One of Elvis Presley’s songs from the 1960s reached No. 2 because of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons’ song has the same name as a famous tune from the 2000s. Elvis’ hit was co-written by a famous songwriter.

Jerry Lee Lewis, whose hammering boogie-woogie piano, unleashed-tomcat voice, and unapologetic bad-boy persona made him an architect of rock & roll and an early rival of Elvis Presley, has died. Lewis’ publicist confirmed his death to Rolling Stone, but a cause of death was not immediately available; he was 87.
Lewis died at his home in Desoto County, Mississippi, with his seventh wife, Judith Coghlan, by his side.

Priscilla Presley has addressed some of the alleged history of ex-husband Elvis Presley that was arguably left out of summer blockbuster “Elvis.”
The Baz Luhrmann-directed film presents Elvis (Austin Butler) as the embodiment of mid-20th century America, showing him as being deeply moved by the Civil Rights Movement and Martin Luther King Jr.’s death. That goes against a popular narrative that he was racist, something immortalized in Public Enemy’s song “Fight the Power.” In a new interview with “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” Priscilla discussed Elvis’ relationships with musicians of color.
“Per the movie, [for] a long time it was stated that Elvis was a racist,” Priscilla explained. “He was not a racist. He had never been a racist. He had friends, Black friends, friends from all over. He loved their music, he loved their style. He loved being around Black musicians.”
Priscilla cited Elvis’ friendships with Fats Domino...

Norma Bengell dead at 78: Iconic (and controversial) Brazilian film, stage, television, and recording star made history as the first actress to be seen naked (full frontal) in a mainstream film (photo: Norma Bengell and John Herbert in ‘As Cariocas’) Norma Bengell, a sort of Brazilian Jeanne Moreau, Brigitte Bardot, and Jane Fonda rolled into one, died of lung cancer in her hometown of Rio de Janeiro on October 9, 2013. She was 78. Best known internationally for her leading-lady roles in several Italian-made cult classics of the mid-’60s, Norma Bengell was known in Brazil as a controversial show business veteran and for being the first “name” actress (purportedly anywhere in the world) to be seen fully naked — full frontal — in a mainstream film. Note: Hedy Lamarr, then billed as Hedy Kiesler, does swim and run around in the nude in Gustav Machaty’s 1933 Czech drama Ecstasy. However, Lamarr’s naked swimming was disguised by the water,...

New York — It opened with a Phish show, nearly exploded into a (very well-heeled) proto-punk riot, got giddy on a fix of sunshiny Swedish pop, and finally wrapped up with a '50's-tinged tribute. It was the 25th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, back in NYC after a one-year sojourn in Cleveland (where the titular hall actually exists). And while it may have been lacking the star power of previous years' ceremonies — Eminem and Metallica in 2009, Madonna and Justin Timberlake in '08 — it certainly showcased the breadth and depth of this thing we call rock music.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2010 runs the gamut from the progenitors of bloody-knuckle punk rock, the Stooges, to the group that made candy-colored disco sing-alongs a worldwide obsession, Abba.
According to Rolling Stone, the Detroit-bred architects of "Raw Power" and the Swedish pop tarts are among a group of inductees that also includes long-running prog-rock-turned-radio-pop group Genesis, reggae icon Jimmy Cliff and 1960s English rock group the Hollies.
The 25th annual induction ceremony will return to New York's Waldorf Astoria on March 15, 2010, after taking a detour to Cleveland — home of the actual Hall of Fame building — for last year's ceremony, which enshrined Metallica, Run-dmc and Jeff Beck. The induction of the Stooges will end a long journey for Iggy Pop's band,...
