French pay-tv group Canal+ and Italian public broadcaster Rai have picked up Audrey’s Back, the Quebecois dramedy about a coma victim’s return to life that won the Grand Prix at this year’s Canneseries festival.
Germany’s Beta Film, which is handling international sales on the show, closed deals with Canal+ and Rai, with future deals in the works. Beta launched Audrey’s Back at the MIPTV market earlier this year.
Florence Longpré, who co-wrote the 10-part series, stars as the titular Audrey, a coma patient, put into hospital following an accident on prom night, who suddenly wakes up after a decade and a half and slowly returns to life, learning to talk, to walk and to remember the person she was before. Co-creator Guillaume Lambert calls Audrey’s Back a typical coming-of-age story “just 15 years too late.”

Israeli series “The Lesson,” a taut half-hour series parable on the vicious spiral of social media confrontation, took top honors on Wednesday night at a spirited 2022 Canneseries festival whose main competition was buoyed by titles from some of the boldest players in the business.
With “The Lesson” co-lead, the extraordinary Maya Landsmann, walking off with best performance for her nuanced turn as a super-sized troubled teen who goads her liberal teacher into a personal attack on her physical appearance – a put-down which goes viral – the series can rate as the big winner at this year’s event.
Produced by Yochanan Kredo at Jasmine TV for Israeli broadcaster Kan 11 – and scoring huge numbers when aired on the network – the show, written by Deakla Keydar and directed by Eitan Zur (“Asylum City”), also exemplifies the virtues of much best Israeli TV drama: Taut, pointed writing, great acting, direction which serves the drama,...

- Perhaps one of Quebec’s top dramatic actors, Luc Picard’s went behind the camera for his directorial debut. The drama with flourishes of comedic elements is about getting out of one type of business without ever being able to leave it. L'audition received its red-carpet last night. From (L), Alexis Martin, Suzanne Clément, Luc Picard and Denis Bouchard (R). Actor/director: Luc Picard Actress: Suzanne Clément The only Canadian film in the competition, this sees Louis, 40 years old, is a bit of a braggart who has long nurtured a childhood dream: to become an actor. Thanks to a cousin of his, he is asked to audition for a somewhat unusual part: a father videotaping a final message for his son. Louis rehearses the scene in secret, and doesn't even tell his girlfriend Suzie what he's up to. Suzie also has a secret of her own: she is pregnant with Louis' child.
