Castle creator Andrew W. Marlowe admits it wasn’t easy putting a bullet into Detective Kate Beckett in the Season 3 finale. But what doesn’t kill the NYPD cop will only make the show stronger.
“It was a pretty tough decision to shoot her — and to have Captain Montgomery take that [fatal] bullet,” Marlowe told TVLine during our visit to the hit ABC drama’s set on Tuesday. “But we wanted to show growth, and that’s a challenge for any show when you’re working within a pretty good comfort zone.”

Castle (TV) fans everywhere were most likely squealing at their TV's last night. Me included. Single-handedly, this show handed the "Quick! H ide behind my Lips!" trope better than anyone in the history of television. But who the hell cares about the tope, because we Finally get the Beckett/Castle kiss! And it's no dream, hallucination, or alternate universe scam! John Reglan (Joel Polis) is toying with the idea of blowing his head off, while cleaning his gun. Cheery. He's the former lead investigator on Joanna Beckett's murder case. He calls Beckett (Stana Katic) and wants to meet. Beckett invites Castle (Nathan Fillion) to come along. We know from flashback that Beckett found the guy, Coonan, who actually shot her mother, but was forced to kill him before she could find out who put the hit out on her mom. Reglan tells her that he's dying of cancer, and 19 years ago,...

It’s not about the books anymore.
The latest installment of Castle managed to carry a serious tone for an entire hour and still hit it out of the park. Although the show is primarily known for its wild antics and off-the-wall story lines, “Knockdown” was just what this show needed.
Beckett had a chance to learn more about her mother’s murder and got that much closer to the person who ordered the hit. We saw the main characters showing some real emotion and finally made some headway with Castle and Beckett.
Having the case focus on Joanna Beckett made it personal for all of our favorite detectives. Ryan and Esposito knew they needed to find answers, Captain knew he had to keep Kate at a distance from it, Castle knew he needed to be their for his partner and Beckett knew who to turn to when she needed someone to trust.

While storyline on Castle can also veer from the ridiculous to the realistic, the ABC hit will focus on the personal this winter.
Producer Andrew Marlowe tells TV Guide his show will return to the issue of Beckett's murdered mother in January.
"There will be some closure; we'll have some understanding as to exactly why Joanna Beckett was killed," Marlowe says. "The audience will find out how high the conspiracy goes and the elements that we're dealing with. I think it can provide us with an interesting insight into [future] storytelling."
And where will fans find in-depth coverage on these episodes of Castle? TV Fanatic, of course!
