC
One of the golden rules in TV is that you can never really be sure someone’s dead if you’ve only heard about their demise. In Revolution, even that trope isn’t always surefire, since we’ve seen Aaron come back from the dead and Monroe reemerge from a buried casket after a heavy dose of drugs made him appear dead. So it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise to see that Julia is alive and well and (gasp!) remarried, in the belief that Neville was actually deceased himself. She managed to escape Atlanta long before the bombs dropped at the end of Season 1, and found a new husband to provide her with food, shelter, and security.

Revolution, Season 2, Episode 6: “Dead Man Walking”
Written by Trey Callaway & Paul Grellong
Directed by Steve Boyum
Airs Wednesdays at 8 pm (Et) on NBC
It was all looking so simple: Frame the Patriots for the Texan official’s death and Texas would take up arms against the U.S. Government. Monroe and Miles used their expertise to frame the Patriots and it all seemed so straightforward. Too easy, in fact. So when we find out the Patriots and Texans have joined forces it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise.
In an episode that tones down the action, we have a lot of developments, small and large, to keep things compelling. The big news is the apparent death of Monroe. Clearly a man with fewer friends than he can count on his fingers, and more enemies than he could shake a stick at, the Patriots and Texans capture and sentence him to death.

Revolution, Season 2, Episode 1: “Born in the U.S.A.”
Written by Eric Kripke
Directed by Steve Boyum
Airs Wednesdays at 8 pm (Et) on NBC
Revolution begins its second season in far more promising fashion than it ended its first. As the power ticked back on, the show’s central conceit seemed to evaporate. Thankfully, if we can take Aaron’s word for it, the power is now off for good, and the show is all the stronger for it. This was a completely necessary reset for the show: the Monroe Republic is no more, there’s no grand desire among the core group to restore power, and everyone’s getting back to pre-Surge reality without helicopters and armored cars causing carnage. Monroe’s a bare-knuckle boxer, Charlie seems to be finding herself, the Nevilles are searching for Julia, and everyone else is camped up in a remote Texas stronghold. It’s...

Revolution, Season 1, Episode 17: “The Longest Day”
Written by Anne Cofell Saunders
Directed by Steve Boyum
Airs Mondays at 10 pm (Et) on NBC
“The Longest Day” is about seeing a different side to some of our main characters. Rachel, Miles, and Tom all have moments when we saw a part of them we hadn’t really seen before.
There doesn’t seem much point in going back to see how much of an ass Miles was when he was with the Militia. He was a bad dude back then, and we’re well aware of that. As far as Rachel goes, her steely determination in allowing a boy to die without trying to help him in her single-minded quest for revenge opens up a new side of her. She can be ruthless when she is determined, and where Aaron wouldn’t leave her, she would him. It’s an interesting development,...

Written by Anne Cofell Saunders and Paul Grellong

Airs Mondays at 10 pm (Et) on NBC
Coming back from a four-month hiatus is not easy for any show, and is doubly difficult for a first-season show that has yet to develop a strong loyal following. The chances of people having lost interest in the ensuing months is high, as are the chances that viewers may have simply forgotten running storylines. Such is the dilemma Revolution faced upon its return this week; with the collision of the two primary storylines as Charlie and Miles caught up to Monroe’s camp and were reunited with Rachel and Danny, however, the show’s dynamic promised a change, and the closing moments, showing a helicopter lifting off for the first time in 15 years,...

Helicopter gunshot beats sword. Last we left the heroes of Eric Kripke’s “Revolution”, Miles, Charlie, et al were in the crosshairs of one of Monroe’s helicopter gunships, the product of Elizabeth Mitchell’s captivity. The first episode of the sci-fi show’s second half Season 1 picks up where the last episode left off. Yeah, I’m gonna go out on a limb and say the kids make it, and that final explosion at the end of the clip below didn’t really do them in. But hey, I’ve been wrong before. The episode, titled “The Stand”, is directed by Steve Boyum and returns March 25th. No word on an official synopsis yet, but remember that an earlier promo promises that there is a death coming on the show. I’m going out on a limb here, but I’m going to say it’s Daniella Alonso’s Nora.

Epis. 6 of "Revolution," "Sex and Drugs," had very little of either. This episode did, however, introduce a new character, Drexler. This minor villain made plans for Charlie (Tracy Spiridakos), Miles (Billy Burke) and Aaron (Zak Orth) difficult. Charlie showed some changes. She seems to be adapting to this new apocalyptic world through violence. Slowly fading is her innocence. However, Aaron was the star of this episode as seen in four flashbacks. His character is developed a little more before and after the blackout. All of this focus on characters created more depth, while this episode proved to be action-packed, as well. The story here partially focused on the estate of Drexler and the evil within.

Revolution, Season 1, Episode 6: “Sex and Drugs”
Written by David Rambo
Directed by Steve Boyum
Airs Mondays at 10 pm (Et) on NBC
While some people like to view what kind of scenarios would trigger an apocalypse and the collapse of civilization, others find the ensuing breakdown and re-adjustment of society, and how particular individuals react to their new circumstances, particularly compelling to watch. Revolution has not been hesitant in exposing, bit by bit, the types of people who have managed to survive, both physically and mentally in its universe, and this episode was no different, as the show took a look at another side of villainy, one not associated with the Monroe militia. The result, while lacking any progressions in the show’s major storylines, was nonetheless compelling.
The progression of the character of Charlie Matheson has been interesting to note through the series’ brief run. While other post-apocalyptic shows...

The premiere episode of "Revolution" was released this week. The episode is slated to rebroadcast September 17th and this sci-fi series has taken a bold first step with this premiere episode. Although bloodless, "Revolution" captures a post-apocalyptic landscape in an action packed fashion. Sci-fi and thriller fans will want to watch out for this series as the pilot was excellent. In the pilot, characters, settings and the main plot were developed. This episode focused on the Madison family. A patriarch is killed and his daughter is sent to muster his brother. The brother now lives in Chicago, which is a haven for refugees and militia. A family reunion takes place,...

When Human Target was renewed for a second season, it gained a new showrunner: Matt Miller. Miller (pictured here with series star Mark Valley at Comic-Con 2010), a veteran of NBC’s Chuck, has taken the reins of the show for its sophomore surge. He spoke to me exclusively on Thursday to discuss joining the series, how its second season is developing, and what fans can expect from his tenure.
How did you come into the showrunner position with Human Target? What was it like for you to come in and take the reins of an established series? What were some of the things you had to deal with?
I got a call from Warner Brothers, who had asked me to basically take a look at the first 12 episodes and see what I thought, then sit down and talk about what could possibly be revised. It was already a great show,...

You know what's going to happen on May 13, don't you? First, we're going to be treated to a recap to the tune of "Carry on Wayward Son" as Supernatural ends its fifth season. Second, I'm going to start tearing up during the episode. Right around the time this sneak peek actually starts. At this point I have to warn you that this sneak peek (and the first one we posted here) are pretty spoilery, so proceed at your own risk. And somehow try to resist crying, even though Kripke and the rest of the production staff wants to crush your freaking soul with this episode.

*Sob* This is it, Supernatural fans. The season 5 finale will be airing on May 13 and the CW has released promo photos and a synopsis for the episode. Are they spoilery? In a way. So proceed at your own risk.
So it looks like the boys will be meeting Lucifer face-to-face again. But what I really want to know is, what is Dean doing rocking the hand mojo? Does he get demon or angel powers? And which "beloved character" is killed? Because this show has systematically managed to kill off the majority of recurring characters. Since Padalecki and Ackles are both contracted for next season, I'm thinking either Cas or Bobby bites the dust. Both of those possibilities distress me greatly.
At least Kripke wrote the teleplay and we'll be treated to another "Then" with "Carry On, Wayward Son". Still won't make up for the fact that they may kill Bobby or Cas though.

Fans of the CW series Supernatural have been waiting for the inevitable "zombie" episode, and tonight's the night, my friends. Not only do we get zombies, we also get a look at a world in chaos in the year 2014.
In the episode entitled "The End" Sam (Jared Padalecki) tells Dean (Jensen Ackles) he wants to rejoin Dean in the battle of the Apocalypse, but Dean tells Sam that they are better off apart. Later, Dean awakens five years in the future in an abandoned city and is attacked by humans who have been infected with a demonic virus that turns humans into zombies. Zachariah (guest star Kurt Fuller) appears to Dean and explains that this is the world that exists as a result of Dean saying no to helping the angels fight Lucifer. Dean meets up with Future Dean, who tells him that the virus is the Devil's endgame for destroying mankind.

Last week we got a glimpse at a possible future for Sam, as Lucifer's permanent meat suit; next week, with Supernatural 5.04 "The End," we'll get a look at Dean's future – and perhaps the answer to whether or not Sam will ultimately give in to the fallen angel's demands. We have to intriguing clips ahead.
Dean has been sent on time trips before. Last season he went back in time and discovered that his awesome hunting genes may have come from his mommy's blood-line after-all. This week's time trip is courtesy of Zacharia, and is intended to show Dean the consequences of not giving his skin over to the Archangel Michael. Demon zombies. Yeah, you heard right. Demon zombies, and a pot smoking-womanizing Castiel. There is no hope. Could this dark future be true, or a crafty ploy by Zacharia intended to scare Dean into giving up his flesh? We don't have the answer to that,...

There will be two Dean Winchester in the upcoming episode of "Supernatural". The CW's thriller series will return to the small screen to present the older Winchester brother meeting his future self, who warns him that the demonic virus infecting humans is the Devil's endgame for destroying mankind.

Be careful, the demon zombie horde could be lurking around every corner. Supernatural goes zombie apocalypse in a couple of episodes with "The End," an episode that sends Dean on a trip into the future to meet himself, and Castiel … with a gun?
That's right, amongst other things we see the usually reserved and morose Castiel grinning widely with a bunch of well endowed babes. In subsequent shots, Castiel is stalking the streets with an automatic gripped tightly in his hands. Something tells me Castiel has been completely stripped of his Angel powers in the future – or Dean's attempt to get Castiel laid in this weeks episode had disastrous side effects.
Here is what CW says about "The End"

Its release calculated to coincide with the X Games, "Supercross: The Movie" is advertainment to the extreme.
Produced in association with Clear Channel Entertainment's Motor Sports division, which sponsors the Supercross bike-racing competition, the production attempts to dress up the corporate synergy in the guise of a fictionalized story of two racing brothers, but the resulting mix of ESPN-style visuals and WB Network-style dramatics never convincingly comes together.
Thanks to an eleventh-hour pruning that has left the film about 15 minutes shorter than its officially stated running time, any real sort of plotting or character development appears to have been left on the cutting-room floor along with all traces of Daryl Hannah's performance.
What's left is a lot of racing footage interspersed with a flimsy David vs. Goliath story which begs the question: Will its target audience willingly pay to see what they can watch on TV for free, minus the intrusive made-up bits?
Set in an odd, Southern California parallel universe where virtually everybody is Caucasian, the picture follows the intersecting paths taken by K.C. (Steve Howey) and Trip (Mike Vogel) Carlyle, a pair of brothers who run a pool-cleaning business but whose hearts are in Supercross.
The more disciplined of the two, K.C. ends up getting a flashy "factory" (corporate sponsored) ride, which drives a philosophical as well as a competitive wedge between the siblings. Trip ends up going the less glamorous, unsponsored "privateer" route, but fate ultimately intervenes, forcing these would-be rivals to put aside their difference and join forces to defeat the powerful bad guys.
Directed by stuntman-turned-filmmaker Steve Boyum, the vehicle dutifully goes along an uninspired path mapped out by screenwriters Ken Solarz and Bart Baker that still allows for earnest emoting from its young cast members. Joining Howey and Vogel are Cameron Richardson and Sophia Bush as the brothers' love interests, and the more seasoned Robert Carradine and Robert Patrick as the controlling corporate heavy and the noble independent spirit, who serve, for better or worse, as the boys' respective father figures.
Getting to the main event, filmed at the real-life Supercross finals in Las Vegas, the high-energy footage is competent but falls short of spectacular. Maybe it would have been a better idea to simply skip the fiction altogether and just show those real-life bikers doing their extreme thing, uninterrupted by cutaway close-ups of the actors pretending to be them.

Steve Howey and Mike Vogel are set for lead roles in the Steve Boyum-helmed actioner Supercross: The Movie alongside Daryl Hannah, Robert Patrick, Aaron Carter, Cameron Richardson, Ryan Locke, Sophia Bush, Robert Carradine and newcomers Channing Tatum, JD Pardo, Carolyn Garcia. TAG Entertainment is producing the project, which marks the indie outfit's largest production to date. 20th Century Fox is near acquiring domestic distribution rights to the film in a negative pickup. Penned by Ken Solarz, the motorcycle saga revolves around two brothers (Howey, Vogel) making their way into the world of competitive motorcycle racing. Hannah will play their mother.
In the tradition of Bill and Ted and Wayne and Garth, meet the Deedles, a pair of surfer dude teen twin gremmie brahs (that's loser brothers in Deedlespeak) who get a chance to make a name for themselves when they're mistaken for park ranger recruits.
Very much a live-action cartoon, "Meet the Deedles" is innocuous and often amusing Disney fare, armed with enough pratfalls and scatological asides to keep the kids happy.
Given the scarcity of appropriate PG product out there, the picture could catch a bit of a wave, particularly with boys.
Debuting feature director Steve Boyum keeps the pace cranked for this fish-out-of-water story, in which the fish in question are Phil (Paul Walker) and Stew Deedle Steve Van Wormer), surfin' siblings who are forced to leave their beloved Hawaiian home when their dad Elton (Eric Braeden) sends them off to Camp Break Spirit in Wyoming to toughen them up.
Through a series of inevitable mishaps, the Deedles instead find themselves in Yellowstone National Park (although they keep referring to it as "Jellystone"), where the chief park ranger, Captain Pine (John Ashton), believes them to be experts in handling a prairie dog invasion threatening to put a damper on celebrations for Old Faithful's one billionth birthday.
Little do our heroes know -- and that's about what they know -- the
p-dog invasion was orchestrated by one Frank Slater (Dennis Hopper), a deranged former ranger determined to get back at his former employers by rerouting the famed geyser into another part of the park and renaming it New Faithful.
But quicker than you can say "Ore-ida!" and "Nutrageous!" (two of the brothers' pet expressions), the Deedles foil Slater's plans and the geezer geyser gushes once more.
What Jim Herzfeld's script may lack in overall originality, it makes up for inventive dialogue and situations, wisely using the sheltered innocence of his lead characters as the source of much of the humor. Unfortunately, things begin to get bogged down toward the end during the inevitable good-vs.-evil finale.
As Phil and Stew, Walker and Van Wormer keep the loopy sweetness of their TV-damaged characters intact, while old pros Ashton and Hopper avoid the easy temptation to go over the top, given the film's cartoony structure. As Ashton's stepdaughter and resident Jellystone babe, A.J. Langer plays a blossoming former tomboy effectively.
Shot extensively near Park City, Utah, the flora and fauna have been brightly captured by cinematographer David Hennings, and Steve Bartek's score ripples with the necessary surf guitar twang.
