- Pierre Balmain was born on May 17, 1914 in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, France. He was a costume designer, known for Alerte au sud (1953), Riff Raff Girls (1959) and Paris Holiday (1958). He died on June 29, 1982 in Paris, France.
- French couturier and creator of perfumes, founder of the fashion house Balmain. He designed personal wardrobes for numerous international stars, including Brigitte Bardot, Marlene Dietrich, and Katherine Hepburn. Queen Sirikit of Thailand also chose him as her personal couturier.
- Published his autobiography, "My Years and Seasons" in London in 1964 and New York in 1965.
- In 1955 he won the Neiman-Marcus fashion award.
- Designed the costumes for 'Katherine Hepburn' in the stage production of "The Millionairess"
- Was nominated for Broadway's 1980 Tony Award as Best Costume Designer for "Happy New Year."
