Charlie Wright’s casting as Rodrick Heffley in the fourth live-action Diary of a Wimpy Kid film sparked the #NotMyRodrick meme, which the actor claimed had “ruined my career”. In a video about the incident that was uploaded on YouTube and TikTok on Sunday, the actor addressed the harsh criticism he received after playing Rodrick Heffley in what is considered to be his first public statement.

This revelation has sparked outrage among fans, who are now calling for a much-needed change in the entertainment industry.

Aardman Animations is one of the most celebrated animation studios in the world and certainly the most celebrated stop-motion studio this side of Laika. Aardman's work has a unique and signature look and feel, which for many outside of Britain has become synonymous with British humor, particularly when it comes to the quaint, low-key vibe, and cartoonish tone of the "Shaun The Sheep" and "Wallace & Gromit" shorts and movies.
This year, the studio has already dived into the galaxy far, far away with a delightful short that brought Wes Antilles back into the story in "Star Wars: Visions." But before they deliver a brand new "Wallace & Gromit" movie in 2024, Aardman is looking back at their feature debut, "Chicken Run."
Both Aardman's most financially successful film and the highest-grossing stop-motion film of all time, "Chicken Run" is a wry homage to "The Great Escape" which sees a group of chickens escaping from a farm.

Director Sam Fell will bring his animated feature “Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget,” from Netflix and Aardman, to the View Conference in Turin, Italy, where it will have its Italian premiere. Fell will discuss the making of the film during the conference, which will run from Oct. 15-20.
Fell was nominated for an animated feature Academy Award, along with Chris Butler, for Laika’s 2012 stop-motion film “ParaNorman” and was nominated for a BAFTA Award alongside David Bowers for the animated film “Flushed Away,” from DreamWorks Animation and Aardman. “Dawn of the Nugget,” which features the voices of Thandiwe Newton, Zachary Levi and Bella Ramsey, is a sequel to the 2000 Aardman stop-motion feature “Chicken Run” and follows chicken freedom fighters Ginger and Rocky as they raise their daughter Molly.

The fourth Diary Of A Wimpy Kid movie arrives in the UK this weekend. Well, we liked it...
Where possible, I try and write a review of a film without having seen anyone else’s opinions of it first. I’ve got plenty of time afterwards to assess just how wrong I am in the eyes of the world.
Last weekend, then, rather than attend a press show, I took my children of varying ages (which tends to be how children work) to the new Wimpy Kid film, The Long Haul. I’ve enjoyed the first three, and particular applaud the quite brilliantly cast company of young performers. But young performers grow old and so, five years after Diary Of A Wimpy Kid 3, The Long Haul arrives with the same director (David Bowery), author Jeff Kinney still heavily involved, but a totally new cast.

A fourth big-screen outing for the amiable family franchise features a new cast but it’s run out of fun
Faced with ageing or refusenik performers, the amiable family franchise’s fourth big-screen outing elects for ruthless, root-and-branch recasting. Alicia Silverstone and Tom Everett Scott are new and 33% blander as the Heffley elders, while Jason Drucker succeeds Zachary Gordon as eponymous weakling Greg, here caught plotting to reroute the clan’s road trip towards a much-anticipated gaming expo. Returning director David Bowers gives it sporadic pep: there’s a fun Psycho homage, and CGI projectile vomit. Elsewhere the books’ stick-figure illustrations get converted into banal, overlit, primetime sitcom images, and the endless off-route wheelspinning makes that subtitle lamentably apt. For once, it’ll be the grownups asking the kids: “Are we there yet?”

Here is the one and possibly only way that the middle school comedy Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul keeps the faith for hardcore cineastes: It is a theatrical release. This may not seem like a major plus; to parents tasked with escorting a group of tweens to a theater to watch this particular movie, it may seem downright irksome. But give the Wimpy Kid series some credit. Its fourth movie, appearing after a five-year break and a full recast to keep the characters the same ages, seems like a prime opportunity for a retreat into the direct-to-dvd zone or perhaps a regroup as a streaming TV series. Instead, director and co-writer David Bowers remains to make sure that young Wimpy Kid fans can experience the modest, few-frills enchantment of seeing their favorite characters (and also protagonist Greg Heffley) come to life on a moderate-sized multiplex screen.

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, and to paraphrase those renowned seventies scholars the Brady Bunch, “When it’s time to change then it’s time to change.”
While I’ve tried my hardest to slowly sneak those changes in, it’s gotten to the point where we’ll need to do something more drastic if the few of you reading the Weekend Warrior on a weekly basis actually want it to remain coming to you on a weekly basis. Because of that, we’re going to try something different by not throwing in as much independent limited releases for those checking the column out, and making the column a little more focused at least for the time being. "There's a new hero who dares to be... wimpy." Fox has debuted the official theatrical trailer for the latest sequel in the comedy series Diary of a Wimpy Kid, this one subtitled The Long Haul, about a family road trip. This is the fourth movie in the cinematic franchise based on the series of books by Jeff Kinney. Young actor Jason Drucker plays Greg, who convinces his family to take a road trip to attend his great grandmother's 90th birthday as a cover for what he really wants: to attend a nearby gamer convention. The cast includes Jason Ian Drucker, Charlie Wright, Owen Asztalos, Tom Everett Scott, and Alicia Silverstone. Surprisingly, this trailer is better than the teaser trailer but cuts out all the gaming convention footage. This actually looks like it might be an enjoyable road trip comedy, but I'm still not going to watch it. Here's the second...

Jason Ian Drucker ("Every Witch Way") and Owen Asztalos ("Paterson") have been cast as the young leads of a reboot of "The Diary of a Wimpy Kid" franchise in the works at Fox and Color Force.
David Bowers, who helmed two of the three previous live-action films which ran from 2010 to 2012, is returning to direct the new feature based on Jeff Kinney's series of books - more specifically the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul" title.
Drucker will replace Zachary Gordon as the main character Greg Heffley who convinces his family to embark on a summer road trip to attend Meemaw's 90th birthday - so he can secretly attend what he thinks is a nearby gamer convention. But the diversion takes them wildly off course, and Greg must figure out how to get his family back on track.

Justin Malen, who penned the upcoming "Baywatch" film, will adapt the script from the 75-book strong series created by Norman Bridwell in 1963. The story follows the 25-foot-tall canine and his owner, the young Emily Elizabeth, and their misadventures together.
The books were previously adapted into a video series in the 1980s, two television series, and a 2004 animated film. David Bowers ("Astro Boy") was attached to helm this film when it was previously setup at Universal Pictures.

From Flushed Away and Hunchback to Titan A.E. and Sky High - the family movies that don't get the love they deserve...
When I sit through a film such as Zootropolis, Rango, Frozen, Wreck-It Ralph, Eddie The Eagle or Coraline, I can’t help but be thankful somebody has bothered. Norman Bridwell, creator of the beloved children’s book character Clifford the Big Red Dog, has died. He was 86. Scholastic Trade Book Publishing said the author and illustrator died Friday on Martha’s Vineyard.
“Norman Bridwell’s books about Clifford, childhood’s most loveable dog, could only have been written by a gentle man with a great sense of humor,” Scholastic chief Dick Robinson said. “Norman personified the values that we as parents and educators hope to communicate to our children – kindness, compassion, helpfulness, gratitude – through the Clifford stories which have been loved for more than 50 years.”
Bridwell created Clifford in 1963 and went on to publish more than 150 Clifford titles, which have sold a combined 129 million copies and been translated into 13 languages. The stories follow the adventures of Clifford, who is loved so much as a puppy by his young owner Emily Elizabeth — named after Bridwell’s daughter — that he...

As Universal powers full steam ahead with its plans to relaunch its library of classic movie monsters, red-hot writer Jay Basu (Monsters: Dark Continent) has become the latest scribe to join a brain trust being set up to mastermind the studio’s ambitious endeavor. It’s unclear which entry in Universal Monsters Basu will be personally heading up (if any), but his feedback will be incorporated into all projects under the banner.
Super-producers Alex Kurtzman (Transformers, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Chris Morgan (the Fast & Furious franchise) are serving as the architects of Universal Monsters, which will expand and join together a network of classic monsters. So far, Universal has also recruited Fargo scribe/creator Noah Hawley, Prisoners screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski and Now You See Me scribe Ed Solomon to help with the effort. Out of those writers, only Guzikowski has been tasked with a specific script – for The Wolfman.

Unrepped writer Richard Galazka’s romantic comedy Matinee Idol and Malachi Smyth’s Gateway 6 topped the annual Brit List of best unproduced screenplays. Both projects received nine votes. The list is compiled by UK producers, agents, distributors and sales companies, who aren’t allowed to vote for their own projects. Other qualifying criteria include receiving a minimum of three votes and not having featured on previous Brit Lists.
Previous films to appear on the Brit List include The King’s Speech, Welcome To The Punch, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and most recently The Riot Club.

Another beloved childhood character is heading to the big screen. Universal recently announced that an adaptation of Clifford the Big Red Dog, based on the children’s book series by Norman Bridwell, will be hitting theaters on April 8th, 2016.
Plot details for the film are scarce, but Bridwell’s series centered on a dog named Clifford, born the runt of the litter. When he was given to Emily Elizabeth as a birthday present, the little girl’s love for him caused Clifford to swell in size to a height of over 25 feet. Given the dog’s size, his owner’s family had no choice but to move to the wide open spaces of Bridwell Island, where Clifford encountered new friends like Cleo, Mac and T-Bone. Over 70 installments of the book series, which also spawned a popular PBS Kids TV show, have been released.

David Bowers is in talks to direct “Clifford the Big Red Dog,” an upcoming film based on the classic children’s book first published 50 years ago, according to Universal Pictures. Universal is moving forward with the project without Illumination Entertainment, the studio’s in-house animation company, which was producing the project but has dropped off. Illumination has been Universal’s sole supplier of animated films since 2010, making “Hop,” “The Lorax” and the “Despicable Me” franchise. Yet “Clifford” will be a hybrid like “Hop,” in which the lapine protagonist is animated but other characters are live-action. Also read: Universal’s Turnaround...

On Thursday evening at the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Beverly Hills, the Academy invited movie fans to join in the celebration of the work of this year’s Oscar nominees in the Animated Feature Film category. Although not pictured above, director Tim Burton was on hand for the panel discussion hosted by actor Rob Riggle (Hotel Transylvania, Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax).
The nominees discussed how their films were developed, talked about their creative processes, and presented clips illustrating their techniques. All were adamant in saying that animated films are not cartoons and that there is place for both stop-motion and CGI in the genre.
The Animated Feature Film nominees are:
Brave
Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman
This is the second nomination for Mark Andrews and the first in this category. He made his feature directorial debut with Brave.
After interning at Disney, Andrews worked as a story-board artist on several films.

Chicago – Most former kids can agree that junior high is pure hell. It’s the dividing line between the carefree bliss of elementary school and the budding maturity of high school. Suddenly kids are faced with a decision: either assert their dominance over the weakest of their peers or risk joining them. Become a bully or be bullied. Neither option is enticing.
Jeff Kinney’s “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” book series connected with young readers who related to its awkward protagonist, Greg Heffley, whose misadventures were conveyed through a cheerful amalgamation of journal entries, illustrations and comics. The film adaptations, however, have been more interested in capturing Kinney’s broadly comic sensibility rather than his nuggets of truth. Instead of illuminating the humanity within Kinney’s caricatures, the films exploit their quirks in nauseatingly cynical fashion.

Chicago – The month of August contain the “dog days” of summer, when the season lumbers to a hazy and hot conclusion. How appropriate that the third film of a popular series would be called ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days,’ because like summer’s end it feels lethargic. Zachary Gordon, Robert Capron and Steve Zahn star.
Rating: 2.5/5.0
This installment of the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series has a couple of distinctions – Zachary Gordon, who portrays the title character, has hit puberty, with a deeper voice and seemingly less energy to tackle wimpy Greg. Secondly, the emergence of background characters in telling the story. Greg’s Dad and brother are more importantly featured than best friend Rowley, contrary to the first two films. This all adds up to less enthusiastic “Diary,” which meanders without any spark, a contractual obligation rather than a beloved adaptation from the popular books.

Ted (15)
(Seth MacFarlane, 2012, Us) Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Seth MacFarlane, Joe McHale, Giovanni Ribisi. 106 mins
Those unconvinced by MacFarlane's Family Guy cartoon series will be even less convinced by his first feature – basically a routine manchild/bromance story with one novel idea: Wahlberg has a magic talking teddy, which has grown up into an obnoxious party animal – thus creating relationship issues with shrewish girlfriend Kunis. It's all gags and no comedy. And if you're anything other than white, male and pop culture-literate, you'll find the humour at best patchy, at worst, downright nasty.
Sound Of My Voice (15)
(Zal Batmanglij, 2011, Us) Christopher Denham, Nicole Vicius, Brit Marling. 85 mins
As with Another Earth, co-writer Marling takes an unorthodox line through a familiar genre here. This time she's a spacey/scary cult leader who claims to be from the year 2054. A couple of investigative journalists get out of their depth taking her on.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days
Directed by: David Bowers
Cast: Zachary Gordon, Robert Capron, Devon Bostick, Steve Zahn, Rachael Harris
Running Time: 1 hr 34 mins
Rating: PG
Release Date: August 3, 2012
Plot: School is out and Greg (Gordon) and wants to play video games all summer. When his dad (Zahn) wants him to get motivated, Greg creates a series of lies.
Who’S It For? Do you have a kid who has trouble listening? Are you a lazy parent looking for any sort of entertainment to do the parenting for you? You’ve found your trilogy!
Overall
For as long as I can remember (the last three years), I’ve had one night ruined because of these Wimpy movies. The main problem with the films is that it has nothing to do with looking or feeling wimpy. Gordon once again plays Greg Heffley as an arrogant, selfish, lying, bratty kid.

- The Scorecard Review
This third film adapted from Jeff Kinney’s illustrated sagas charting the adolescent woes of oh-so-wimpy middle schooler Greg Heffley (Zachary Gordon) is easily the weakest of this series so far. The first two films were episodic and lightweight, but within their loose narrative structure was an exploration of the frustrating, frequently stressful middle school experience that rang mostly true. The earlier films had bouncy energy and some surreal touches but Diary Of A Wimpy Kid Dog Days is cheap and poorly written. In this installment, school is out for the summer and Greg has a crush on his cute classmate Holly (Peyton List) so he pretends to hold a job at her country club in order to win her over (and to avoid having to spend time with his dad). The usual dreary slapstick embarrassments ensue.
