Justin Hartley’s first big project released post-This Is Us will be Netflix’s The Noel Diary, a drama set around the holidays and based on the novel by Richard Paul Evans. Today, Netflix released the first photo featuring Justin Hartley and a canine co-star. The streaming service also announced they’ve set a November 24, 2022 premiere date.
Director Charles Shyer adapted the novel with Rebecca Connor and David Golden.
“I wanted to adapt this novel for a few different reasons. The story of The Noel Diary felt to me like one that could comfortably embrace humor and humanity – while at the same time offer great visual and directorial possibilities. A movie that, as Billy Wilder once said, ‘Could make ’em laugh and make ’em cry.’ I chose to cast Justin Hartley from his work on This Is Us.

As you’ll see in the preview clip below, there aren’t a lot of angles Henry can hope to twist around the truth when he’s caught holding a murder weapon in his own basement. Once he decides there’s no avoiding the truth, or at least some truth, it’s hard to figure out how he’s going to put a good spin on the fact that the murder weapon is his. And, that’s just a small piece of what’s in store on the next episode of Forever, “Skinny Dipper,” airing December 9th.
Easily one of the best new shows of the season, what Forever has done best, in my opinion, is balance the long arc of the show. We may now be in an era which demands that no show can simply be a procedural and run on episodic content, but this one has managed...

It’s that time again, and the Fall TV schedule is packed this year. It somehow seems that there aren’t as many new shows hitting, but there are some big ones.
On the other hand, that’s a good sign for the popularity of returning shows, even if some of them may be pushing their luck at this point. Sticking with shows that work is great, but at some point we’re milking things, and don’t actually have fresh ideas to work into the routine. I’m oddly curious to see how some of these long-running series perform, especially with the cable networks throwing out a lot of great shows.
At any rate, there’s a lot going on, so let’s just jump into the mix.
Links in the schedule are to reviews, and this page will be updated as reviews become available. New shows are in blue.

The Mysteries of Laura Review
The aftermath of a long-running show isn’t an impossible hurdle to overcome, but it’s a tricky one, and Debra Messing is about due for another success.
Unfortunately, the best case scenario for The Mysteries of Laura involves a large enough demographic that is looking for a mix of soap opera and crime drama that leans heavily into the guilty pleasure realm. That might not actually give a fair account of the show, especially because a certain number of series that are on the air now, and doing quite well, could be thought to fall into that realm themselves. The Mysteries of Laura demands we go further than we’re used to, even in thinking of a television show as being a certain kind of ridiculous, and in this case what we’re looking for is akin to Scooby Doo showing up in a modern-setting romance novel.

Chicago – If you’re gonna cut loose, “Footloose,” it is best to do what the production team and cast did in cutting this remake of the 1980s kitschy classic – pay deep homage to the source and modify it with a energetic and contemporary spin on the dance floor.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
This “Footloose” has a spark of its own, due to the guidance of veteran director Craig Brewer (”Hustle and Flow,” “Black Snake Moan”). He creates a Footloose universe that absorbs the dimensions of the previous film, and steers the young cast to take all of it seriously enough to find their own way through the story. Although suffering from a few soft spots in the middle, “Footloose’ brims with enough frenetic dancing, friendship and real emotion to make a case that this is the better version.
The film begins with the crackling and familiar strains of the song “Footloose,” the 1980s classic by Kenny Loggins,...
