‘Private Lives of Pippa Lee’ with Robin Wright Penn - MovieSet Spotlight

18 September 2009 2:45 PM, PDT | MovieSet.com | See recent MovieSet.com news »

MovieSet Spotlight Top-notch ensemble cast led by Robin Wright Penn and Alan Arkin in a relationship-based drama co-produced by Brad Pitt. ‘The Private Lives of Pippa Lee‘ is in theaters November 27th, 2009 and features Keanu Reeves, Maria Bello, Winona Ryder and Blake Lively.

Synopsis At fifty, Pippa Lee positively glows with female serenity, the devoted wife of a brilliant publisher thirty years her senior, proud mother of successful twins and a lovely and adored friend and neighbor. But, when her husband spontaneously decides that they should leave New York for a retirement home as a “pre-emptive strike against decrepitude,” and has an affair with someone even younger than she is, Pippa finds her beatific persona unraveling in alarming ways. The truth is, the gracious woman of the present day has seen more than her fair share of the wild side. She has finally found love and security in a family of her own. »

Brand New “Private Lives of Pippa Lee” Poster

22 August 2009 1:34 PM, PDT | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

Check out a brand new poster for Rebecca Miller’s movie “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee” screened at the 59th Berlin International Film Festival as one of the out of competition films. The movie is adapted from writer-director Rebecca Miller’s novel of the same name.

From all outward appearances, Pippa Lee (Robin Wright Penn) leads a charmed existence. She is the devoted wife of an accomplished publisher (Alan Arkin) thirty years her senior, the proud mother of two grown children, and a trusted friend and confidant to all who cross her path. But as Pippa dutifully follows her husband to a new life in a staid Connecticut retirement community, her idyllic world and the persona she has built over the course of her marriage will be put to the ultimate test.

In truth, looks are deceiving, and this picture-perfect woman has seen more than her fair share of turmoil in her youth. »

The Vacation Read: Derrick, Mike Binder, my web nerd homies, and Jason Flemyng

11 June 2009 9:59 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Yes, I unironically used the word homies in that headline.  Deal with it. I can't say this has been the greatest of vacations.  It certainly wasn't the one I had planned.  But I did get to spend a great deal of time with my family, so nothing else really matters.  One thing that has been a pleasant surprise has been the enthusiastic reaction so many of you have had to the Vacation Read that's been up while I was gone.  In the future, any time I'm on vacation, I will plan one of these in advance, because it's turned out to... »

Salma Hayek Leads New Trio Headed for Sandler's Reunion Comedy

18 March 2009 5:45 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

I love movies about reunions. The comedy and underlying drama of The Big Chill warms me, and every once in a while, I get an urge to delight in summer camp with Mike Binder's Indian Summer. Films like these outline, so wonderfully, the ways we change and stay the same, and just how hard it can be to relate to those we've known forever in a way that's entertaining rather than sickeningly sappy.

But I'm getting the sense that this won't happen with Adam Sandler's reunion comedy. Last month, Erik shared news that director Dennis Dugan (Zohan) was going to lead Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, and David Spade in the story of five best friends from high school who reunite after 30 years on the Fourth of July weekend. Now Variety reports that Salma Hayek, Maya Rudolph, and Colin Quinn are joining the reunion.

What Films Top Your List of Movies that Didn't Receive Any Oscar Nominations?

3 February 2009 2:41 AM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Scott Feinberg at The Envelope has created a list of his "The top 25 movies of the past 10 years that got no Oscar love" and it's an interesting idea considering there has been so much hatred aimed at the Academy over The Dark Knight not getting a Best Picture nomination, but it did actually receive eight nominations, which is nothing to scoff at. We are talking about films that didn't receive any nominations, zero, zilch, nada. Any come to mind? I had never considered the idea since it is a relatively hard thing to imagine that a favorite film of yours didn't receive any Oscar nominations -- wait, is that why general audiences aren't interested in the Oscars? -- but then I went back over my 2003-2008 Top Ten lists and found several that weren't nominated and put together a quick top ten and an example category I think they should have been nominated in. »
