Roadside Attractions has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Free Turn’s “Gigi & Nate.” The film stars Charlie Rowe, Oscar-winner Marcia Gay Harden, and Jim Belushi, and is based on true events. It tells the story of Nate Gibson, a young man whose life is turned upside down after he suffers a near-fatal illness and is left a quadriplegic.
And “Gigi & Nate” also serves as the introduction to a pint-sized, though still formidable, new talent. Making her big-screen debut in the titular role of service animal “Gigi” is Allie, an adorable capuchin monkey. In the movie, Gigi is trained to assist Nate with his basic needs and helps him rediscover his sense of hope. Look for audiences to fall in love with Allie/Gigi when Roadside Attractions releases the film exclusively in theaters on Sept. 2, 2022.

Bleecker Street has won domestic rights to “Military Wives,” a feel-good comedy with Kristin Scott Thomas, Variety has confirmed.
The pact is one of the first to emerge from a slow market at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. “The Full Monty” filmmaker Peter Cattaneo directed “Military Wives,” the true story of a group of women who form a choir while their husbands are serving in Afghanistan. What starts as a diversion to distract themselves from negative thoughts about their spouses soon propels them to the center of a media frenzy and global movement.
In her review for Variety, Amy Nicholson called the film a “ballad to female unity,” adding, “though their husbands are on a dangerous six-month deployment, the women of this charmer about a camp choir find a reason to sing.”

Exclusive: Bleecker Street is at the altar for U.S. rights to the Toronto Film Festival acquisitions title Military Wives, the Peter Cattaneo-directed film that stars Kristin Scott Thomas, Sharon Horgan and Jason Flemyng. Cattaneo is best known for The Full Monty, and this one also has a feel-good element to it. Pic tells the true story of a band of women who form a choir on a military base while their partners are away serving in Afghanistan. What starts as a diversion becomes more than that, and the unexpected bonds of friendship between the women transform their lives and help overcome their fears for loved ones in combat.
Several distributors circled the picture, which will get a proper theatrical release after a slew of festival trade reviews said it deserved one. The deal will be a shot in the arm for a festival whose acquisitions marketplace has been off to a slow start.

Behind-the-scenes featurettes have long enumerated the many obstacles any movie or TV show has had to overcome to reach the theater or TV screen. But few films faced hardships as severe as those overcome by “Driven,” the real-life hero-to-zero story of automaker John DeLorean (played by Lee Pace) and his misadventures with ex-con pilot-turned-FBI informant Jim Hoffman (Jason Sudeikis). Directed by Nick Hamm, “Driven” was in its first days of principal photography in Puerto Rico in September 2017 when Hurricane Maria was bearing down on the island.
Line producer René Besson grew up in South Florida and has survived a few hurricanes in his day, even getting the Jason Statham action vehicle “Homefront” through 2012’s Hurricane Isaac in Louisiana. Familiar with the trajectories of weather patterns, he was closely watching Maria’s progress the night before landfall on the Caribbean isle.

Exclusive: Robbie Williams and regular song-writing collaborator Guy Chambers, known for their partnership on hit singles including Angels, Let Me Entertain You and Millenium, are to provide an original song for UK comedy-drama Military Wives, starring Kristin Scott Thomas and Catastrophe‘s Sharon Horgan.
Peter Cattaneo’s (The Full Monty) upcoming film, inspired by the hit BBC documentary series, The Choir: Military Wives, tells the story of a group of women, separated from their loved ones serving in the armed forces, who form a choir at their army base. Pic is currently in post-production.
Bringing aboard Williams, the best-selling British solo artist ever in the UK, is quite a coup for the production. I gather the singer was approached by producers via music supervisor Liz Gallacher and he quickly sparked to the material. It’s not clear at this stage whether Williams will also sing the song.

It was a bit of a surprise when Joel Schumacher’s upcoming thriller was announced as part of Toronto International Film Festival 2011 slate. The Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman-starrer was thought to be getting a shoddy theatrical release and a VOD debut, but it now looks like it will get an official bow. We have our first trailer via Yahoo and it looks like something that may have been decent in Cage’s ’90s glory but in today’s age it seems entirely cliche. I’m not sure what Kidman saw in a project like this one and after Schumacher’s recent disaster Twelve, this one stirs very little interest. Check out the trailer below for the film also starring Ben Mendelsohn, Cam Gigandet and Liana Liberato.
